A modern reproduction of the `Lanark Silver Bell` Hamilton & Inches, Edinburgh 1975, the conventionally shaped bell with closed base, with cast foliate decorative suspender and loop suspension, the body engraved with coat of arms of Lanark and to reverse `Replica of Lanark Silver Bell, won by`, the whole suspended from an open work frame with curved supports with trefoil terminals, on a spreading circular base 21.5cm high, 24oz Notes; the original Lanark bell was originally run for circa 1608 - 1611 and was made in Edinburgh by Hugh Lindsay. It now forms part of the rare early survival of Scottish sporting prizes and is the earliest Scottish horse racing trophy known. it now sits on a stand which supports around its rim medals dating from 1628 - 1977.
Burma. Japanese Occupation. 1943 3ct Farmer on laid paper, unused block of 25 (missing corner piece of selvedge by R1/1) remarkably showing the whole watermark ‘HERTFORDSHIRE/LEDGER/ MADE IN ENGLAND’. This is presumably the piece referred to in SG’s Part 1 footnote below J81; ‘… a block of 25 is known… Examples showing parts of these sheet watermarks are rare.’
IFS.Rajasthan. 1948-9 piece with three examples of the 1a yellow-green handstamped in blue, and a 4a handstamped in violet. Some gum-soaked perf tips and the 4a has a little stray blue ink on the face which matches the ink of the 1a handstamps. Cancels indistinct but a rare piece. SG 3C, 5B (£400)/CW 16, 11
IFS.Rajasthan. Kishangarh 1913-6 2a purple and 1943-7 1a deep violet-blue with red handstamps (the latter issued for revenue purposes) on part native envelope (reduced at right) to Arain, each cancelled by ‘RAJPOST SARUNJ/KISHANGARH’. The 1a is defective at top, as the 2012 BPA Certificate points out, but this is a very rare item. See footnote after SG 65
Leeward Islands. 1942 (March) 10/- pale green and pale red on green paper, an unmounted mint block of four with the top right stamp showing the major Frame Plate #44 flaw, damage to ‘TEN SHILLINGS’ and right value tablet. Eric Yendall rates this alongside the Bermuda £1 joined ‘ER’ and ‘White Island’ flaws as the only major frame flaws. South Africa. 1913-20 6d and 2/6d values, each overprinted ‘SPECIMEN’ in blue and with part strike of ‘COLONIE du GABON et du CONGO FRANCAISE/1er BUREAU/DIRECTION de L’INTERIEUR’ receiving handstamp. South Africa. 1927 1d black and carmine perf 13½ x 14, marginal block of two tête-bêche pairs, mint; hinged on selvedge only. One pair with a black mark on reverse which seems to be printer’s ink, notwithstanding this a fine and rare multiple, a fitting companion for the ½d block. SG 31da (£2600)

South Africa. 1933-6 Voortrekker Memorial Fund set of 4 pairs, each handstamped ‘SPECIMEN’ in violet 14½ x 1mm. Affixed to grey card with printed trilingual text; ‘Specimens. These stamps are produced in rolls and sheets on our rotary postage stamp printing machines working on the photogravure printing process in one operation. Goebel A.G Darmstadt’. Also on the card is a pair of ½d Springbok similarly overprinted, and a pair of the ship 1d with an ink line across. Facing paper on front with ink ‘N7- Suid Africa’ in pen. Also a horizontal pair of the ½d and a vertical pair of the 1d Voortrekker with the same violet ‘SPECIMEN’ handstamp. Undoubtedly rare. SG 50-3
