REEL: Rare Hardy Perfect 2.5" all brass trout fishing reel, with Rod in Hand, straight line and oval logos to winding plate, correct white handle, strapped tension regulator, waisted smooth brass foot, calliper check with ball bearings, nickel pillars, factory fitted line guide to one, fine.
REEL & CASE: (2) Rare Hardy Perfect 3.75" wide drum alloy salmon reel with 1912 check, white handle, maker`s central circular logo to winding plate, strapped tension regulator with Turks lock screw, correct smooth brass foot stamped "England", central single rivet fixing, large/small holes to spool face, good, in C Farlow 191 Strand London red baize lined fitted block leather case.
CASED FISH: fine Perch by Cooper Radnor St., London in glazed gilt lined bow front case, 23"x15"x7", blue back drop, fully reeded over gravel base, Cooper label to inner top left, gilt text reads "Perch- caught by F. Price, Hampshire gravel pit March 11th. 1911, weight 4lb 4oz", fine rare specimen.
HARDY WOOD CARVED 45LB SALMON, ROD AND FLIES: A fine and rare Hardy ¾ block carved wood salmon of 45lbs, naturalistically painted, mounted on original wood backboard, Hardy Bros ivorine makers plaque to front lower left, further plaque to lower right reads "Stepping Stone Pole, Inver awe, River Awe, June9th 1934, Weight 45 lbs, length 48 inches, Girth 33 inches", back board measures 54" x19" Formerly the property of Mr Charles Herbert Rush (1900-1982) and includes 5 shadow glazed frames containing a selection of mounted gut and steel eyes salmon flies in single and double hook patterns, sizes 1" –2.75", each frame hand written to rear "Salmon Flies by Hardy Bros-used by the late Charles rush 1900-1982" and further, a P.D. Malloch of Perth 15` 3 piece with spare tip greenheart salmon fly rod, whipped green snake guides, brass fittings, ferrules and engraved butt cap, fine with makers original cloth bag. Note: Few ¾ block Hardy carved wood salmon ever seen, this 45 lb fish with the related ephemera makes an excellent investment for the collector.
REEL: Extremely rare un catalogued experimental? Coxon Aerial reel, 4" diameter with alloy narrow drum, 6 spoke with tension regulator, twin tapered horn handles, riveted through underside of face plate, slotted central drum core, mahogany backplate, small chip to inner rim adjacent to brass line guide, brass star back stamped "Patent" to foot return, ratchet check knob to internal calliper spring, fine throughout. Note: The spool is similar in many ways to both Wadham Engineering and that of the Hardy Improved Ocean reel, experiment or export, no backplate inner lining as in the Improved Coxon, so perhaps between both models, rare item.
REEL: Rare early Haywood Maker large brass collar fitting winch, 2.75" diameter, 2.6" across plates, "Haywood Maker" stamped to face plate, serpent crank arm, turned bone handle, triple pillar with external lock nuts, block foot with original perforated collar and lyre screw, retaining all original finish.
REEL: Rare Abu Ambassadeur Morrum model ZX 3601 Nordic multiplier reel, in machined high tech alloy, special edition, foot stamp 190019/23, with gold/silver alloy handle lock screws, superfine drag adjustment, one piece frame with line guide, rear thumb bar, superb reel, unused, c/w handbooks, warranty, drawstring bag and MOB.
REEL: Rare Hardy Brass face 4.5" alloy salmon perfect fly reel, 1906 calliper check, strapped tension regulator with Turks lock screw, white handle, rod in Hand & straight line logos, smooth brass foot, dished face with 2 rows of small perforations, retains most original dark lead finish to frame and spool.
The following 10 lots from perhaps the best collection of important early, mainly London & other maker`s, rods to have come to the market. ROD: Ex rare Ustonson Makers to His Majesty Temple Bar London, 4 piece valise travel rod, sections approx 27" long, the butt with swollen handle, pinned front brass collar, hand made reel rings over recessed reel seat, fully engraved butt cap, brass ferrules, top 3 sections black washed, the rod lacks rings but due to its rarity and importance is worthy of refurbishment. Onesimus Ustonson c1760-1855 is the first fully researched London maker with Royal warrant, few of his reels are ever seen and even fewer rods have came to the market, to our knowledge this is the only Ustonson valise rod in existence outside the example held in Kew Palace forming part of the King George 1V fishing tackle outfit. ROD: Rare Chevalier 12 Bell Yard Temple Bar 18` 4 piece with correct spare tip ash/greenheart drop ring rod, 1817-1853, tapered black ash butt with pinned collar, fixed and sliding hand formed brass reel rings, engraved butt cap, all hot lacquer finish, drop rings whipped black, brass tube pinned ferrules, copper wire whipped tie loops, fine condition throughout.
ROD: Extremely rare Alfred Maker 11 Moorgate St., London 18` 4 piece ash/greenheart drop ring rod, 1849-1876, pinned brass tube reel seat with fixed and sliding reel rings, unusually this rod has 2 reel seats opposing (the reel being reversed to take a set from the rod), engraved butt cap, hot lacquer finished, brass spigot male ferrules, blackened brass female ferrules, copper tie loops and beautifully turned ivory and brass stoppers, black whipped drop rings throughout, fine.
ROD: Extremely rare Blacker Maker 54 Dean St., Soho London, 1842-1857 (author of The Art of Angling 1842), 11`6" 5 piece hickory/greenheart fly rod with decorative solid German silver reel seat, scroll engraved to both collars and butt cap, threaded removable base with storage for spare tip internally, nickel male spigot ferrules, early fold over bridge guides whipped burgundy, brass female ferrules, 1 stopper remaining, 1 tip ring requires replacement, fine.
ROD: Extremely rare Chas Farlow Maker 191 Strand 1852-1884, 11`6" 3 piece presentation fly rod with mahogany/black ash strip tapered continental style butt, German silver reel seat, in sized rings, engraved "WW" and maker`s address details, red agate butt/tip guides, early bronze snake intermediates close whipped black, bronze shoulder ferrules, butt cap and red button, fine, in cloth bag.
ROD: Extremely rare WJ Cummins Bishop Auckland "The Anglo American", 17` 3 piece + correct spare tip, c1880 spliced split cane and cedar fly rod, nickel on brass tube reel seat, fully engraved butt cap, swollen cedar handle, bronze snake guides heavily close whipped burgundy silk, nickel stud lock fittings stamped "Patent", both retaining the original cover caps, nickel plated copper lined end rings, fine throughout, never seen another, c/w bamboo tip tube.
