About very fine, very rare £200-£300 --- This medal is recorded in a letter by Montagu Burgoyne, owner of Mark Hall, in Annals of Agriculture and Other Useful Arts, collected and published by Arthur Young in 1804. Scotland, Dunkeld, Perthshire, an elaborate oval silver engraved award medal by H. Gavin, arms of Sir William Drummond Stewart, rev. named (Presented by Sir William Drummond Stewart of Grandtully and Logiealmond, Bart. to Donald Stewart, Tenant of the Lagg, Grandtully, as First Prize at a Competition of 93 Ploughs which took place at his Estate near Murthly Castle, 5th December 1838), 114 x 89mm. Set in a wide pierced star border with suspension loop, extremely fine but the inscription slightly worn in places through cleaning, extremely rare £300-£400 --- Sir William Drummond Stewart, 7th Bt (1795-1871) served in the Peninsular War and was present at the Battle of Waterloo. He spent seven years adventuring in the American west during the 1830s, meeting the native population and adding an unconventional dimension to the world of hunters and fur trappers. His illegitimate son, William George Drummond Stewart (1831-68), won the Victoria Cross serving with the 93rd Highlanders at the siege of Lucknow in 1857. Hector Gavin was an engraver in Edinburgh, based originally at 150 High street and later at 8 North bridge, before moving to Croft-an-Righ, near Holyrood Palace
