A rare Worcester reticulated plate, painted in the workshops of James Giles, with scattered sprigs of flowers in two tones of green, outlined in black, the inner border decorated with chain and spot gilded flowers, the scalloped rim finely pierced with hearts and crescents, 22cm diam, c.1770Note: The reticulation technique was clearly introduced to Worcester porcelain by craftsman from Staffordshire and Yorkshire trained in the manufacture of cream ware. Worcester was the only porcelain maker to attempt this distinctive and ornate pierced decoration. The process would have been expensive, volatile and difficult, therefore very few pieces seem to have been made. Condition Report: Good condition. Surface scratches and general signs of wear.
A rare Worcester tureen, domed cover, decorated in the workshop of James Giles in differing shades of green with branches of leaves, buds and sprigs, the bowl with bouquet to centre, gilt rims, the elaborate entwined handles and finial applied flowers and leaves, 22cm high, Zorensky Collection label, c.1770 Note: the buds are roses as there are very small lines like thorns on some of the stems in the manner of the Horner of Mells pattern. See similar tureen shape in blue and white in the Zorensky Collection, Part II, Bonhams, Lot 374 Condition Report: Askew from firing. Minor nibbling to flowers. Firing cracks to twist handles. Rubbed gilding in places.
A rare Worcester Dalhousie style sparrow beak cream jug, of reeded `French' shape, decorated with a cottage by a river within turquoise husk roundel, the ground painted with colourful sprays of flowers and insects, blue banded border with gilt scrolls, dentil rim, 11cm high, crescent mark, c.1780Note: Similar cup and saucer Zorensky Collection, Part II, Lot 189 Condition Report: Wear to gilding. Restored spout with chip.
A Worcester hexagonal moulded cream boat, of small size, with double scroll handle, the spout with leaf in relief, moulded fancy C-scroll cartouche painted with floral bouquet, floral sprigs to the interior and exterior, 5.4 cm high, c.1765 (amended date) Vendor's Note: there is a lot of spit on this item, it shows just how difficult it was to correctly fire a piece at this time, and the fact they decorated it, shows how rare complete pieces were, they could not afford to make it a waster so they decorated over the spit. Ref. Similar cream boats can be seen in the Crane Collection, Bonhams, 2010, Lots 30, 31 and 32 Condition Report: Manufacturing blemishes.
