AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE DOUBLE-ENDED DOUBLE-SIDED SHOT AND OR POWDER-CHARGER, UNSIGNED, English, circa 1830, the twin iron body with oval-shaped 3 1/4in. long compartments mounted side-by-side and further divided internally into four compartments, one end of the charger with sprung unmarked brass lids, the other with sprung iron lids, each marked 'OZ 1 3/4', flush fitting mainsprings along the back, some shallow pitting and staining to the iron surfaces.

A RARE CASED VICTORIAN 12-BORE PINFIRE LOADING AND CLEANING SET, circa 1865, possibly French, comprising of a two-tiered oak case measuring externally approximately 10 1/2in. x 6in. x 4 1/4in., loose handle mounted to a bow-tie escutcheon on the lid, the interior lined in red baize in the continental style, the top-tray containing a three piece lignum sizing tool, two adjustable powder or shot measures (one a replacement) and a 'Hawksley' brass capper (additional compartment for a powder scoop, missing), the lower tray with a four-piece brass mounted mahogany cleaning rod, 'Turk's' head brush, pull-through weight, French cap-tin and a worm (additional compartments for a turn-screw and possibly a cartridge extractor, both absent).

ZEISS, JENA A RARE PAIR OF ASTRONOMICAL 12-24-42x60 VARIABLE MAGNIFICATION BINOCULARS, MODEL 'STARMORBI', serial no. 1534, circa 1925 and designed for astronomical observation, of roof-prism design with jointed barrels with central bar and peg mount, the ocular lenses housed on rotating mounts, each mount sporting an individually focusing eye-piece for 12, 24 and 42 magnifications, the central mount marked with the Carl Zeiss Jena trademark above 'STARMORBI' and the serial number, the barrels and prism housings finished in a black stippled covering, the remainder in gloss black, retaining their original spring steel objective lens caps, original hard rubber cups for the ocular lenses and contained in a later possibly custom made leather carry-case, overall length of binoculars 19in., weight without case approx. 14lbs. and complete with a 'Velbon' aluminium tripod adapted for same.

RWS, GERMANY A RARE BOXED .177 PRE-CHARGED PNEUMATIC SINGLE-SHOT AIR-RIFLE, MODEL 'CA100', serial no. 0075, circa 2008 and being a collaboration between Air-Arms of the U.K. and RWS of Germany, with unsighted, shrouded blued 25 1/4in. barrel, manual breech, matt-black alloy receiver marked 'RWS CA100 COMPRESSED AIR SYSTEM', blued under-barrel air-reservoir with front-mounted pressure gauge, laminated anatomical right hand adjustable three-quarter stock, in its makers card carton appearing little used (untested), together with filling adaptor, tools and a selection of muzzle-weights.

ELEY BROS, LONDON A GOOD COMPREHENSIVE GLAZED CARTRIDGE AND METALLIC AMMUNITION ADVERTISING BOARD, circa 1895, 30 1/2in. x 25 1/4in. oak outer frame (small chips and losses) marked in black 'ELEY' along the top, 'SPORTING' and 'MILITARY' to the left and right sides respectively and 'CARTRIDGES' along the bottom and with a red-painted wooden bevelled inner frame behind the glass, the pale blue background with a raised roundel printed with 'ELEY AMMUNITION' around the 'E.B.L.' central shield, the cartridges displayed in a general starburst formation with metallics to the outer points and bordered by rare trade-name cartridges such as 'Aquoid', 'Neptune', 'Elite', 'Titan', 'Juno', 'Erin-Go-Bragh', 'Pluto' , Mars' and 'Thor' amongst many others, all above a comprehensive display of paper cartridges in all gauges between .360 shotgun to 4-bore shotgun and including rare sizes such as 32-bore, 24-bore and 14-bore and also including cases advertising various powder types such as 'Amberite', 'Ballistite', 'Schultze' and 'E.C.', together with various cut-aways, the metallics including everything from .577-500 downwards to gallery rimfire ammunition, some fading to shell hulls, the reverse with remains of a French or Belgian retailer's paper label.

CLARKE, LONDON AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE 20-BORE FLINTLOCK OVER-UNDER SPORTING-GUN, no visible serial number, circa 1795, with rebrowned 33 1/2in. two-stage barrels, moulded girdle at transition, gold line and oval poincon (unsigned) at breech, the top-flat of barrel signed 'CLARKE, HOLBORN, LONDON', flat border engraved locks with pointed tails, the tails further engraved with seated birds and signed below the rainproof pans 'CLARKE', swan-necked cocks and rollers to the frizzen springs, chequered walnut straight-hand butt-stock of semi comb-less form with raised cheek-piece, iron furniture including scrolled lower tang, single trigger, walnut side-pieces exposing the bottom barrel, ramrod mounted to the right hand side, dummy ramrod throat to the left, restored with some loss to engraved detail and sharp edges.

KYNOCH LTD., BIRMINGHAM AN EXTREMELY RARE .177 BREAK-BARREL AIR-RIFLE, MODEL 'KYNOCH SWIFT', serial no. 654, for approximately 1908, with slightly tapering 18 1/2in. barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight, elevating notch rear-sight, plain blued air-chamber marked 'KYNOCH LIMITED PATENT' and with substantial sprung locking-jaws at breech, adjustable trigger, chequered semi-pistol grip walnut butt-stock with iron heel-plate (small crack at hand, lower guard tang fractured), the left hand side of butt stamped with 'KYNOCH LIMITED, BIRMINGHAM, PATENT' in a roundel and the right side with a depiction of a 'swift' (see notes below), moulded iron cocking link and no provision for fore-end, strong traces of finish remaining, 42 1/2in. overall, weight approx. 7lbs. FRANK CLARKE, BIRMINGHAM AN ULTRA-RARE .177 SINGLE-SHOT NICKEL-PLATED SPRING-PISTON AIR-PISTOL, MODEL 'TITAN MKI', serial no. 274, circa 1916, with plain plated bolt-action 9 1/4in. slide-forwards smooth-bore barrel (bolt handle re-soldered), replacement applied aluminium fore-sight 'sleeve' at muzzle, standing notch rear-sight on bolt-handle at breech, plain plated air-chamber with single blued barrel-band, blued barrel support and pull-out cocking piece to front, separate plated frame numbered '274' on the left-hand side, the end-cap stamped with a crown over 'REGD. NO. 656710' over 'MADE IN ENGLAND', blued trigger-blade (stained) and chequered hard-rubber grips, the left hand one bearing the legend 'THE TITAN' in vertical raised letters, the right hand one with the Frank Clarke monogram and the letter 'B', the whole retaining the majority of its nickel-plated finish (small losses to barrel, trigger-guard and sharp edges), the blued ancillaries with powdery surface corrosion. MASSACHUSETTS ARMS CO., USA A RARE .50 PERCUSSION BREECH-LOADING CARBINE, MODEL 'MAYNARD'S PATENT 1ST MODEL', serial no. 4642, for between 1860-61, with blued octagonal to round 20in. barrel, nickel crescent fore-sight, no provision on barrel for rear-sight, open iron frame (strong traces of colour) fitted with a flush trapdoor for Maynard's tape primer on the right hand side and advancing wheel on the left, the right side marked 'MAYNARD'S ARMS CO. WASHINGTON', the left 'MANUFACTURED BY THE MASS. ARMS CO. CHICOPEE FALLS', central hammer with offset nose, factory fitted folding ladder tang-sight, walnut slab-sided butt-stock stamped '442' on the left side and with heavy iron crescent heel-plate, reverse opening 'patchbox' for spare primer rolls, the lid marked 'MAYNARD PATENTEE MAY 27 1851, JUNE 17 1856', the inside of box with paper label printed with 'MAYNARD PATENTEE' and six patent dates to December 6th 1859, underlever opening, the lever forming the trigger-guard, rare factory fitted double set triggers, much finish and colour remaining throughout.

A MOST RARE 4mm PERCUSSION FOUR-SHOT WALKING-STICK VOLLEY-GUN WITH BAYONET SIGNED PARIS, no visible serial number, circa 1835, with 30 1/4in. horn-tipped cane shaft detaching via a brass collar to reveal a square section 5 3/4in. bayonet with carved mount, the side of bayonet marked 'PARIS * BREVETTE', the bayonet in turn mounted centrally to a scroll engraved 2 5/8in. barrel group fluted near the muzzles, simple fly-back mechanism to crush a fulminate pill released via an engraved trigger-bar, Belgian proofs, engraved platinum bands, further 'PARIS' signature and initials 'A.H.', cane hilt with gilded broad brass collar and flaring domed pommel, 35 1/4in. overall.

It offered the convenience of a door for driver and each passenger, and had a completely enclosed roof and wind-up windows, yet retained the elegant proportions that the coachbuilder was so renowned for which the coachbuilder was so renowned.That first car was 'B3HM', which was followed by an additional 17 such models. The second 'All-weather' in sequence by coachwork number was this car, 'B7HM' (see Brian Smith's authoritative book Vanden Plas Coachbuilders). Its factory build sheets show that 'B7HM' was sold new to D J S MacKinnon of Melbourne, Australia and cost the not inconsiderable sum of £1,331. When new the car was finished grey with black wings, wheels and undercarriage, and had a khaki roof, while the interior was trimmed in grey Vaumol crushed grain leather. The Bentley was UK registered as 'DGO 960' before its departure for Australia where it remained until 1949.Next owned by Alan Mackay of Glenapp Castle, Ayrshire, 'B7HM' changed hands a few times before departing for Los Angeles, California in the late 1960s. It was around this time that it was used in the David Niven film, Prudence and the Pill (1968). The Bentley would remain in the USA for more than two decades. While there, the car was treated to a comprehensive restoration of its bodywork and cosmetics, including the removal of all body panels in order to replace all the body's structural wood. In 2000 the car was shipped back to the UK and would continue to benefit from further considerable expenditure, this time on the mechanical aspects with a rebuild of the engine, drivetrain, and chassis. Its rebuild included fitting a Tim Payne overdrive system. Approximately £186,000 was spent on bringing 'B7HM' to superb driving and cosmetic condition, and a comprehensive file containing bills and invoices documenting its restoration accompanies the car. The original registration 'DGO 960' was retrieved in the mid-2000s with the Bentley Drivers Club's assistance. 'B7HM' has formed part of the Stan West Collection since its purchase at Bonhams' Goodwood Festival of Speed sale in July 2011 (Lot 414). Invoices relating to its ongoing maintenance by marque specialists P&A Wood are on file. In acceleration, in braking, in cornering power, in roadholding, in responsiveness to the controls, this Bentley is the equal of modern racing cars, and superior to some.' – Raymond Mays, The Autocar, 2nd October 1953.Described by The Autocar as, 'A new stage in the evolution of the post-war Bentley,' the magnificent Continental sports saloon has been synonymous with effortless high speed cruising in the grand manner since its introduction in 1952 on the R-Type chassis. Of all-welded construction, the latter enabled the incorporation of a much-needed improvement to Rolls-Royce's standard bodywork in the shape of an enlarged boot together with associated changes to rear wings and suspension. The standard R-Type was a lively performer, achieving 106mph in silence and reaching 50mph from standstill in 10 seconds despite a kerb weight approaching two tons. The Continental raised this already superlative combination of high performance and exceptional refinement to hitherto unattained levels. Unlike the ordinary 'standard steel' R-Type, the Continental was bodied in the traditional manner and first appeared with what many enthusiasts consider to be the model's definitive style of coachwork - the lightweight, aluminium, wind tunnel-developed fastback of H J Mulliner. In developing the Continental, Bentley Motors made every effort to keep its weight to the minimum, knowing that this was the most effective way to achieve the maximum possible performance. Rolls-Royce's six-cylinder, inlet-over-exhaust engine had been enlarged from 4,257cc to 4,556cc in 1951, and as installed in the Continental benefited from an increase in compression ratio - the maximum power output, of course, remained unquoted but has been estimated at around 153bhp. As the Continental matured, there was – inevitably – an increase in weight, which was offset by the introduction of a 4,887cc engine on the 'D' and 'E' series cars, commencing in May 1954. The Continental's performance figures would have been considered excellent for an out-and-out sports car, but for a full four/five seater saloon they were exceptional: a top speed of 120mph, 100mph achievable in third gear, 50mph reached in a little over 9 seconds, and effortless cruising at the 'ton'. Built for export only at first, the Continental was, once delivery charges and local taxes had been paid, almost certainly the most expensive car in the world as well as the fastest capable of carrying four adults and their luggage. 'The Bentley is a modern magic carpet which annihilates great distances and delivers the occupants well-nigh as fresh as when they started,' concluded Autocar. Chassis number 'BC59D' was completed in March 1955 and first owned by the Hon. Lady Hogg. The car's original registration was 'PYL 699' and it left the factory fitted with engine number 'BCD58'. Frank Dale & Stepsons added air conditioning at Mr Lee's request.From the contents of the history file we can see that the Continental was fully restored by renowned marque specialists P&A Wood during 2005-2007 for previous owner Rudolph Hahnenberger of Uppsala, Sweden and Harley Street, London, who had registered the car in 2003. There are numerous P&A Wood bills on file testifying to the extent of the rebuild and to Mr Hahnenberger's no-expense-spared approach to the project (inspection highly recommended). Stan West acquired the Continental for his collection in December 2009 and the car has continued to be maintained by P&A Wood. Related invoices are on file and the Bentley also comes with a quantity of expired MoTs and a V5C Registration Certificate. Presented in beautiful condition, 'BC59D' represents a rare opportunity to acquire a fine example of the most famous post-war Bentley benefiting from full restoration by the best in the business. The 944 was the third of Porsche's family of front-engined sports cars and had been launched in normally aspirated form in 1981; it was closely related to the first of the line - the 924 – and constructed along similar lines. Beneath the bodywork (50mm wider than the 924's) was a 2.5-litre, 163bhp overhead-camshaft 'four' - in effect half of the 928's V8 bored out - fitted with twin balancer shafts. The rear transaxle - a five-speed unit this time - was retained, while the 924-type running gear was suitably up-rated to cope with the 944's superior performance. In appearance the Turbo did not look that different from the original 944, Porsche limiting the styling revisions to a new front end and flush-fitting windscreen, changes which, together with a rear under-tray, brought about improved aerodynamics. The engine was strengthened to cope with the extra power generated by the KKK turbocharger and produced 220bhp – some 35% more than the un-blown unit – which was good enough for a top speed of over 150mph, matching the performance of the 3.2-litre 911 Carrera. Appropriate upgrades were made to the gearbox, differential, suspension, wheels and brakes while power-assisted steering and the 928-type instrumentation were standardised. 944 Turbo production ceased in 1991, by which time around 51,000 had been made.Offered here is a rare right-hand drive Turbo Cabriolet, delivered new in the UK via AFN Porsche (London) Ltd. It is estimated that only 100 such cars were supplied to the UK, with 87 believed to survive. The stamped service booklet and a detailed list of parts purchased for a restoration (carried out in 2015) testify to the fact that this car has been very well cared-for and has wanted for nothing. The last (major) service was carried out in July 2017 at 73,212 miles by Porsche Centre Solihull, with fewer than 200 miles covered since then. Prior to 1908, when it relocated to a new factory in Derby, the company founded by engineer Frederick Henry Royce and entrepreneur the Honourable Charles Stewart Rolls had manufactured a variety of models at its Manchester premises. Cars with two, three, four and six cylinders were made, and even an abortive V8, before Managing Director Claude Johnson's decision to concentrate on the range-topping 40/50hp. The latter had first appeared at the 1906 Motor Show and became known as the 'Silver Ghost' the following year when chassis number '60551' was exhibited wearing silver-painted tourer coachwork by Barker. The heart of the Silver Ghost was its magnificent engine, a 7,036cc (later 7,428cc) sidevalve six equipped with seven-bearing crankshaft and pressure lubrication. A sturdy chassis comprised of channel-section side members and tubular cross members was suspended on semi-elliptic springs at the front and a 'platform' leaf-spring arrangement at the rear, though the latter soon came in for revision. The transmission too was soon changed, a three-speed gearbox with direct-drive top gear replacing the original four-speed/overdrive top unit in 1909. In the course of its 20-year production life there would be countless other improvements to the car, one of the most important being the adoption of servo-assisted four-wheel brakes towards the end of 1923. After a successful 2,000-mile trial under RAC supervision, the factory demonstrator - chassis '60551', 'The Silver Ghost' - was entered in the Scottish Reliability Trial, completing the 15,000-mile run with flying colours to set a new World Record. From then on the car's reputation was assured, not the least in North America where the wide-open spaces placed a premium on reliability and comfort. Royce's uncompromising engineering standards demanded only excellence of his staff in Manchester and later Derby, and no chassis was delivered until it had been rigorously tested. The Silver Ghost remained in production in England until 1925 and at Rolls-Royce's Springfield plant in the USA until 1926, the longest production run of any model from that celebrated company. Cars were right-hand drive up to 1925 and left-hand drive thereafter. Unlike its British-built counterpart, the American product could be ordered with 'factory' bodywork, usually by Brewster, which would be taken over by Rolls-Royce in December 1925. Before Brewster's acquisition, bodies supplied under the 'Rolls-Royce Custom Coach Works' programme were built by various independent coachbuilders, while from 1923 some bodies were built in the company's own coachbuilding facility in the old Knox Automobile Co factory; the latter, though, was mainly employed in finishing bodies built by outside contractors to Rolls-Royce Custom Coach Works' designs. JFF 2Chassis no. 127/293*Rare four-wheel-drive Interceptor variant*Single family ownership since late 1971*Outstandingly original*Restored some 10 years ago*The best we have ever seenFootnotes:Star of the 1966 Motor Show, the Interceptor-based Jensen FF represented one of the first successful attempts to produce a four-wheel-drive passenger car. 'FF' stood for 'Ferguson Formula', a four-wheel drive system developed by the Harry Ferguson Research Company, which was also responsible for adapting the FF's Dunlop Maxaret anti-lock braking system for automotive use. The FF debuted alongside the new Interceptor and both models used the same basic chassis, running gear and 6,276cc Chrysler V8 engine inherited from the preceding C-V8. With 325bhp (SAE) and 425lb/ft of torque on tap, performance was more than adequate, The Motor recording a top speed of 140mph with 100mph arriving in 19 seconds. Leather upholstery, reclining front seats and walnut veneer were all standard features, while automatic transmission was the choice of almost all buyers (it was the only option for the FF). Mechanical changes to the FF kept abreast of those made to the Interceptor. Priced at 30% above the Interceptor, itself not a cheap car, the FF was the privilege of a wealthy few and when production ceased in 1972 only 320 had been made, 109 of which were to Mark II specification like that offered here. This quite exceptional Jensen FF has been owned by the vendor's family from nearly new, having been purchased by the vendor's father in late 1971 when six months old and with 1,500 miles on the odometer. By late 1982 the bodywork's condition had deteriorated and the car was returned to the Jensen factory for a body restoration and repaint. It is believed that the FF received new front wings, door skins, and rear quarters, while front and rear valances were fitted. The original numbered bonnet and upper tailgate have been retained, while the alloy wheels and brakes have been up-rated to Mark III specification with ventilated discs all round. When completed, the car was dry-stored for 25 years. In 2010 a partial restoration was undertaken, which mainly consisted of attention to the paintwork; a complete mechanical overhaul; and detailing the engine bay and underside using original components. The quality of the end result is quite breathtaking; quite simply, this is the best Jensen FF we have ever seen. The car has retained its original matching engine, gearbox, transfer box, and front and rear differentials. The black leather interior likewise is in excellent original condition, even retaining its original 8-track stereo in full working order!
