Card game.- Bewick (Thomas) [A Money Counting Game], 34 pasteboard cards from 17 pairs only (of ?), wood-engraved illustrations after Bewick, 6 cards with manuscript numerical lists, c.5 x 7.5 cm, c.1800.⁂ A rare education game, not in Gumuchian, and apparently unrecorded. A photocopy of the rules is provided.
Mexico.- Lopez de Gomara (Francisco) The Pleasant Historie of the Conquest of the West India, now called Spaine. Atchieved by the most woorthie Prince Hernando Cortes, second edition in English, largely printed in black letter, woodcut device to title, woodcut initials, title and final leaf in facsimile, heavily silked original title bound at end, P4 inserted from a different copy and partially in facsimile, 2X3 loosely inserted from a different copy, tender edges (a2-4 strengthened), several leaves strengthened at inner hinge, 3G1 trimmed with marginal loss (restored), occasional staining and marginal water-staining, 1 or 2 small marginal holes or loss, new endpapers, contemporary calf, rebacked, [Sabin 27752], sm. 4to, Thomas Creede, 1596.⁂ Rare and important work on the conquest of Mexico by Cortes's secretary and private chaplain, translated from Spanish into English by Thomas Nicholls and with a dedication to Sir Francis Walsingham, Queen Elizbeth's principal secretary and 'spymaster.' Because of Lopez de Gomara's privileged position, he had access to many documents which subsequently disappeared, making this work one of the fullest and most detailed contemporary accounts of the destruction of the Aztec Empire. This is a reissue of the 1578 first edition in English.

USTC records only three copies (Austrian Nat. Lib., L'Arsénal and All Souls (Codrington)).

Early 20th Century American Photography Interest George Swain (American, 1866 - 1947) A Rare Collection Of Botanical Photographic Slides Hinged slidebox with plaque to lid marked 'CENCO' Central Scientific Co Laboratory Apparatus, Supplier Of Chemicals, Chicago U.S.A'. Containing 29, 10 x 8 inch hand coloured glass slides. Produced in the early 20th century during Swain's long tenure as University Of Michigan's official photographer; each slide depicts an example of the rare flora and fauna of Michigan and the Midwest USA. Fifteen slides bear paper labels with handwritten annotations, titles to include, 'LF6.16 -7171 Lupine Habitat' 'Bog Douglas L' 'Showy Orchid' 'Yellow Orchid' 'Twin Flower' 'Cardinal Nest On Honey Locust' 'Guttation' 'Spring Beauties, Mich' 'Trillium Grandiflorum' 'On Douglas Lake' 'On Lake Arbutus' 'Hawthorne W.Va.' A further 13 slides are untitled, bearing small oval paper labels - possibly with numbers, now faded. One slide bearing printed paper label marked 'Made By G.R. Swain, University Of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Subjects to include, Erythronium americanum, Dryopteris, Paeonia etc. All slides in good condition - two with very minor cracks, please see accompanying image. Catalogue Note George R. Swain was born Born in Meredith, New Hampshire, USA in 1866, he moved to California in 1888 where he passed a county teachers examination and taught for seven years in ungraded country schools. In 1897 he was awarded a degree from the University Of Michigan and gained a Master's degree from the same institution in 1900. Swain was appointed official University Photographer at the University Of Michigan in 1913, where he began work on various educational and botanical photography projects over the next 34 years. Swain made four trips to Europe making photographic records of valued manuscripts for the University collection. A keen writer, botanist and ecologist; in 1924 he participated in the university expedition to Antioch, in 1925 and 1926 he visited Italy, Greece, Mount. Athos and Patmos and worked with the Franco-American committee in Tunisia and Algeria.
The Lakenheath Shield. A Stunning and Rare example of a Bronze Age Yetholm type copper alloy shield, circa 1300 B.C. to 975 B.C. The circular shield hammered to create a disc with a rolled forward rim onto the front face of the shield, the prominent central boss with three rings of smaller domed shaped bosses, 60cm diameter. The shield was discovered in 2015 near Lakenheath in the county of Suffolk by a metal detectorist, the shield has gone to the Portable Antiquities Scheme and registered. The shield as of January 2019 is only the 27th example ever found

A rare Lladro porcelain copy of the FIFA World Cup, together with a photograph of England?s most capped player, Peter Shilton, holding the trophy and a signed note of authenticity inscribed, ?I hope you enjoy my only world cup! Best, Peter Shilton.? 35cm high. Provenance: Presented to Peter Shilton by the Spanish FA during the 1982 World Cup in Spain, FIFA commissioned the current world cup after Brazil were awarded the original Jules Rimet Trophy in 1970 for winning the competition for a record third time. The new trophy was designed by Italian sculptor Silvio Gazzaniga, who later designed the current UEFA Cup. The world-renowned Spanish porcelain manufacturer Lladro, in association with Sport Billy productions, were commissioned to make a limited number of presentation copies for the 1982 world cup. The Lladro porcelain copies were never on sale to the public and do not appear in the general Lladro reference book. For another example refer to Christie?s auction, London 15th November 2006, which sold for £4,200.

A Derby tapering cylindrical jug, pattern 119, the apricot ground border reserved with a deep band of gilt tears within a Vandyke border the rim gilt with linked ovals enclosed by gilt lines, 7.5cm high, crown, crossed batons and D mark, inscribed Duesbury Derby mark in puce, c.1795 This is a rare and unusual mark.
