Leather contoured grip, which likely would have had wire binding when first made. Curved single edged blade, with flat spine and single fuller. Complete with steel scabbard, with 2 suspension rings. The blade carries both German / Prussian issue marks for 1850, plus British inspection marks, indicating it was inspected in Liege. The manufacturers mark is for Schnitzler & Kirschbaum of Solingen. There is also a sold out of service mark of 2 back to back broad arrows to the blade. Notes: this pattern of sword was originally trialed by the Prussian Guard Hussar Regiment in the mid 19th century, before being subsequently rejected. The stocks were purchased by the British Government while in Liege. This pattern of sword is likely one of the rarest to be found today. Approximately 105cm in scabbard, blade length 87cm. Condition: generally solid, with service wear. All over darkened / mottled appearance to the metal. Missing wire binding to the grip, plus some degradation to the leather. Pitting and darkening to the scabbard. There would have been a leather finger tab within the guard, but this has long perished, leaving behind just the nut.
