Rare WW1 German M1860/98 Conversion Bayonet, being a period conversion with a M1860 fusilier blade in a model 98/05 mauser bayonet hilt. Blade with makers details of W Clauberg Solingen. Issue stampings to the blade and the hilt. Some pitting and wear but a scarce conversion bayonet. The blade measures 50 ½ cms, overall 64cms. See ‘German Bayonets Vol IV’ by Carter.

Rare Battle of Britain Period Luftwaffe Schwimmweste (Life Preserver), good example of a yellow rubberised canvas cloth with cloth tie straps and metal rings. This is the early full back type which was favoured by both Luftwaffe and RAF pilots who used captured examples as they believed they were of superior quality to the Air Ministry issue examples. Complete with the original inflation tube and brass oxygen bottle to the lower section. The interior has the original issue label with stamping for ‘SWp 734’, ‘Fl 30154’ and dated 1.10.39 (1st October 1939). Some light wear and fading but generally a very good example of a desirable item of Luftwaffe equipment.

A Rare North Eastern Railway Centre St Johns Ambulance Association Hallmarked Silver Medallion in Recognition of First Aid Services Rendered During the Bombardment of the Hartlepools, 16th December 1914, Reverse of medal engraved with the name “REGINALD H SANDERSON”. Good condition. At 08.10am on 16th December 1914 the town of Hartlepool was bombarded by the German ships Sedlitz, Blucher and Moltke. BY 8.50am the ships departed having fired 1,150 shells causing damage to the steelworks, gasworks, railways, 7 churches and 300 houses. 86 civilians were killed and 423 wounded (although some sources give higher numbers) as well as 7 soldiers being killed and 14 injured.

Rare Imperial German Bavarian M1869/98 Conversion Bayonet, interesting example being a WW1 conversion using a blade from a M1869 Bavarian Werder rifle bayonet fitted to a Mauser Model 1898 hilt. Acceptance stamps to the reverse of the hilt. Blade edge stamped ‘3’. Remains in generally good condition with just some surface pitting and evidence of cleaning. No scabbard. Blade 46 ¾ cms, overall 60 cms.

Some light stains but generally a very good example of a scarce flag. Measures 167 x 110cms.

Rare North Hants Yeomanry Officers Bell Top Shako Circa 1832, superb example of a large bell top style beaver body shako with superb gilt metal offcers shako plate. The plate being a large gilt metal crowned maltese cross with silver facetted centre sections to the arms, the centre of the plate having silvered Hampshire rose with around ‘NORTH HANTS YEOMANRY’. Thick brocade lace to the top of the shako and golden cap lines. White metal circular chin scale side bosses with Hampshire rose to the centre and velvet backed scaled chinstraps. Shako retains the original tan leather sweatband to the interior. Overall a superb example of an early piece of regimental headdress. Very few of these shako’s have survived in private hands. Rare WW1 German War Wounded Hospital Gas Mask, the very rare hood gas mask in its original container used for when wounded soldiers were taken to dressing stations in the event of a gas attack. The hood gas mask, manufactured in rubberised linen with two eyepieces and an aperture for screw in filter is rather shredded, attached to the mask is an old museum label, which reads ‘German gas helmet brought from France by Colonel’ with name indecipherable, with further wording ‘AA & QMG 7th Div gave to me January 1917’ with signature. The mask comes with an associated metal storage tin for this type of mask, but the red cross emblem has worn away. This mask formed part of the late Michael Baldwin collection and was sold by C&T Auctioneers on 23rd May 2018 as part of his collection. The item was lot 260, at this time it was sold with a different tin to what it is now being offered. The mask is featured in the reference book ‘Feldzug 1918’ by Michael Baldwin.

Rare Third Reich Diplomatic Officials Dress Dagger by Alcoso, Solingen, untouched as found example of the rare Diplomatic service dress dagger, designed the same as the government officials dress dagger but the eagles head on the cross guard faces the opposite way to the pommel. Dagger with mother of pearl grips. Plating to the grip and eagle head pommel is worn revealing some of the brass base metal. Cross guard remains in generally good condition. Housed in the original scabbard with two hanging rings, the ring bands of oakleaves relief. Double edged plain blade with makers trademark to the reverse. The blade has some spotting and finger staining. Blade measures 25 ¾ cms, overall 39 ½ cms. The dagger is a good example overall of one of the rarest dress daggers of the Third Reich.

Rare Hampshire Artillery Militia Officers Helmet 1854-56, fine example of the very short lived leather officers dress helmet with large two piece helmet plate to the centre. The plate being Victorian crowned shield with gilt metal flaming grenade with silvered VR cipher to the centre and crossed cannons below, laurel spray with scroll ‘HAMPSHIRE’. Complete with rosette side bosses with velvet backed linked chin chains. White metal rear spine, cruciform spike base with plume socket having the Hampshire rose to the centre. Complete with white horse hair plume with plain domed fitting to the top. Complete with officers quilted lining to the interior. ‘Andrews Helmet Maker’ paper label to the interior of the shell. Rare Imperial German Hesse Lieb-Garde Infanterie Regiment Nr 115 (1. Grossherzog-Hessisches) Other Ranks Pickelhaube, leather bodied other ranks pickelhaube with white metal helmet plate for the state of Hesse with the starburst to the centre with ‘GOTT EHRE VATER-LAND’. Above the plate and under the spike base is the ribbon scroll plate with date ‘1621’. White metal Hessian pattern cruciform cross base with plain domed rivets and removable Hesse fluted spike. Helmet is complete with original Reichs pattern cockade and Hesse ribbon style state cockade. Original other ranks leather chinstrap to the helmet. White metal rear spine with vent and front trim still present. Remains of ink issue stampings to the rear peak. The helmet retains its original dry leather liner system which has cracked in places. The shell of the helmet shows wear and has some cracks and a small split, possibly due to the weight of the fittings which is a common issue with helmets from this regiment. One of the rarest Imperial German helmets from the state of Hesse. Late Gordon Anderson collection

Rare Great War Hartlepool Special Constabulary Double Long Service Medal Group of Three, consisting of Borough of Hartlepool Special Constabulary medal for service in the Great War, engraved naming, “JOHN TREES”, Special Constabulary Long Service medal, GV, 1st type with clasp ‘Long Service 1929’, impressed “JOHN TREES”, Volunteer Force Long Service medal, EVII, impressed naming “985 SJT. J TREES 4TH DURHAM R.G.A.V.” Group mounted as worn. First medal is rare with only 116 being issued to members of the Hartlepool Special Constabulary for their services during the Great War. Volunteer Long Service meal in confirmed in Army Order of July 1904. A rare combination of awards.

The eagle is sitting upon a globe with flames coming out of and across the centre, ‘DEUTSCHLAND LAGER JULI-AUGUST 1935 WELTTREFFEN.D.HJ’. Reverse with pin and catch fixing.

Rare WW2 German Waffen-SS Officers Soldbuch, fine example issued to SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer Dr Alfred Hiwzich. The cover with SS runes to the centre. Inside front cover has fine uniform photograph. He was promoted through various officer ranks until last promotion on 20th April 1944. Book was issued on 8th February 1940. He served at various medical institutions including SS Hospital at Bad Nauheim. He was awarded the War Service Cross 2nd class with swords in 1944. The book is well filled out with various entries, stamps and signatures. Accompanied by a large format photograph of the recipient wearing Waffen-SS officers uniform with peaked cap. Superb example and very rare to find Waffen-SS soldbuchs to officers.

Rare WW2 Royal Observer Corps Kodak Haze Screen, the wooden handheld screen with three sections of coloured glass to the centre. Frame is stamped ‘KODAK HAZE SCREEN FOR AERIAL OBSERVATION KODAK LTD LONDON, MADE IN ENGLAND’. Much of the blackened stain finish remains to the woodwork. Many photographs exist of these items being used by members of the Royal Observer Corps.

Superb WW2 German Insignia Factory Sample Book with Kriegsmarine Trade & Proficiency Badges, the large folder with pull out sleeves of various Kriegsmarine trade badges was for the factory Gebrüder Aurnhammer in Weissenburg, Bavaria. The various trade / proficiency badges include various naval Flieger (flying) trades, signallers, mechanics, musicians, the three grades of divers badges including the rare example for U-Boats, etc. Examples are yellow on blue, red on blue and blue on white types. All fitted to the album page with a number and a brief title description in German underneath. The last page also has a Kriegsmarine tunic breast eagle. A very interesting item for any Kriegsmarine or cloth insignia collector. 91 items of insignia in total.
