1926 ROLLS-ROYCE 20HP WITH OPEN TOURING COACHWORK BY BARKER Chassis No: GZK 10 Engine No: GI660 Registration No: WU 6110 Date of first registration: 23 APRIL 1926 Specification: Six cylinders in-line pushrod ohv motor of 3127cc, Monobloc with detachable head; four-speed manual gearbox, four-wheel mechanical brakes with servo; semi-elliptic spring suspension front & rear to live axle. Coachwork: Original barrel-sided coachwork by Barkers of London. Colour Scheme: White overall with red leather interior and tan hood & weather equipment. History: This particular example - chassis number 'GZK 10' - was ordered in late 1925 & dispatched to renowned coachbuilder Barker & Co of Olaf Street, Notting Hill on 31st March 1926. Bodied as a four-seater open tourer, it was supplied new via a London-Agent to Miss Sutcliff of Scaitcliffe Hall, Todmorden, Lancashire. Thereafter, the Rolls-Royce is known to have passed through the hands of Major J. A. Jackson of Gosforth, Newcastle-on-Tyne: Major Paul Andrews of Newport, Monmouthshire: Arthur Cornish of Eccleshill, Bradford: H. Horsefield & Son of Halifax: H. S. Waterhouse of Threshfield, Yorks: and then being purchased by former Ford Works Rally driver Eric Jackson who owned the car in a personal collection for almost 30 years prior to its current ownership. During his period of ownership the car was completely restored in Eric Jackson's workshops. The engine was removed and bored out to + 60 (which is equal to a Rolls 20/25); it had an overdrive and a new prop shaft fitted; whilst the original Barker coachwork was restored with running boards, completely resprayed and reupholstered in red leather. The vehicle travelled to Ireland, France, Norway, Sweden and the Isle of Man on RREC rallies with Mr Jackson. As well as copy chassis card records, accompanying paperwork includes a charming letter from Major Andrews' son which reveals that the 20hp spent time on the Continent and was used for numerous holidays.. In September 2011 the vehicle was sold to the present owner and has formed part of a private collection of Classic Vehicles since that date. A V5C and older style green log-book are present within the history file documentation. Condition: At the time of going to press with catalogue, this vehicle has not been inspected by our specialist consultant. From the vendor we understand that the vehicle is in excellent condition to original specification. The coachwork by Barker seems resplendent in all-over white paintwork, whilst the red leather interior appears to be of a very high quality of restoration, as indeed the overall impression is of an outstanding presentation. Sporting a full set of weather equipment and recent new full red tonneau cover. The subject of an older restoration, 'WU 6110' is a rare example of a Rolls-Royce 20hp having all matching numbers in excellent order with its original-fitted body

'WALES GREATEST EVER' - SIR GARETH EDWARDS' INTERNATIONAL WELSH RUGBY JERSEY MATCH WORN V IRELAND IN 1977 The jersey from the 25-9 victory in Cardiff Arms Park is in excellent condition with the collars, labels and No.9 on the back. It has been remarked within rugby memorabilia circles that Sir Gareth 'keeps his jerseys' and that if an opportunity arises to purchase one at auction then it would be a rare opportunity indeed. Provenance: letters to accompany the jersey outlining the ownership history of the jersey and confirming that Sir Gareth had verified its authenticity. Sir Gareth gave the jersey directly to Mr Ken Rees after the match, the jersey then passed on to the current owner during a charity auction in 2007. There is also an email from former Wales International Neil Boobyer stating that Sir Gareth had confirmed that the jersey was given to Mr Rees after the match. The 1970s are regarded as the glory years of Welsh rugby and there were many great and entertaining players. However it is Gareth Edwards that we think of first when recalling those fantastic amateur years. Sir Gareth Edwards CBE, the son of a coalminer was raised in the mining community of Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen near Neath, South Wales. It was in Pontardawe Technical School that his sporting prowess first came to the fore and where he excelled academically winning a scholarship to the elite Public School of Millfield in Somerset. Here he found a natural ability for many different sports - he played football for West Wales Youth and signed for Swansea City at the age of 16. He also showed promise in gymnastics, tennis and athletics but it was clear by the age of seventeen that rugby was goinpg to be his sport and scrum-half his position. Edwards gained his first cap against France at the age of 19 in 1967. He went on to win 53 caps over eleven years including 13 as captain. He was Wales' youngest ever captain at the age of 20. Sir Gareth was blessed with having two of the most celebrated and natural fly-halves on his shoulder in Barry John and Phil Bennett and it was said that both scrum-half and either of the respective fly-halves had an uncanny telepathic-like understanding on the pitch. All Sir Gareth's caps were won in succession and there was never an injury or a dip in form that kept him off the team-sheet. In all Sir Gareth scored twenty International tries for Wales. During this era, Wales were dominant in the Five Nations Championship - winning the title seven times and taking three Grand Slams. Edwards was named Player of the Year in Wales in 1969, he was awarded the prestigious BBC Wales Sports Personality of the year in 1974 and received and MBE in 1975. Edwards played for the British & Irish Lions ten times and was part of the legendary 1971 winning series in New Zealand and the 1974 unbeaten South Africa tour side. He spent his entire senior club career with Cardiff RUFC, scoring 69 tries in 195 matches. He was also the scorer of 'that try'. The legendary 1973 Barbarians effort v New Zealand, regarded as the 'best try ever scored'. In 2001 Sir Gareth Edwards was voted the 'Greatest Welsh Player of all time' by the Welsh Rugby Former International Players Association' and in a 2003 poll by Rugby World magazine, Edwards was declared the greatest player of all time. he was one of only fifteen former players inducted into the International Rugby Hall of Fame including team-mate Barry John and JPR Williams. He is also the subject of a plaque in the Rugby Pathway of Fame in Rugby, Warwickshire. Sir Gareth Edwards was knighted in 2015.

Carl Bonn (b. 1912 - d. 1977) studied at the Wimbledon Art School and the Royal Academy. He was resident designer for the Dublin Gate Theatre from 1938 to 1944. In 1944 he moved to the Gaiety Theatre, and also worked freelance for Jimmy O'Dea at the Gaiety and for various Irish touring companies. Between 1947 and 1949 Bonn worked for the Abbey Theatre before moving to become the resident designer and costume maker at the Liverpool Playhouse, 1949-1951. In the 1950s, with his partner Colin Mackenzie, Carl Bonn opened the Theatrical Costume Workshop based in Covent Garden, London. With £100, a sewing machine and a bulging contacts book to their name, they led the way for a new generation of freelance costumiers. Using their knowledge, skill and ingenuity they demonstrated imaginative and pioneering techniques both in style and cutting, the way that they translated their two-dimensional designs into three-dimensional forms was second to none. They were considered the best costumiers in the business throughout the 20th century. The following collection, which has been hidden away for the last forty years, represents a rare opportunity to own a piece of Bonn's work which rarely appears on the open market. Examples of his work can be found in museums all around the world including the Victoria and Albert Museum. Of Ernest Henry Shackleton interest: a rare and uncommonly neatly written six page Letter dated May 7th 1893 from the Hoghton Tower (his first ship) in Newcastle Harbour, New South Wales, Australia. The letter is a reply to a "long and interesting letter" from Mrs. Snelling of Beau Basin, Mauritius, who is understood to have been the wife of a Government servant and with whom Shackleton and two crew companions stayed for a few days when visiting the Island. The letter displays remarkable maturity for a 19 year old referring to the childishness/innocence of the Snellings' two teenage daughters, nonetheless it is tinged with the sadness of leaving Mauritius comparing the hills of Mauritius fading away as they sailed to the last lights of Old England disappearing from sight on his original departure. The letter also gives some insight into his school days and his decision to leave to go to sea and also refers to his brother's interest in stamp collecting. The letter is on cream flimsy paper with some foxing and is two pieces of paper, one 8" x 10" folded into two making four sides of writing, the second a smaller piece of paper, 8" x 5" approx., sadly in two pieces where the letter has been folded. Both pieces of paper have a watermark, discernible when held up against the light "Langer's Newcastle Book Arcade Merchants Note".
