General - Thematics : 1902-2015 BUTTERFLIES, certainly one of the best collections ever formed, perfect for specialist to continue and develop - the mainly mint collection in 42 well filled loose leaf albums containing an all world collection. The collection includes the 21 volume 'Batten' collection as exhibited at the RPSL, intact with many sets in blocks of four. The Batten collection is superbly presented and written up, however the sets are separated by species so it may not be immediately obvious that they are complete sets. Better items in this collection include CHINA with 1958 Kuan Han Ching mini sheet unused(cat £475), 1963 set of 20 in fine mint blocks of four(cat £1,500), 1979 Kites set u.m., 1981 12 Beauties set u.m., 1984 Peony Pavilion mini sheet u.m., TAIWAN u.m. sets, MALAYSIA set to $10 in mint blocks of four, 1976 15c two imperf pairs, States inc some Harrison printings mint but not the rare ones, MALAWI £2 two pairs u.m. or m.m., MOZAMBIQUE, MAURITIUS, GAMBIA with better sets and blocks. Sometimes the Butterfly connection is not obvious, some of the more unusual items are early DUTCH COLONIES where butterflies are incorporated into the Wilhelmina designs, INDIA 1946 Registered letter from MOTH, a town in Jhansi Province. The rest of the collection contains many better items, some of the sets may include only one or two butterfly stamps. Some examples include ST. VINCENT 1970 Birds set to $5 u.m. marginals with MUSTIQUE ISLAND overprints in margins(rare!), JAMAICA 1964 6d with blue omitted u.m.(cat £100), GUYANA, MACAU 1985 mini sheet u.m.(cat £225), SOUTH KOREA 1954 10h brown mini sheet unused( Michel cat E500-), NEW ZEALAND 1970 1c missing blue used(cat £200), 4c missing green u.m.(cat £250), colour shifts, JAPAN 1916 Investiture 10s blue mint, toned perf (cat £950). A lot of very obscure material is included with Charity issues, Locals, two albums of Russsia Commonwealth of Independent States issues(1991 onwards), many of these States no longer exist. The collection contains many 1,000s of stamps and mini sheets, the vendor states that he has spent in excess of £40,000 on the collection over the years. The 1965 Diamond issue SG 385-6 includes missing colours and Proofs in unissued colours.
