The purple ink mimeographed document is an original field order headed CIPHER MESSAGE FORM and further marked GO 411A SECRET, which was transmitted from Exfor Main at 20.50 hours on 4th May 1945 to be received by 'FIRST CDN ARMY, SECOND BR ARMY, L OF C, GHQ AA TROOPS 79 ARMD DIV, EXFOR REAR…..' and reads, in full, 'All offensive ops will cease fire from receipt this signal. Orders will be given to all troops to cease fire 0800 hrs tomorrow SATURDAY 5 MAY. Full terms of local GERMAN surrender arranged today for 21 ARMY GROUP front follow. Emphasise these provisions apply solely to 21 ARMY GROUP fronts and are for the moment exclusive of DUNKIRK. ACK'. Unsigned. An historically important document representing the first publication regarding the German surrender (the printed press not having had time to run their copy). A vertical central fold and some light overall creasing, otherwise VGAt 18.20 hours on 4th May 1945 German field commanders surrendered all hostile forces in North West Europe to Field Marshal Montgomery's 21st Army Group at his Tactical HQ, then located on Luneburg Heath. Montgomery immediately ordered his Chief of Operations, Major General David Belchem, to issue a cease fire order to all subordinate units.The 79th Armoured Division, a specialist division operating armoured vehicles modified for specialist roles, originally intended to assist with the landings on the D-Day beaches. These included the Churchill AVRE and Crocodile, as well as the Sherman Crab.

PRINCE GEORGE: (1819-1904) 2nd Duke of Cambridge, British Royal Family, Grandson of King George III. D.S., Duke of Cambridge, three pages, 4to, London, 29th September 1847, to unknown. An unusual and rare insight into the humor of the mid-19th century. To the recto the Duke has rendered, using a fine nibbed ink pen, a bird carrying a letter on which is written 'With many happy returns of the day from the Duke of Cambridge', beneath which is written 'The White Lodge, Richmond Park, Sept. 29th 1847'. Within, the left page contains questions, whilst the right page contains answers. Each is numbered 1 thru 14. These include '1. Why was Charles 1st beheaded instead of burnt?', '1. Because he preferred a chop to a steak.', '12. Why are deaf people like cashmere shawls?', '12. Because we can't make them here.' And '14. What can a man do to make his trousers last?', '14. McELROY GEORGE: (1893-1918) Irish Fighter Ace (47 victories) of World War I, recipient of the Military Cross with two bars and the Distinguished Flying Cross and bar. D.S., G E H McElroy, one page, 4to, n.p. (France), 28th December 1917. The partially printed document, completed in typescript, is a Combat Report (headed Combats in the Air), the narrative stating, 'Observed E[nemy] A[ircraft] at about 4,000' approaching our lines. Dived down, evidently unobserved, and fired about 100 rounds at 50 yards range. E.A. went down out of control. In dive S.E. overshot falling E.A., but on turning round observed machine at rest on ground, and evidently crashed' The statement relates to McElroy's 1st victory whilst piloting a Royal Aircraft Factory S.E. 5A. Below McElroy's signature is that of Leonard Tilney (1895-1918, British Aviator, M.C.), signed in his capacity of Major, Commanding No. 40 Squadron, R.F.C. To the foot of the report is typed 'The above was witnessed by Lieut. MacLanachan.' A very rare set of autographs due to both McElroy and Tilney dying in their early 20's whilst on combat duty. VGMcElroy's DFC with bar, Gazetted on the 20th September 1918, read 'In the recent battles on various army fronts this officer has carried out numerous patrols, and flying at low altitudes, has inflicted heavy casualties on massed enemy troops, transport, artillery teams, etc., both with machine-gun fire and bombs. He has destroyed three enemy kite balloons and forty-three machines, accounting for eight of the latter in eight consecutive days. His brilliant achievements, keenness and dash have at all times set a fine example and inspired all who came in contact with him.'

McKEEVER ANDREW: (1895-1919) Canadian Fighter Ace (31 victories) of World War I, recipient of the Distinguisher Service Order, Military Cross and bars, Distinguished Flying Cross. D.S., A D McKeever, one page, 4to, n.p. (France), 31st October 1917. The partially printed document, completed in typescript, is a Combat Report (headed Combats in the Air), the narrative stating, 'I dived on an E[nemy] A[ircraft] and fired 50 rounds at 50 yards range. The E.A. fluttered down completely out of control but could not be seen to crash as there was a layer of clouds near the ground. The observer fired 100 rounds at the E.A. at a range of 75 yards. The E.A. stalled, nose dived and burst into flames. The observer then fired 85 rounds at 50 yards range at another E.A. which spun down, then turned over and over completely out of control but could not be seen to crash owing to clouds.' Below McKeever's signature the report concludes '1 E.A. out of control. 1 E.A. out of control. 1 E.A. in flames.' This rare triple kill report relates to McKeever's 24th, 25th & 26th victories whilst piloting a Bristol F.2b. Countersigned by Rowland Morton (1887-1953, British Aviator of World War I), in his capacity of Major, Commanding No.11 Squadron, R.F.C. Below Morton's signature is a list entitled 'The following pilots and observers engaged the E.A. indecisively'. The list includes Mortimer West another Ace of 11 Squadron. Beneath, it is also countersigned by Morton. A neat, diagonal cut to the top left corner, partially through the printed word 'Squadron', the head of the report has been trimmed partially into the letters of 'Combat in the Air', otherwise VGRowland Morton, awarded RAeC No 1461 on 24th July 1915. Retiring as a Wing Commander in 1937, he was recalled just before the outbreak of war in 1939 and placed in command of No 31 Group as an Air Commodore. However, in 1940, he moved to HQ Balloon Command reverting to the rank of Wing Commander.

Extremely rare A.L.S., Ethel, three pages, 8vo, 10 Rillington Place, St. Marks Road, London, 11th June 1945, to 'Dear Lil' [Bartle, her sister]. Christie enquires in a desperate manner 'Just a line to ask why you have not answered my last letter about a fortnight ago. It seems strange as Harry has not answered my last letter, neither has Auntie. I hope that you are all well.' Continuing 'Has Eddie been on leave? He has not called here and I keep wondering if he is coming. Have you heard from him? I have not.' Further adding 'Can you manage to come and see us for a weekend (as you suggested) I should love to see you… Write quickly and let me know how you are going on as I worry about you when I do not hear from you… Write soon.' Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Christie. VG

LIDDELL ERIC: (1902-1945) Scottish Athlete & Missionary, Olympic Gold medallist. Liddell was one of the main subjects of the film Chariots of Fire (1981). Rare, bold black fountain pen ink signature ('Eric H. Liddell') on a page contained in an autograph album. The page also bears three other signatures, possibly of fellow Rugby Union players, and the album also features over 80 other signatures by various entertainers and sportsmen including Harry Lauder (with self caricature), Matheson Lang, Wally Patch, Moore Marriott, Danny Blair, Robert McPhail, James Crapnell, Neil Dewar, George Brown, Evelyn Morrison, Sam English, Alex Massie and other footballers, author John Buchan etc. Some of the signatures are in pencil and many are on multiple signed pages. Artist of the hapless WWII character 'Dilbert' and later known for his caricatures of presidents from Lyndon Johnson through to Ronald Reagan. A.L.S., Bob Osborn, ten pages, folio, Salisbury, Connecticut, 14th May 1994, to Herbert Mitgang. Osborn prepares his correspondent 'Brace! For a long-winded reply to your kind letter.' Further complimenting Mitgang '…your review of the Hand biography is excellent and it ought to rightfully inspire people to buy & read it.' Continuing 'One Sunday night on the Harlem R.R. “Rattler” heading for N.Y. I saw Mr. Hand 2 seats ahead facing me… Luckily I had a 10” drawing pad and a black pencil and started to draw that superb, integrated worn… compelling face. The impression of him was so strong the drawing worked. It is now in the Beinecke Library… along with 1,000 of pictures I did… & liked… from 1910 on. Lucky Osbo!' Further explaining 'that the human face… prints relentlessly… the acts & characteristics of a person's life and behaviour (see Nixon's… or the cheap, shallow mug of that Irish clown Ronny R. or his vapid star-crossed wife.' A rare imperial gilt bronze cloisonné decorative plaque in the shape of the head of a ruyiChina, Qing dynasty, Qianlong period (1736 - 1795)Inside the fine frame, in embossed metal with symbols of good fortune, such as swastikas, pairs of fish and clouds, is a finely made plaque decorated with the cloisonné technique, in which are pictured vases holding peonies, cherry tree branches, fruit, and a ruyi sticking out from an archaic style inspired vase, characterized by taotie. Long inscription and brand in the upper right section, concerning the Spring Festival, from the Siku Quanshu (Complete Library in Four Sections), part of the Qing dynasty chronicles. The inscription ends with the name Yu Minzhong (1714-1779), officer of Jintan, in the province of Jiangsu. He was an advisor for emperor Qianlong in important political matters, and from 1773 to his death he was one of the most powerful ministers of the empire. Marked Jiaqing Yuzhi and most probably of the period Superb teapot, decorated with plants’ shoots on a green background, and with two reserves with golden frames, containing a winter and a spring landscape. The base shows a four characters symbol in blue underglaze. A comparison with the famille rose teapot, decorated with a poem and dated 1797 (in National Palace Museum Catalogue, Taipei 2006, pl. 170), shows that the present teapot has been executed in the late Qianlong (Emperor Jiaqing' father) period.Two small chips on the spout, otherwise in good conditions. An illustrated and illuminated double sided album page signed by 'Abdullah Bukhari Ottoman Turkey, 18th century Gouache and gold on paper Fine painting depicting, on the front, two nightingales resting on a rose branch, with insects above them, and a composite page with two men engaged in conversation and two roses of different heights on the back. Both sides present edges with marble effects, the front within a frame with golden arabesques, and the rear with two panels with golden ribbons. Signed on the front, in the lower left side. Abdullah Bukhari (active between 1725 and 1750) was one of the most famous Turkish painters of the XVIII century, specializing in floral albums, and in female portraits. Firenze. In 2° (17,71 x 14,17 in.), 94 photographs mounted on cardboard.Contemporary bound in light brown calf, with title and gilt decoration on the upper cover, slipcase. Magnificent copy of this volume intended for presentation and printed only in very few copies, included the business card of the Podestà of Florence. The two volumes are dedicated to the visit that Hitler paid to Mussolini in Florence, a visit that was carefully organized with solemnity and magnificence as it was the final stop of the journey which marked the alliance between Italy and the Third Reich. A highlight of the tour was the show of the Florentine soccer. Extremely rare.

Engraved coat of arms of the Medici by Francesco Naccion the title page, 2 engraved folding plates with the view of Santa Croce square and the plan explaining the order of the teams(small defects). Contemporary bound in marble cardboard (tired). First edition of this rare volume printed in occasion of the wedding of Ferdinando de Medici with Violante Beatrice of Bavaria. The tournament saw two teams in the field, one European, the other one Asian. After the victory of the European team, the Asian players, during a dance held at Palazzo Pitti in the evening, asked for revenge, but without succes.

A rare lifetime associate badge, in leather, made for Felice Lanfranchi. In gilt lettering, on the front the heading “Milan Foot Ball Club founded in 1899” and the name of the member on the verso. This badge allowed free entrance to the stadium and with a cord was attached to the collar of a coat or of a jacket. The name of Milan Foot Ball Club was used between 1919 and 1936. This badge was used, therefore, in the years of the foundation of the famous San Siro stadium, in 1926, an era in which the greatest stars of the team were Aldo Boffi and Giuseppe Meazza. Brown leather badge with gilt lettering of the owner's name. Diameter 2,48 in.

Manuscript on paper in brown ink of a match played during Carnival in 1672. Very rare document related to an early game of football in Florence. The document in two columns reveals the names of the participants to the game: lead by the Calcianti, followed by the Alfiere, and five Sconciatori (what today we call halfbacks), then three Datori Innanzi (nowadays fullbacks) and finally the Datori à Dietro (goalkeepers). Interesting that one of the fullbacks was named Luigi the Turk and among the fullbacks there was a member of the Medici family. But many more of the participants also came from some of the most notable Florentine families as the Frescobaldis, the Antinoris, the Pazzis, the Alamannis, the Gianfigliazzis and Gherardinis.

April 26, 1970 is the last day of the season in which the Cagliari team, just graduated Champion of Italy, receives the trophy. In this winning match for its team against Torino F.C., the team leader Gigi Riva, also know as "Rombo di tuono”, scores two goals, wearing precisely this shirt. In 2005, as a tribute to the career of Riva, the shirt number 11, his signature in the field since his first games, has been retired from the Cagliari roster. Rare example of the medal awarded to the participants to the second World Cup tournament, held in Italy from May 27 to June 10, 1934, the first won by the Italian national team that defeated Czechoslovakia 2-1 in the final, with Vittorio Pozzo as coach. The nominal medal belonged to Uberto Aruga, a great supporter of sports in the Turin area and, among other things, technical director of the local stadium and manager of the Italian Football Association. Beautiful witness of the "Jules Rimet Cup", Italy’s first triumph in the world of football.
