Sehr seltene unveröffentlichte handschriftliche Vorlesungsmitschriften von mineralogischen Vorlesungen, die der deutsche Mineraloge Gustav Rose, damals noch Juniorprofessor an der Universität in Berlin, im Winter 1828/1829 in Berlin gehalten hat und die während dieser Vorlesungen von dem Schüler ? G. Tidden geschrieben wurden. Ein ähnliches Manuskript befindet sich an der ETH Zürich im Nachlass von Arnold Escher von der Linth. Die Vorlesungen beginnen mit "Brennmaterialien", wie Steinkohle, dann geht es weiter mit Braunkohle, Torf, Metallen, Siderit, Blei, Kupfer, Zink, Silber, Gold, Platin, Antimonium, u.a. Wenige Monate später, 1829, wurde Gustav Rose zusammen mit Chr. G. The lectures begins with "Brennmaterialien", like black coal, then going on with brown coal, peat, metals, siderite, lead, copper, zinc, silver, gold, platin, antimonium, et al.A few months later in 1829, Gustav Rose along with Chr. Byrnes wegweisende Idee bestand darin, den Schülern das Erlernen der euklidischen Geometrie durch den Einsatz von Farben für die Diagramme zu erleichtern. Byrne's pioneering idea was to make it easier for pupils to learn Euclidean geometry by using colours for the diagrams. Er studierte Arithmetik und Astronomie im Selbststudium; seine Arithmeticae Logisticae, "zu Unrecht ignoriert" (Schärlig), ist vollständiger und reicher - nicht zuletzt wegen seiner unzähligen Beispiele - als viele der von ihm zitierten Quellen. J. H. Graf stellt in seiner Studie über Graffenried fest, dass es sich um das führende Werk zur Mathematik in Süddeutschland des frühen 17. Jahrhunderts handelt. "Und viele seiner Regeln sind auch eine Orginalität. Man darf also der Meinung sein, er sei mit Unrecht quasi unbekannt. Er hat (fast) alle damals vorhandene Bücher fleißig studiert. Die Geometrica Organica ist Isaac Newton gewidmet, den MacLaurin, ein Schotte, kennen gelernt hatte. Die Schrift befasst sich mit den Koniken und den Kurven höherer Ebenen. Sie liefert Beweise für wichtige von Newton beschriebene Theoreme, ohne Beweise, sowie einige von MacLaurins eigenen Theoremen. Maclaurin (1698-1746) war ein britischer Mathematiker. 1719 besuchte er London, wo er Isaac Newton traf und in die Royal Society aufgenommen wurde. Ab 1726 wurde er mit einer Empfehlung von Newton Professor in Edinburgh, wo er den Rest seiner Karriere blieb. 1740 erhielt er erneut den Preis der Academie des Sciences (gemeinsam mit Euler und Daniel Bernoulli) mit einer Arbeit über Gezeiten. No copy currently available for us in international trade, only 5 copies at auctions since 1945. - The Geometrica Organica is dedicated to Isaac Newton, whom MacLaurin, a Scot, had met, and deals with the conics and curves of higher levels. It provides proofs for important theorems described by Newton, without proofs, and some of MacLaurin's own theorems. Maclaurin (1698-1746) was a British mathematician.1719 he visited London, where he met Isaac Newton and was accepted into the Royal Society. From 1726 he became professor in Edinburgh, where he stayed for the rest of his career, recommended by Newton. 1740 he again won the prize of the Academie des Sciences (together with Euler and Daniel Bernoulli) with a work about tides. He was the inventor of the Trisektrix series, named after him, and of the Maclaurin series, named after him (in his treatise on fluxions), which is only a special case of the Taylor series (Maclaurin also refers to Taylor). He was also involved in the development of the Euler-Maclaurin formula (which appeared in his Treatise) and established the Maclaurin inequality. Ornithologie - - Johann Georg Wilhelm Brandt (zugeschr.). Pitta strepitans Cuv., Neu Holland. Um 1840. Aquarelle, Gouache und Feder auf Velin, in Weiß und Eiweiß gehöht. Blattmaße 40 x 26,5 cm. Seltene und sehr schöne Originalzeichnung einer Lärmpitta, die durch einen Brief einem frühen Nachfahren der Familie Brandt zugeschrieben wird: W. Brandt mit einem naturhistorischen Geschäft in Hamburg, also höchstwahrscheinlich: Johann Georg Wilhelm Brandt oder dessen Sohn, der das Geschäft übernahm. Die Lärmpitta ist eine Vogelart aus der Familie der Pittidae und kommt im östlichen Australien und südlichen Neuguinea vor. William John Swainson beschrieb sie im Jahr 1825 anhand eines in New South Wales gesammelten Exemplars. Der spezifische Name, versicolor, ist lateinisch für vielfarbig. The noisy pitta (Pitta versicolor) is a species of bird in the family Pittidae and is found in eastern Australia and southern New Guinea. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. William John Swainson described the noisy pitta in 1825 based on a specimen collected in New South Wales. The specific name, versicolor is latin for multicoloured.
