Rare 1920s Hong Kong School gouache on board - The First World War British Submarine H.M.S. L4 , titled 'H.M.Submarine L.4. China Station 1919,1920', in modern grey painted frame, 51 x 66.5cm overall. NB: H.M.S. L4 was built by Vickers, Barrow, in June 1916, she was commissioned in December 1918 and departed for Hong Kong in 1919 arriving in January 1920 as part of the fourth Submarine Flotilla. On 20th October 1927 she engaged a pirate ship with her deck gun and rescued the crew of a British merchant ship the S.S. Irene who were the subject of the Pirate attack. She was sold by the Navy in 1934 and scrapped at Charleston, Fife.

JOHN WHISCOMBE, ENGLAND AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE .22 UNDER-LEVER TWIN-PISTON RECOILLESS AIR-RIFLE, MODEL 'JW70 MKII DELUXE', serial no. 019, one of only two fully engraved JW70 models produced circa 2000 with blued, shrouded 21 3/4in. barrel deeply engraved with knurled bands and open American style scrollwork, fully scroll engraved side-lever receiver, scroll engraved double air-chamber with central panel signed 'WHISCOMBE JW70 MKII, SERIAL NO. 019 MADE IN ENGLAND', highly figured right hand walnut thumb-hole half-stock with stippled grip-panels, adjustable comb and rubber recoil-pad, concealed flush-fitting scroll engraved under-lever, the whole appearing very little used and fitted with a leather sling in 'Q/D swivels and a 4x32 telescopic sight in en-suite engraved mounts, in a padded bag.
