BERTHIER LOUIS-ALEXANDRE: (1753-1815) Marshal of France, Prince of Neuchatel. Chief of Staff under Napoleon. Very rare L.S., `Ale[xand]r Berthier´, one page, 4to, Cairo, 7th November 1798, to M. Poussielgue, General Administrator of the Finances in Egypt, in French. A rare letter signed by Berthier from Cairo, referring to few objects given to Napoleon Bonaparte. The letter bears to the heading a stamp of the French Republic and the printed heading of “Citizen Alexandre Berthier, General of Division. Chief General-Staff of the Army”. Berthier refers to Napoleon stating `I send to you my dear Poussielgue the receipt for the several objects which have been given to me. I forward to you those that the General in Chief has not taken which are….object in silver, a teapot, horse chest protection..´ One light stain to the lower left border not affecting the text or signature. BLUCHER GEBHARD VON: (1742-1819) Prince von Wahlstatt. Prussian field Marshal. Von Blucher leaded the Prussian army against Napoleon At the battles of Leipzig and Waterloo playing a decisive role in the allied victory. He is the highest-decorated Prussian soldier in history. Rare L.S., `Blucher´, a bold good signature example, one page, 4to, Rambouillet, 27th July 1815, to General von Bulow, in German. The letter bears to the upper left corner the printed heading of the Nieder-Rhein General Commando Army. The letter with military content refers to Konigsberg where his correspondent Friedrich von Bulow was established as Commander in Chief. Folded, with small overall age wear. G to VG   Friedrich Wilhelm von Bulow (1755-1816) Graf von Dennewitz. Prussian General of the Napoleonic Wars. Von Bulow commanded the 4th Corps of Blucher´s army in the Waterloo Campaign where his Corps headed the flank attack upon Napoleon.

MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY: Clark Gable (1901-1960) American Actor, Academy Award winner. An excellent vintage signed and inscribed sepia 10 x 13 photograph of Gable standing in a three quarter length profile pose in costume as Fletcher Christian in a scene from the film Mutiny on the Bounty (1935). Photograph by Grimes of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and bearing their credit stamp to the verso. Signed in blue fountain pen ink by Gable across a light area of the image, 'To Irving, It was Mutiny on the Bounty!! Clark'; Charles Laughton (1899-1962) English Actor, Academy Award winner. An excellent vintage signed and inscribed sepia 10.5 x 13.5 photograph of Laughton standing in a half length pose in costume from one of his most famous screen roles as Captain William Bligh in Mutiny on the Bounty (1935). Photograph by Grimes of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and bearing their credit stamp to the verso. Signed by Laughton in bold black fountain pen ink to a clear area of the image, 'For Irving from Charlie (you must be sick of my face)'. Both Gable and Laughton received Best Actor Academy Award nominations for their roles in Mutiny on the Bounty and the film itself won a Best Picture Oscar. A rare and desirable pair of signed photographs. Some very slight corner and surface creasing, one small tear to the right white border of Laughton's photograph and two very small areas of paper loss to two corners of the border and not affecting the image. About VG, 2 The present photographs were inscribed by Gable and Laughton to Irving Glassberg (1906-1958) Polish-American Cinematographer.

SHINING THE: Danny Lloyd (1972-     ) American Child Actor who portrayed Danny Torrance in the horror film The Shining (1980). A rare signed colour 10 x 8 photograph of the young Lloyd in a half length pose wearing a jumper promoting The Shining. Signed in a juvenile hand to a clear area of the background and with an inscription in the hand of one of his parents. Together with an A.L.S., Mr & Mrs. James Lloyd, two pages, 8vo, n.p., 24th March 1979, to Mr. Collington, stating, in part, 'As Danny is only six years old he cannot write himself to thank you. We had no photographs suitable since this is Danny's first acting venture. This picture is a snapshot blown up. The sweater he's wearing is a gift from Jack Nicholson to the crew. Your letter will be included in Danny's memory book as you are the first to ask for a photograph. Danny started the movie “The Shining” when he was 5 years old. A rare flintlock pistol by Nicholas Paris, Warwick, signed ' N .Paris, Warwick ', 13 cm screw off cannon barrel, engraved steel lock plate, cock and trigger guard, the walnut stock mounted with silver scrolls and engraved cartouche with the upper section of a rearing stag a leaf branch in its mouth, the silver but cap engraved with a bird and terminating in a lion's head, 30.5 cm. Nicholas Paris set up his business in Jury Street, Warwick in 1669 and was buried in Warwick on 5th October 1716.His most important patron was Thomas Leigh, 2nd Baron of Stoneleigh. As well as being a gunmaker, Paris also worked as a blacksmith, watch maker, gilder and enameller, and carried out various other works within the town of Warwick. A rare James I silver pipe, unmarked, circa 1620, tapering circular bowl, the base scratch initialled 'I.H' within a pelleted circle, tapering stem, in a fitted case, together with a copy of a magazine article on the pipe, length 17.2cm, approx. weight 1.3oz. (2) Provenance: from a Deceased Estate. Sotheby's, London, Silver Sale, 24 April 1969, lot 215. This pipe is written up and illustrated in the Apollo magazine, 'A rare James I silver Pipe', by Electius, Vol LXI, March 1955.

A rare William and Mary silver counter box, maker's mark TS, attributed to Thomas Steed, London 1690, cylindrical trefoil form, the pull-off cover with an armorial within foliate scroll and palm leaf mantling, the underside of the base with a monogram, length 4.8cm, height 3.2cm, approx. weight 1.7oz. The arms are those of an unknown family impaling Campbell quartering Lorn for the Dukes of Argyll. A near pair to this box is in the Lion Collection, entry number 44. A rare Charles I East Anglian silver Lion Sejant spoon, SI or IS with a pellet below or above, Norwich 1636, fig-shaped bowl, faceted tapering stem, the Lion Sejant finial with traces of gilding, the reverse of the bowl with an old collection label which reads '1636 Norwich by John Stone', length 17cm, approx. weight 1.4oz. Provenance: A Private Collection. Anonymous Collection in 1952. Sotheby and Co., Provincial Spoons, left by The Late H.D. Ellis, Esq. 13 November 1935, lot 44. Where the catalogue states: 'This most important spoon is, at present, the only known lion sejant that can definitely be ascribed to Norwich. Illustrated in How, G., in collaboration with How J., English and Scottish Silver Spoons, Volume One, Chapter II, Section VII, pages 264-266, plate 5, right-hand spoon.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919)Le Chapeau Épinglé (1re Plance) (see Delteil 6, Stella 6)The rare and previously unrecorded drypoint printing with rich burr, printed in dark brown ink, 1894-95, a unique proof printed before steel-facing and the bevelling of the plate, on laid paper, with full margins, 120 x 85mm (4 3/4 x 3 1/3in) (unframed)Both Delteil and Stella had only seen impressions of this work printed after the plate was steel-faced and mistakenly assumed the work to be an etching. This previously unknown impression printed prior to the steel-facing displays extremely rich burr and a delicate veil of plate tone, and thus we can unquestionably state that the work is indeed a drypoint engraving rather than an etching.
