* Jazz. Rare 45rpm promotional single by The Mike Westbrook Concert Band with Norma Winstone, featuring a superior re-recording of "Original Peter" on the A-side and "Magic Garden" on the B-side, Deram DM 311, original Deram sleeve, release date of 21 August 1970 announced on the label, matrices DR-47516-T1-1C / DR-47715-T1-1C, together with another rare 45rpm promotional single by The Mike Westbrook Concert Band, featuring "A Life Of It's Own" on the A-side and "Can't Get It Out Of My Mind" on the B-side , Deram DM 234, original Deram sleeve, release date 14 February 1969 on the label, matrices DR-44336-T1-1C / DR-44337-T1-1C (Qty: 2)NOTESJazz composer and pianist Mike Westbrook OBE began his first bands in 1958 and was soon joined by such musicians as John Surman, Lou Gare and Keith Rowe. After moving to London in 1962, he led numerous bands, large and small. In 1967 he moved into the live pop circuit with his ‘Concert Band’. The band would vary wildly in size, although regulars included saxophonist Mike Osborne, bassist Harry Miller and vocalist Norma Winstone. Signed to Decca’s ‘progressive’ imprint Deram, and therefore rubbing shoulders with artists such as Cat Stevens, David Bowie and Amen Corner, they released a series of albums and became part of a movement that could loosely be termed ‘Prog Jazz’, blending modern jazz styles with avant-garde and psychedelic influences from the Pop Art scene and acts like The Beatles and The Jimi Hendrix Experience. "Original Peter" features a catchy abstract funk riff, repeated into a hypnotic dance groove. This very rare promotional single features a shorter and faster take of Original Peter with the bass funked up and electric piano hammering to the fore, supported on the B-side by hallucinogenic travelogue The Magic Garden, which doesn’t appear to have been directly inspired by The Magic Roundabout but may as well have been. The Mike Westbrook Concert Band’s live shows included impressive theatrical special effects, pyrotechnics, animal acts, tightrope walkers, high divers, back projections and magic tricks, all of which were carefully planned and choreographed to fit around the music. The overall effect was akin to a giant psychedelic circus.

General Election of 1747. Merlin, Or, the British Enchanter, printed for John King at The Globe in the Paltry, and John Tinney at The Golden Lion in Fleet-Street; and sold at the Print and [Pamphlet Shops], circa 1747, engraved and printed broadside on laid paper, satirising the General Election of 1747, torn with a little loss to upper and lower right corners, affecting one or two printed words or letters, some minor fraying with very slight loss to top margin, partially affecting one or two letters, light soiling at head and foot, 48.5 x 21.5 cm (15.2 x 8.5 ins) (Qty: 1)NOTESESTC online (London). Not in Foxon. Rare. A satire on the General Election in Great Britain held in late June and July of 1747, which resulted in a healthy majority of 144 for the Whig government. The Tory opposition was reduced to its lower number ever, largely due to the impact of the Jacobite Rebellion. The engraving depicts the Prime Minister's government as "his honour's pack ass", laden with revenue from Customs & Excise, and land tax, from which the tree of Government corruption and influence has grown. The title refers to Queen Caroline's famous pavilion at Richmond Gardens, known as Merlin's Cave, which was designed as a political allegory of the times, and became a subject of ridicule in the press subsequently.

Shaftesbury Election of 1774. The Trial of the Cause on the Action brought by Hans Wintrop Mortimer, Esq; Member for the Borough of Shaftesbury, against Francis Sykes, Esq; for bribary committed at Shaftesbury, previous to the General Election, in October, 1774. Tried by a special jury, on Saturday the 27th of July 1776. At the assize held at Dorchester for the County of Dorset, before The Honourable Sir James Eyre, printed in the year 1776, 19 pages, with a later printed broadside pasted to verso of the title page from Hans Wintrop Mortimer, addressed to the worthy electors of the Borough of Shaftesbury, dated Shaston, 11 June, 1790, proposing himself once more for election (the fourth time), and referring to the 'wicked conduct of my agent', plus the rare uncoloured mezzotint The Shaftsbury Election or the Humours of Punch, published by S. Jackson, 15 July 1775 (BM Satires 5341), separately published but here bound in as frontispiece, creased where previously folded, torn without loss to central vertical fold, and a shorter tear without loss near inner margin (restrengthened with paper to verso), further manuscript ownership annotations to endpapers and blank leaves at front of volume, by J.W. Mortimer and Mark Mortimer, circa 1820s-1850s, contemporary or near-contemporary sprinkled full calf, worn with backstrip partially deficient, 4to (Qty: 1)NOTESA notorious case of election bribery. 'At the election of Sir Thomas Rumbold and Sir Francis Sykes, the two ministerial candidates for Shaftesbury in 1774, several thousand pounds were distributed to the voters at the rate of 20 guineas a man. The mayor and aldermen were entrusted with the distribution and they devised a scheme by which a man disguised as Punch delivered guineas in parcels to electors through a hole in the door. The electors were then taken to another room in the house where 'Punch's Secretary' required him to sign notes for the money received made payable to an imaginary character, 'Glen Bucket'. The defeated candidate, Hans Mortimer, petitioned against the return on the ground of gross and notorious bribery the members and their agents... The House of Commons resolved that Sykes, Rumbold and six members of the Corporation of Shafesbury should be prosecuted for subornation of purgery; a bill was brought in for disfranchising Shaftesbury. These proceedings were eventually shelved, but while they were pending Mortimer brought actions... against Sykes for twenty-six acts of bribary, obtaining a verdict for twenty-two penalties amounting to £11,000.' (BM Satires 5341, pages 225-226). One of the best-known examples of rigged elections in 'rotten boroughs', partly because the candidates were nabobs, Sir Thomas Rumbold having been Governor of Madras, and consequently a man of enormous wealth.

* Baden-Powell (Sir Robert, 1st Baron, 1857-1941). A long Autograph Letter Signed, ‘Wunhi’, Meerut, N.W.P., 22 October 1897, beginning: ’How really kind you are to write to me, dear Mrs [Compton] Turner. It is a good thing to have sympathising friends when one is a bit down on one's luck (a state of mind which is very rare with me). I had intended to worry you no more with nonsense till you came to Meerut – but I can't help myself when I get two such very kind and cheery letters backed with the promise of another from Miss Molly [Ellen Turner, daughter]. Somehow our letters have persistently crossed in the post which has involved an extra amount of correspondence (much enjoyed by me!). Well I have quite got over my feelings now, but in speaking my mind to the “most stupendous” at HeadQrs. I fear I have made them a little "stuffy" as the Naval slang has it…’, then talking of his boys’ improved health meaning that they will be working in earnest from the following week, describing how his broken finger has ‘mended sufficiently to let me play polo, and that is a great help to bearing this sleepy life’, talking of the inspection by General Grant due in November, and then of a play called ‘Minor Poet’ in which Miss Molly is invited to take part if she so chooses, the letter continued on 25th [October] saying that now as neither Miss Molly nor Miss Wheler are keen on the part the play will no doubt fall through and he will have to tell the authoress ‘we don’t want her silly play after all - and yet people wonder that I’m prematurely worn out and bald!’, then referring to Mrs Turner’s invitation to repeat Sunday dinners and how delighted he would be, ‘I sometimes go to Church i.e. away in the jungle (I was away all yesterday so) when I get the restless fever on me, and then I don’t get back till all hours … I should not wonder if such temptation as you hold out does not reclaim me from such bad habits…’, 12 pages on three sheets of DVC letterhead bifolia, a few spots and last page partly toned, 8vo (Qty: 1)NOTESFrom the Pamela Dugdale collection. Baden-Powell played the comic part of Wun-Hi in The Geisha in Meerut in 1897 with Mrs Ellen Turner's daughter, (also Ellen), playing the part of Molly Seamore. Thereafter many of Baden-Powell's letters to mother and daugher were signed 'Wunhi'.

ESTC R211413 (four copies) & R219239 (ten copies); Wing L721 & L718. Two rare broadsides illuminating a key episode in the chaotic events leading up the Restoration following Richard Cromwell's forced recall of the Rump Parliament. 'After the military junta of Lambert and Fleetwood had seized power, with the full support of all his captains, Lawson brought the fleet of twenty-two warships up to Gravesend to blockade the capital. In mid-winter he had the means to starve and freeze London into submission. On Christmas day 1659 Fleetwood abdicated and thereby opened the way not only to the return of the Rump but eventually to the restoration of the monarchy ... By April Lawson at last realized that the republic was bankrupt and that of the choices facing the country—anarchy, military dictatorship, or monarchy—the last was the least worst. Still, his reluctant acceptance of the Restoration was a necessary condition of its smooth achievement; he alone commanded the loyalty of the Channel Fleet' (ODNB).

Thomas Buttersworth (British, 1768-1828)An English two-decker and an armed naval cutter in the Tagus off the Belem Tower signed 'T Buttersworth' (lower left)oil on canvas42.8 x 53.9cm (16 7/8 x 21 1/4in).Footnotes:This work depicts one of Thomas Buttersworth's favourite locations, the mouth of the River Tagus and, in particular, the historic Belem Tower. Resembling a fortress and indeed often referred to as 'Belem Castle', this picturesque landmark was actually built as a fortified lighthouse and formed the apex of a triangle of three structures intended to guard the approaches to Lisbon. Begun by order of King Manuel I (1515-20) during the first year of his reign and completed in 1521, the tower originally stood on an island in the middle of the Tagus until the course of the river was diverted by an earthquake in 1777, resiting it to its present location adjacent to the northern bank. Designed by Diego and Francisco Arruda in the Manueline style – it is, in fact, Portugal's only pure Manueline building – the tower is decorated with elaborate symbols of national as well as royal power including armillary spheres [King Manuel's badge of honour], crosses of the Military Order of Christ and even some naturalistic elements such as a rhinoceros, the first such representation in stone known in Europe. Subsequently used as a prison and then a telegraph station, occupying French troops destroyed the upper two stories in 1807 and even though these were later reconstructed, Buttersworth depicts the truncated tower just as it appeared to him and his contemporaries.Thomas Buttersworth was born on the Isle of Wight on 5th May 1768 and enlisted into the Royal Navy in August 1795. He joined his first ship, the brand-new frigate Caroline then fitting out at Deptford, as an Able Seaman, a rate which clearly recognised his ability and perhaps indicated some previous mercantile experience. After only three months in Caroline, he was appointed Master-at-Arms and, in 1800, was made a midshipman, a rare promotion from the 'lower deck' at that time. Invalided home from Minorca later that same year, he appears to have left the navy as a result although the nature of his infirmity is not known.Despite his subsequent career as a marine painter, the large number of Buttersworth's paintings – both oils and watercolours – which exist from the period 1797-1800 confirms that he was producing a significant output whilst still serving in the navy. Moreover, his many views of the battle of Cape St. Vincent (14th February 1797), the blockading squadron off Cadiz and of British naval activity in and around the Tagus strongly suggests that he witnessed those events in person. Undoubtedly, his own years with the fleet had given him a graphic understanding of ships and sea warfare to the extent that becoming a professional artist appeared entirely logical when his health seemingly prevented any further service with the Royal Navy. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: PP This lot is owned by a private individual. BREGUET; an important and rare silver and gold quarter repeating full hunter pocket watch with lever escapement from the collection of Lord Raglan, circa 1820, the engine turned case engraved with the arms of Lord Raglan, with silver band and pendant, cuvette numbered and hallmarked, quarter repeating pull and plunge button in band at '1', no.3720B, 40, with gilt long lever escapement movement, fine brass escape wheel with oil retention holes, bimetallic compensation balance, with compensation screws, sprung balance jewel for pivot protection, polished hammer striking on a single coiled gong and with silvered dial set with black Roman numerals to outer minute divisions, gilt Breguet moon hands, and offset subsidiary seconds dial between 5 and 6, diameter 51mm, approx 106g.Sold to Crosbie 15th May 1823 for 4,700 francs. This watch was included in the Lord Raglan Collection and was the property of The Marquees of Londonderry. Originally when this was bought it was already a very expensive watch indicating that it included many of Breguet's innovations for watches - one of the rarest and most remarkable is the use of the straight line lever escapement which was an adaption of the lateral lever escapement used by the English and by Breguet himself in earlier watches. This version was in time adopted by horology as a whole and forms the base of most modern mechanical watches today; rarer still is the use of oil retention holes in the teeth of the escape wheel. Breguet flirted with ideas for extending the life of the oil by placing a conical reservoir for the oil leading on each tooth - however, as it was expensive and not very effective, it did not become a regular feature in his watches.Purchased Messrs. Bonhams 21st June 2017.Additional InformationLight surface scratches and a tiny dent to the case, no mention of working order is given on any watches. Some toning and tarnishing to the silvered dial.

Amendment;  Please satisfy yourself Before bidding on this lot that it is a genuine Souscription.  BREGUET; a fine and rare silver and yellow metal open face 'Souscription' pocket watch, circa 1805, with plain silver case, yellow metal rims and white enamel dial set with Arabic numerals, five minute markers and 'secret signature' beneath the 12 and 'Breguet N.415', with single blued steel hand, and central square for time adjustment, the fine gilt typical Souscription movement no.29888 (matching case), with blued steel regulator and typical Breguet parachute shock resist, bimetallic compensation curb and under dial ruby cylinder escapement, the dust cover inscribed 'Breguet Invenit & Fecit N.415', diameter 61mm, approx 169.5g.After Abraham Louis Breguet returned from exile back to Paris in the 1790s, his business was virtually destroyed. He came up with a plan whereby his clients could order a watch, paying a down payment and then the balance when the watch was delivered. This founded the business and allowed him to rebuild. These watches were known as 'Souscription' watches and had the secret scratched signature and number on the dial. This was applied using an early form of pantograph which was an exceptionally complex process and difficult to reproduce cleanly. However, this was imperative due to the number of fake Breguet watches being produced by other manufacturers at the same time. Additional InformationThe dust cover is ever so slightly loose, there are light surface scratches throughout, the dial has a slither chip approx 6mm x 4mm between the 5 and 6 point, light surface scratches and also two very fine hairline cracks, each approx 1cm spurning from the central winding point. Light surface scratches to the dial in a whole and no guarantee is given to any watch being in working order.

Additional InformationSome light surface scratches to the glass and to the case. On offer from a private collection, this vehicle has not been used for some time. It is a non-runner and is strictly sold as seen. Carl Borgward was a hands-on industrialist, who owned, and micro-managed Hansa, Goliath, Lloyd and Borgward brands in Germany. By the 1950s, they were running fifth in the German sales league, although there were clouds on the horizon, the company becoming insolvent in 1961 having put too much effort into the American market which was having troubles of its own. In truth, Borgward's strategy of constantly introducing new models was causing reliability issues, inefficient tooling usage and market confusion, but that didn't stop the concern making fine cars, which in the case of the Borgward Isabella, competed at the upper end of the market. Their bread and butter models were the Isabella two-door saloon and estate models, but to add some glamour, Borgward introduced the elegant coupé as on offer today. With overtones of Mercedes 190SL in the styling and BMW-influenced engines, they offered strong 80+mph performance from their modest 75bhp 1,493cc engines. There is little early history of this 1959 German coupé apart from some tax discs and MOTs from the early eighties, however, we know that it was first registered in the UK in May 1962. It was acquired in August 1993 by Tony Hunt of Tipton who had been looking for one for some months. There is a small article in Practical Classics Magazine (Jan 1996) telling the story of his two-year glass-out, engine-out, floor out restoration of 772 ELC and a number of photographs including some taken presumably at the end with the car looking very smart on a show stand. There is an MOT on file dated May 1996 at a mileage (km?) of 52,640. 772 ELC was subsequently purchased on 15/02/1997 by David Palmer from Oxford who owned it until 29/11/2009 and judging by the amount of invoices in the file that relate to immediately after his purchase, he was not too impressed with the restoration. Too much work to list here but the important bits are a complete retrim by Minns of Oxford in October 1997 (£1,800) and an engine rebuild (rebore, new pistons, crank regrind, new mains, big ends, small ends) £639 in June 1998. The Isabella has been part of a collection since 2014 but, pleasingly, has remained in decent condition. As well as all the invoices, MOTs photographs etc. it's supplied with the original 'Operating Instructions' in English. This is a lovely example of a rare car and, when further detailed, would make a good show car. Click here for more information This car was consigned by Simon Langsdale. Formerly producers of tools, coffee mills, umbrella spikes and corsetry, Peugeot commenced its long-standing connection with transport in 1885 when it added cycle manufacture to its portfolio. The second oldest motor manufacturer in the world, the company commenced car production in 1889 with a steam-powered tri-car but soon abandoned steam in favour of the internal combustion engine, building a succession of ever-larger automobiles before introducing the first of its famous Bébé light cars in 1900. New for 1939, the Peugeot 202 was powered by a four-cylinder 1,133cc overhead-valve engine coupled to a three-speed synchromesh gearbox with worm drive rear axle. The suspension was independent at the front and the 202 followed the lines of the larger 402, its streamlined styling reflecting the late-1930s preoccupation with passenger-car aerodynamics. Between 1947 and 1949, the manufacturer produced 3,015 timber bodied "Hatch" (hatchback) conversions: this model cost 55% more than the Berline (saloon) and anticipated future Peugeot policy by using a slightly longer chassis than that used on other 202 versions. The extensive use of timber took the company back to a technology that it had abandoned in 1931 when production of the Type 190 ended, and according to the manufacturer was above all a response to the shortage of sheet steel in post-war France.A very rare survivor of an already rare model, the Peugeot 202 offered here is an example of the Canadienne 'woodie' estate car variant. Attractively finished in maroon with trademark wooden doors and a beige cloth interior it was running and driving up until a few years ago. Currently, a non-runner but looks to have potential and would be regularly employed in the film/ television industry. We understand it has covered around 88,000km and it's accompanied by its French Carte Grise. Click here for more information This car was consigned by Simon Langsdale. A tool-room copy D-Type Shortnose - a collaboration in 2005 between Jerry Booen (ex-Lotus design engineer/D-Type luminary and David Duffy) Two years in construction utilising, whenever possible, either original or correct period parts Fitted with a period-correct, 3.4-litre, dry-sump unit running triple 45DCO3 Webers and a genuine D-Type, 4-speed all synchro gearbox Aluminium hand-formed bodywork from specially made bucks. Steel frame monocoque/aluminium tub. Correct instrumentation and seating. Bolted-in Roll Hoop (for straightforward removal) Supplied with some old FIA papers, build details and its history file Offered at a fraction of what it would cost to replicate, especially considering the number of priceless and virtually unobtainable original parts used in the build The triple, Le Mans-winning Jaguar D-Type will need little introduction. Following on from the C-Type's victories in 1951 and 1953, the new D-Type, with its state-of-the-art chassis encompassing a central monocoque section, improved rear suspension and a more powerful XK engine, handsomely won the Vingt Quatre Heures du Mans in 1955, 1956 and 1957. Among the most desirable of collectors' cars worldwide, today even the 'customer' cars, let alone the works cars, will cost millions if you can even find one. Therefore, the opportunity to acquire a genuine sixties Jaguar two-seater that has been fully restored, re-engineered and re-clothed in effectively a 'tool-room' copy of D-Type by quality craftsmen, requires serious consideration. This particular, 'Short Nose' recreation, however, is no ordinary replica. In April 2005, two knowledgeable and highly skilled enthusiasts came together to build an exact copy of a Production D-Type. Jerry Booen is an ex-Lotus design engineer and in more recent times heads up the specialist team at 'D-Type Devs', whilst his colleague at the time was David Duffy, who had been a competitor for many years and during the period when this car was being built, owned and raced 'XKD 544'. Jerry had amassed a virtually complete set of drawings for the car and over time, had collected a range of incredibly rare parts using a useful contact in New Zealand. A document in the accompanying history file details the impressive specification of the build which we list here: Engine: 3.4-litres, triple Weber 45DCO3 Carburettors, dry sump Transmission: Genuine D-Type 4-speed, all-synchro box, live rear axle Bodywork: Aluminium panels hand-formed on specially made bucks Monocoque: Steel frame in an aluminium tub Suspension: Wishbone front, trailing arms rear at the rear with torsion bars Brakes: Plessey pump powered system with 6-pot/4-pot discs Roll Hoop: Bolted in to make removal straightforward Interior: 'Correct' instrumentation and seating Wheels: Original Dunlop alloys, 6.00/6.50 on 5-inch rims The result of all of this is a highly impressive, both technically and cosmetically, 'tool room copy' of the iconic D-type. Where possible, either original or period-correct parts were rebuilt and used, including the engine, gearbox, rear axle, wheels and carburettors. As this was between 2005-2007, Jerry and David did manage to find some original parts, a task getting more difficult with the passing years. Where period parts were not available, remanufactured D-Type spares including the front suspension were bought from historic racing specialists. In cases where parts needed to be made from scratch, original drawings were used as was the case for the chassis frame, brakes, monocoque and bodywork. After completion, FIA papers were granted and the identity of a 1962 Jaguar E-Type was used for the road registration (Chassis 860552). The accompanying history file includes details of all this as well as the old FIA papers. Naturally, it's finished in British Racing Green with the correct Apple Green interior, both seats are fitted with Willans full harnesses, and the car sits on original Dunlop alloys wearing a set of period Cinturatos. After the obligatory shakedown and road tests, the car was passed onto a well-known collector who owned it for the following 7-8 years. In more recent times this special car has formed part of a large collection and an approved roll cage (bolted-in to make removal straightforward) has been professionally fitted expanding the number of options available. Offered at a fraction of what it would cost to replicate, especially considering the number of priceless and virtually unobtainable original parts used in the build, this special homage to the iconic D-Type looks remarkable value. It would be welcome at prestigious events anywhere and can offer enjoyment and pride of ownership both on the road, or with some further investment, as a glorious race car to grace the circuits of Europe. Many original RS body panelsVery detailed invoices from Autohaus from December 2003 to February 2013The car was shipped to the UK during October 2013 and UK-registered as BAD 1KThe interior is predominantly original RS but was refreshed by Porsche Tonbridge in January 2015Superbly presented in Viper Green with the correct 1973 2.7 RS graphics and black interiorIt's very rare for a recreation of the legendary 2.7 RS to be based on a contemporary car that has significant value itselfAny inspection of this superbly prepared car and its paperwork would be welcomeNB. the cherished registration illustrated 27 RST does not form part of the saleThe 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 RS is considered by all knowledgeable Porsche enthusiasts to be the single best 911 of all time. This is high praise when you consider the large number of 911 models that have been built over the 50+ years since the model's introduction. The Carrera RS (Renn Sport) is still, to this day, the benchmark 911, the beautiful lines only being matched by the sheer delight of driving it, with its positive steering, exhilarating sound and linear performance. Built before the American "ugly bumper" era and the oil/fuel crisis, the RS had a purity of purpose that was not compromised by outside factors. For this reason, the Porsche RS Replica market has grown enormously and demand is far outstripping the supply of quality machines. The majority of RS recreations are based on later 911s, however, the immaculate evocation here is based on an original 1971, 'D'Series 2.2-litre 911E, a rare and valuable car in its own right.Dating from 1971, this Porsche 911E was originally left-hand drive and belonged to Crispin Dawes who lived in Balmoral Ridge in Queensland, Australia. It was raced locally during the 90s and was involved in a light rear-end accident in 1996. A few months later he decided that rather than repair the car he would convert it to right-hand drive and create the ultimate homage to the legendary 2.7 RS.This work was entrusted to Autohaus Hamilton of New South Wales, well-established Porsche specialists and they were to be involved with the car right through until 2013 when it was shipped to the UK. In total there are 30 pages of detailed invoices from Autohaus amounting to almost 95,000 Australian dollars and anyone considering the purchase of this lovely RS needs to spend some time examining these as, in addition to the 2.7-litre engine, 915 gearbox, body restoration and major parts, every nut, grommet and washer that went into this car's preparation is listed. The first invoice ($21,100) is dated 19-12-2003 and runs to 5 pages and includes the replacement 2.7-litre RS engine, 915 gearbox and clutch. Over the next 8 years, the work appears to be spaced out, but reading through, it's obvious that correctly replicating a '73 RS was the priority. The odometer readings increased between invoices so we assume the car was being used regularly. In June 2012 it was fully stripped again and was sent to the "panel shop" for an engine out, glass out respray in the correct shade of Viper Green. In October 2013, the Porsche was purchased by a well-known enthusiast in Norfolk to add to his collection and shipped in a container later that month. There is correspondence with HMRC in the file confirming the import and that all duties and taxes have been paid. The car was UK-registered in December 2013 as BAD 1K.Although very happy with his new Porsche, our collector eventually decided that the interior, the majority of which was original RS was not up to the standard of the rest of the car and asked the Porsche Centre Tonbridge to refresh the car's interior, retaining all the carefully sourced RS parts and sort out one or two little niggles and this was carried out in January 2015. (Invoice in the file). At the same time, a new fuel tank was fitted complete with fuel pump, sender, filter and hoses, the rear brake disc backplates were replaced, a new spare wheel and battery were fitted and all four road wheels were refurbished. The invoice totalled £6,254.77 and the odometer read 6,411km at that point. The little RS now presents superbly with a deep shine and excellent detailing. The interior looks "as if no one has ever sat in it" and the RS speedometer shows 8,017km. The whole car looks and drives every inch the '73 2.7RS and is worthy of close inspection. An original 1973 Carrera RS is out of reach for anyone but those with the deepest of pockets, but this car has so many of the dynamic properties of the 1973 icon, shares so many RS parts, is presented in excellent condition throughout, and is based on a 1971 911E a car that has significant value in its own right. The car is offered with an MOT valid until 22/04/2021, Swansea V5C, full details of its Australian restoration, UK import correspondence, and details of Porsche Tonbridge's fastidious attentions, meaning this incredible motor car is now ready for its next lucky owner to cherish and enjoy in equal measures.Stop Press. Exciting news. Today, May the 19th, we have been lucky enough to speak to the man who created this fabulous car and he has confirmed certain really positive aspects of the car's build of which we we were not aware when we wrote the original description. He explained that he had raced it for a period and following a bit of a rear-end tap he decided to convert it from left-hand drive to right-hand drive and create the ultimate homage to the legendary 2.7 RS. The work was carried out over 10 years initially and obviously all of the details are in the 30 pages of detailed invoices from Autohaus Hamilton in NSW as listed before. However, importantly, he assures us that the body panels, wings, dashboard, steering wheel and instruments are all original RS parts having being sourced over time, something we suspected but couldn't confirm, and most importantly the engine is an original 2.7-litre RS. Otherwise, the information in our original story hasn't changed and this additional information is confidence-inspiring and makes this remarkable Porsche seem even better value.Video of the Porsche 911 2.7 RS Re-creation Click here for more information This car was consigned by Nick Whale. Absolutely sparkling, 3-litre Targa from the first year of 'Super Carrera' productionFinished in Petrol Blue Metallic with a black leatherette/black and white 'pin-stripe ' velour interiorFive-speed manual box, ATS alloys, Leather Wheel, Centre Console and Electric WindowsComprehensive history from new with Autofarm, Francis Tuthill, and Porsche Centre BrooklandsCurrent mileage is 23,980. Major Porsche Service with fresh fluids on 27/01/2020 at 23,979 miles (one mile ago)Detailed Ownership History, every MOT, Porsche C of A, fully stamped Service Records in the original pouch, an original 1978 Sales Brochure, the current V5C and an MOT valid until 21/08/2020In simply remarkable condition, totally unmolested and one of the best original cars we have ever seenIn 1978, Porsche introduced their latest development of the 911, christened the '911 SC', with the SC standing for Super Carrera. Powered by a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and a five-speed, 915 transmission, power output initially was 180bhp, subsequently 188bhp and finally, in 1981, it was increased to a heady 204bhp. 1979 was the year that Porsche had envisioned that their new 928 would replace the 911 (we are still waiting for that to happen), however, 911 sales remained so strong that Porsche revised its strategy and decided to inject new life into their core model. According to its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this stunning Targa was built in September 1977 for the 1978 Model Year and was finished in Petrol Blue Metallic (only available '78-80) with a Black Leatherette interior enhanced by black and white 'pin-stripe ' velours. It 's fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox, the standard ATS alloys, which look particularly good on the Targa, and optioned from new with Impact Absorbers, Headlamp Washers, Leather Steering Wheel, Coloured Windows, a Centre Console and Electric Windows. Finding a 1970s Porsche with a comprehensive history is fairly rare and, apart from an intriguing nine years, this lovely original car has just that. Initially ordered from AFN Guildford by Peter Cresswell, senior partner in the law firm, Bradstock Plunkett, the Porsche was first registered as WLY 185S on 25/11/1977. It had covered just over 3,000 miles when it was sadly stolen from Chelsea whilst the Cresswell family were abroad on holiday. No trace was subsequently found and the insurance company naturally replaced it with a similar model. Some nine years later, shortly after this second car was replaced with his third new Porsche, Peter Cresswell received an unexpected phone call from Worthing Police telling him that 'his ' Porsche had been left blocking someone 's drive and when it was reported, it popped up as 'stolen '. It had covered less than 1,000 miles in the previous nine years and remained in very good condition. It still bore the original registration suggesting that it hadn 't been stolen to sell on to the Continent or to have its identity changed and we can only conclude that whoever stole it loved it so much that they simply had to have it. It was presumably kept in a lock-up and brought out on high-days and holidays to be driven around on its original plates. Brave. It's important to note that at no point have HPI ever listed the car as 'Stolen and Recovered' and pleasingly, the car does not seem to have been recorded anywhere in this connection. Anyway, in mid-March 1987, having negotiated a figure of £11,000 with Royal Insurance, WLY 185S formally became the property of Peter Cresswell, as it was to remain until 2005. The car was used lightly over the next few years and having covered only a few thousand miles required little in the way of maintenance apart from a new heat exchanger and full service in May 1997 at 8,589 miles, however, in May 1999 the car was sent to Autofarm at 9,076 miles for a general assessment. Several head studs were found to be broken and one thing lead to another resulting in Autofarm rebuilding the complete top end with replacements barrels and heads, new pistons and rings, and associated components. From the look of the invoices on file, Autofarm carried out further mechanical attention and the invoices (all on file) from the May-September period amount to around £7,500. The Porsche was based near Banbury so it was natural that Autofarm in Weston-on-the Green continued to look after and service it which they did until its sale to Mike Gabb on 20/10/2005 with a mileage of just over 11,000. Mike and Sally Gabb enjoyed the little Porsche for almost eight years covering a total of just over 11,000 miles, with service invoices from Auto 2000 and Francis Tuthill, before selling it to Neal Gordon on 21/08/2013. Neal applied the cherished registration '2 UPK ' to the Porsche, moved it to his slot in the underground NCP car park in Cadogan Gardens and covered a total of only 1,800 miles in the following three years with the longest single trip being a 145-mile journey to Norfolk. Towards the end of his ownership Neal treated the car to four new brake calipers with pads, four correct-spec BOGE shock absorbers, greased, adjusted, renewed parts of the clutch and throttle linkages, set the wheel alignment and filled the gearbox with 'very expensive oil'. This work was carried out by Porsche Brooklands on 16/08/2016 at a mileage of 23,754. In December 2016, at an indicated mileage of 23,973, the Porsche was purchased by Graham Dacre CBE and added to his Norfolk-based collection where it was to remain until recently purchased by our vendor. The current indicated mileage is 23,980 and there is an invoice on file from Porsche Cardiff detailing a Major Service with fresh fluids on 27/01/2020 at 23,979 miles (one mile ago). With the exception of the missing nine years when the Porsche was stolen, the service history is comprehensive, however, it only covered 1,000 miles whilst in hiding and, as it was returned unmolested our 't-leaf ' presumably loved the car, so the lack of history is not an issue. The owner 's file is impressive with a detailed Ownership History, every MOT back to 1989 individually sleeved, a summarised MOT History, older V5Cs, a significant number of detailed invoices/worksheets from Autofarm, Francis Tuthill, and Porsche Centres Brooklands and Cardiff, a Porsche C of A, fully stamped Service Records in the original pouch, an original 1978 Sales Brochure, the current V5C and an MOT valid until 21/08/2020. Patently well cared for throughout its life, even by the bloke who stole it, this Targa remains in remarkable condition. It presents really well in a delightful shade of Petrol Blue, the paintwork retains a deep shine, the shut lines are factory standard, the brushed stainless-steel roll hoop appears unmarked and the ATS alloys look sharp. Similarly, the interior looks virtually showroom fresh with very little signs of wear and the black and white pin-stripe seats are quintessentially eighties but 'eighties boardroom' as opposed to 'eighties night-club'. With a warranted mileage of less than 24,000, a comprehensive history and looking a 'million dollars', this 1978 3-litre SC Targa is worthy of a place in any collection of classic Porsches.
