063 - - Galya Feiermann. Nevada Landing (Burning Man). 2007. Inkjet auf Hahnemühle pearl. 1/3 + AP. 40x60 cm. Aludibond, kaschiert hinter Acryl, signiert. The rare moments of rain in bright sun add to the euphoria, as an art vehicle passes through the outskirts of Black Rock City, Nevada. The spirit of American myth situates perfectly in the western desert landscape. The experience of Burning Man Festival and the cross-country road trips to arrive there in the early 2000s were very formative to the photographer Galya Feierman in learning the flight of imagination, freedom and collective work. - Galya is a photographer from New York, currently living in Berlin. She is searching for feelings between cities and people and the myth that speaks them. Her photography mostly features creative individuals in relation to a metropolis. In this case, the temporary metropolis is left unseen, only the desert that hosts it.

The Dalmore 40 year old 1x70cl The Dalmore is a 'triple-matured' 40-year-old single malt, to celebrate master distiller Richard Paterson's 50th anniversary in the whisky industry. Matured in ex-bourbon casks before spending seven years in sherry butts used to age González Byass' 30-year-old Matusalem Oloroso, and finally returned once again to first-fill ex-bourbon barrels. It is presented in a decanter designed by French crystal house Baccarat, featuring Dalmore's 12-point Royal Stag emblem. Richard Paterson believes he has created something 'very special indeed'. 'It has been a great privilege to release two of our greatest ever aged expressions - first the Champagne-finished 50-year-old and now this exceptional 40,' he said. 'It takes time, effort and vision to create an expression as complex as the Dalmore 40, moving the rare stocks of whisky between casks to build layer upon layer of character.' Up to 750 bottles of Dalmore 40 will be released over the next four years through selected specialist whisky retailers.

Hans Rossbach complete collection of 80 Luftwaffe commemorative covers. We have just acquired a complete set of the Hans Rossbach Luftwaffe aces collection. It is the first complete set I have seen in over five years and is exceptionally rare. This is quite an incredible set of covers with over 270 signature of top Luftwaffe VIP's. It would be a great shame to break up these wonderful collectors' items so we would like to sell it complete. It took Hans over three years to assemble back in the 1970's. He personally visited all aces including great names like Willy Messerschmitt, Werner Von Braun, Herman Oberth, Albert Speer, Erich Hartmann, Adolf Galland, Gerd Barkhorn plus many more. There is even a cover signed by five members of Richthofen's original flying circus. Many of the individual covers are now worth well over £200 with the Von Braun and Messerschmitt now worth £1500. Other rare signatures include Rudel Batz, Hanna Reich, Hans Baur (Hitlers pilot), Matoni, Skorzaney, Kurt Tank. Rare John Hannah VC WW2 signed RAF dinner menu on 20 Mar 1941, with well-researched provenance. John Hannah VC, Rob Learoyd VC signed RAF Dinner menu. Signed in ink to reverse of the printed typed menu with RAF logo. Hannah's signature is much scarcer than Guy Gibson's and an early Learoyd signature is rare; and rarer still having both on the same menu for an important RAF event. John Hannah VC - On 15 September 1940 over Antwerp, Belgium, after a successful attack on German barges, the Handley Page Hampden bomber (serial P1355) in which Sergeant Hannah was wireless operator/air gunner, was subjected to intense anti-aircraft fire, starting a fire which spread quickly. The rear gunner and navigator had to bail out and Sergeant Hannah could have acted likewise, but instead he remained to fight the fire, first with two extinguishers and then with his bare hands. He sustained terrible injuries, but succeeded in putting out the fire and the pilot was able to bring the almost wrecked aircraft back safely. The Canadian pilot of the aircraft, Flying Officer Clare Connor, recommended Hannah receive the Victoria Cross. Connor himself was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. King George VI presented the decorations to Hannah and Connor at an investiture in Buckingham Palace. Eighteen years old at the time of his Victoria Cross action, Hannah was the youngest recipient of the medal for aerial operations and the youngest for the Second World War. Flight Lieutenant Roderick Alastair Brook Learoyd VC - This officer, as first pilot of a Hampden aircraft, has repeatedly shown the highest conception of his duty and complete indifference to personal danger in making attacks at the lowest altitudes regardless of opposition. On the night of 12th August 1940, he was detailed to attack a special objective on the Dortmund Ems Canal. He had attacked this objective on a previous occasion and was well aware of the risks entailed. To achieve success it was necessary to approach from a direction well known to the enemy, through a lane of especially disposed anti-aircraft defences, and in the face of the most intense point-blank fire from guns of all calibres. The reception of the preceding aircraft might well have deterred the stoutest heart, all being hit and two lost. Flight Lieutenant Learoyd nevertheless made his attack at 150 feet, his aircraft being repeatedly hit and large pieces of the main plane torn away. He was almost blinded by the glare of many searchlights at close range, but pressed home this attack with the greatest resolution and skill. He subsequently brought his wrecked aircraft home and, as the landing flaps were inoperative and the undercarriage indicators out of action, waited for dawn in the vicinity of his aerodrome before landing, which he accomplished without causing injury to his crew or further damage to the aircraft. The high courage, skill and determination, which this officer has invariably displayed on many occasions in the face of the enemy sets an example which is unsurpassed. Condition 8/10. He began his illustrious career as a foreign correspondent for Chicago Daily News and was dispatched to Paris in 1914. There he reported on events throughout the First World War, often sending riveting reports from the front-lines. By spring 1915 Mowrer was sent to cover events in Italy. He made personal acquaintance with Benito Mussolini and reported on devastating events at the battle at Caporetto. As a journalist Mowrer often sounded alarms about growing threats of rising fascism in Italy. In January 1924 Mowrer moved to Berlin where he worked with a distinguished group of correspondents, such as Herbert Knickerbocker, Dorothy Thompson, Walter Durranty and Eugene Lyons - who elected him president of the Foreign Press Association. He later remembered that: 'Berlin in the nineteen twenties was a kind of stopping off place not only for Russians heading West, but for the Americans entering or leaving the Soviet Union, including those who lived there and needed occasionally to come up for air.' No doubt that cosmopolitan group of friends with ties to the Soviet Union to some degree triggered Mowrer's fascination with socialist state which a decade later culminated in a long trip to Moscow and Leningrad. In Berlin Mowrer watched with growing concerns the growth of fascism in Germany as well as a consolidation of political power under Stalin in the Soviet Union. His unapologetic opposition to fascism expressed in articles and a book won him the highly acclaimed Pulitzer Prize in 1933 and essentially made him 'persona non grata' with regime in Germany after Hitler took office. In 1936 driven by his journalistic curiosity and sensing the inevitable escalation of the tensions in Europe, Mowrer and his wife embarked on a month-long trip to Moscow and Leningrad. It is believed that the present porcelain chess set was acquired during that trip. Given Mowrer's distrust of all totalitarian regimes and his critique of the Soviet system, he must have found this chess set to be a curious and rare examples of unapologetic socialist propaganda and a precious travel souvenir to cherish later on.Upon his return to the USA Mowrer continued his journalistic career both as columnist and later as a TV commentator and magazines editor, as well as the author of several critically claimed books on foreign affairs, future of diplomacy and global political balance. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: ** VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
