FABERGÉ (Фаберже́): An extremely rare and important Russian silver mirror plateau of shaped oval form, the silver moulded rim decorated with scrolls, rocaille and shells on four scroll feet. Marked to side with Imperial warrant of St Petersburg 1904-1908, maker's mark, and scratched inventory number of 15713. Approx. 75 cms across. Provenance: Sotheby's 2004. Being sold on behalf of trustees. Est. £6000 - £8000.

DUGAN GLASS COMPANY, INDIANA, PENNSYLVANIA; a rare and scarce carnival glass 'Farmyard' pattern bowl, with eight ruffles, the bowl predominantly an iridescent green with some areas of blue tones, with the central moulded chicken and cockerel scene, the underside with moulded pattern of scrolls and an impressed star base, diameter between ruffles 22.2cm, total diameter from recessed edge to recessed edge 27cm, height to top of a ruffle 8.2cm.Provenance: This has been handed down through generations of the vendor's family. CONDITION REPORT After extensively looking at every point of the glass bowl using a large magnifying glass and high-powered light, there appear to be no cracks, chips or damage (either by sight or feel). Under the tightest of scrutiny, there may be the tiniest of surface scratches, but there is nothing obvious or easily seen. On close inspection to the iridescence to the front, there are tiny signs of wear, but this is not detrimental to the bowl in any way.Predominant colours are light purple with shades of oranges and possible pinks coming through.
A rare and exquisite 18th century young boy's silk suit, exemplifying the delightful Rococo era, knee-length breeches and flared below the waist jacket, in vibrant kingfisher blue silk, with ivory silk lining, embroidered to the collar, front of coat and sleeve cuffs, with sequins and gold thread, also to the sides of the breeches and embellished with shocking pink silk satin bows with gold wirework tassel thread, both breeches and jacket are lined and interlined. CONDITION REPORT As with many textiles, there are areas of wear. The suit is intrinsically intact, the embroidery and wirework is still exquisite, with no visible missing areas. The fine silk has age-related areas of wear and various tears. The interior is also quite worn and some of the silk lining has disintegrated. Overall, a stunning and rare example of children's 18th century clothing.

Andrew Brown [or Broun] (circa 1651-1712) was apprenticed to Humphrey Milne on 2nd February 1665. His apprenticeship was recorded thus "The second day of February 1665. The quilk day, Andro Broun, sone lawfull to umquihil Jon Broun, in Lang Newtone, is booked prentice to Umpra Milne, clock maker." Ten years later he offically ended his apprenticeship after demonstrating his skill to a committee of clockmakers and became a freeman of the Hammermen's Incorporation. He then took on several apprentices and journeymen himself throughout his career. He became Captain of the City Guard in 1685 and Master of the Hammermen's Incorporation in 1689.In 1689 and 1690 he was elected boxmaster [treasurer] of the Hammermen's Incorporation and in 1696 he became a Guild brother of Edinburgh. Although recorded as a highly capable maker, he apparently died penniless, with his son applying to the Incorporation for financial assistance on his father's death.John Smith, author of Old Scottish Clockmakers from 1453 to1850, states "In view of the long time he was in business, - thirty-five years - it is remarkable how exceedingly scarce are specimens of his art, only three have come under our notice: one being the splendid clock in the lobby of the advocates library, another that was exposed for sale in the window of a dealer in Queen Street Edinburgh, both these two having cases of beautiful and chaste marquetry; and the third one in possession of a private party in Linlithgow"

Programme and Souvenir of The Opening of the L.C.C. Steamboat Service by H.R.H. The Prince of Wales. June 17th 1905, printed by Burgess William and Co. A beautiful piece of ephemera on sugar paper with beautiful printed and hand coloured relief with a gold leaf border. A stunning piece, and rare in this condition. Crêpe handkerchiefs like this were imported from Japan in the late 19th century, already printed with a floral or figurative border. British printers then used them for a variety of souvenirs, as well as theatre programmes, and the firm who printed this specialised in souvenir handkerchief printing.
