Forster (Edward Morgan) Howard`s End first edition signed presentation copy half-title 12pp. advertisements at end (final 7pp. numbered 2-8) endpapers browned some spotting mostly to first c.75pp. heavier to first c.25pp. and pp.58-71 original dark red cloth gilt spine very slightly faded a very little fraying to foot of spine rubbed at extremities [Kirkpatrick A4] 8vo 1910. *** Signed copies of this work are incredibly rare. We can trace only two others at auction in the last 25 years. The inscription reads `Mr. Dakyns from E.M.F. 18/10/10`. Our copy seems to be a scarce variant with 12pp. of advertisements which list both the first and second impressions of Mary J.H. Skrine`s A Stepson of the Soil 1910. Provenance: Henry Graham Dakyns or his younger son Arthur Lindsay Dakyns (presentation inscription on front free endpaper); and by descent through the family. Forster was a frequent guest at the Dakyns` home in Higher Coombe Haselmere Surrey. The bulk of the Henry Graham Dakyns papers are deposited in the Beinecke Library at Yale University.

Bullen Reymes (1613-1672) army officer MP for Weymouth colleague (and friend) of Pepys on the Fishery Corporation and the Tangier Committee and friend of John Evelyn Sir William Coventry Lord Clifford and Sir Charles Cotterell or his son Bullen Reymes.

Facsimile of first half of Einstein`s famous letter to President Roosevelt about the possibility of developin an atomic bomb in 1939 browned and slightly stained signed by Einstein n.d. (2). Large photograph of Einstein taken in 1940 inscribed to “Frau Fried” with two other words signed by Einstein. (3). Autograph poem signed in German to Fried thanking her for her help in a difficult task signed and dated 1941. *** Autograph poetry by Einstein is exceedingly rare. Part of the text of Einstein`s famous letter to Roosevelt about the atomic bomb concerning the element uranium in the production of energy and as a component in a nuclear bomb. Dr. Erdita Fried was a noted psychologist like Einstein an émigré to America and the two items presented to her from Einstein were for thanks in assisting him in composing letters in English relating to the atomic bomb. Fried was not specific about the assistance she rendered to Einstein other than that it pertained to matters relating to the 1939 letter. The poem reads in translation: “If a thing is horribly urgent This will cause one torment Unless one is fast assisted And thus can give it birth. You have helped me though late it was and night Quickly and with brightness. You have done it masterfully Thank you noble Maiden.”

Croll was an exponent of Paracelsus. The work is divided into three parts (a preface on the doctrines of Paracelsus the main treatise on pharmacy and therapeutics and a treatise on signatures) and describes individual preparations and their applications in great detail.

HRH Princess Louisa Duchess of Connaught and Strathearn - rare Royal silver gilt coronet made by Garrard & Co for Her Royal Highness for the coronation of King George V comprised of a silver gilt circlet of interspersed crosses and strawberry leaves (two missing), chased with jewels with Royal purple velvet cap with gold bullion tassel and white and black spotted ermine headband and white silk lining contained in its original Garrard & Co leather case with silk lining and sliding pad with ring handle and brass plaque engraved HRH The Duchess of Connaught Coronet (hallmarked London 1911) Princess Louisa was a German Princess born in Potsdam in 1860. She married Queen Victoria`s youngest son Prince Arthur Duke of Connaught and Strathearn in 1879. Throughout their married life she accompanied her husband on many official duties in all parts of the Empire and was Viceregal Consort of Canada from 1911-1916. They lived at Bagshot Park, Surrey (currently the home of HRH Prince Edward, Duke of York) and Clarence House, London where the Duchess died prematurely at the age of 57 from influenza on 14th March 1917. She was the first member of the Royal family to be cremated and her ashes are interred at the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore
