Lot 267

A c1930 Tri-ang Motor Caravanette A rare floor toy, being a cross between a vehicle and a doll's house. It possesses its original furnishings and windows. Tri-ang's early vehicles in the late 1920s were described as 'Doll's Motor Vans' having an open-front cab design to create an easily accessible driver's space that was a perfect place for a child to put a doll or small teddy bear. The sides of the caravan have opening windows (apparently the same window parts used in some of their doll houses), and the back of the vehicle has two opening 'French Window' doors, together with a set of steps that can be moved into place when the doors are open. The chimney is missing but the electric lighting facility is insitu. Two windows need re-fitting. 18-inches long, 8-inches wide.

(6cm.) high, weight 7.35 tr.oz. * Thumb size shallow dent to underside of belly, otherwise nothing to note, good.

A rare 19th century miniature Royal Horse Guard 'The Blues' Sentry Box cigar / cigarette or collectors box, made from English oak, with slatted pitched roof, the hinged front door with glass panel with original watercolour of a Royal Horse Guard (The Blues) by artist F. O'Beirne, signed lower left, opening to reveal three drawers each with flush fitting brass finger pulls, the sprung lock which locks when the door is pushed shut can only be opened by key (two keys present), 4¾ x 4 5/8in. (12 x 11.8cm.), 10½in. (26.7cm.) high. * Condition: Some very light rubbing to sharp corners and edges, keys work (but not original to piece), split to bottom left of door panel, overall very good with nice patina.

An extremely rare Wedgwood majolica glazed earthenware swan ewer, circa 1875, the swan with outspread wings and holding a turquoise glazed vessel, forming the spout, the handle formed as the neck, raised on circular base of rushes, 14in. (35.7cm.) high, marked to underside impressed 'WEDGWOOD' and printed 'T Goode & Co', faults.* Chips to either side of upper rim; graze to back of right wing tips; tail feathers with large chip mainly to underside; chips to tips of feet, still displays well.

An exceptionally rare Channel Islands Napoleonic prisoner-of-war straw work box, containing an old handwritten collection label, 'This box was made by the Prisoners of Guernsey or Sark and presented to Mrs Matilda Frampton in 1820', of book form, the spine lettered 'TOME 3' and decorated with stars and trophies, the lid decorated with an oval reserve of a large house with tiled roof, the base and interior of the lid with a long, wooden building with tiled roof, possibly a prison building, with fenced grounds, the interior with two lidded compartments decorated with military and agricultural trophies, 9½ x 6½ x 2 7/8in. (24.1 x 16.5 x 7.3cm.). * Condition: Losses to straw work around the edges of the box and to the spine and some losses to base. Minor losses and lifting to straw cover to lid. The interior very clean overall with just minor losses from the straw work.

Segall, 1932, arms peg-detachable, unscrewing from base and torso with butterfly nuts, approximate height, 70½in. (179cm.). * Condition: One foot/ankle with repaired split, some paint fading and surface wear, one butterfly nut missing, overall good, very pleasing to the eye.

WEDGWOOD FAIRYLAND LUSTRE - an extremely rare 3 5/8in. Malfrey pot and cover, first quarter 20th century, designed Daisy Makeig-Jones, decorated with Elves and Bell Branch pattern, depicting goblins and elves dancing on and around a mushroom, spider webs in the background against a midnight blue lustre glaze, the cover with a fairy to centre of spider web with gold gilded spider at one side with small fairies and leaves randomly scattered, the inner of lid with central large spider in web with scattered flies and flowers on light green lustre ground, underside with gold and black Portland vase mark and "Wedgwood England", also indistinct pattern no. (possibly Z208) - please see photo.* A very similar Malfrey pot and cover sold for $31,050.00 at Murphy Auctions in their Lamp & Glass sale in 2007, lot 395.** Very good / excellent condition, no chips, cracks or hairlines found, two tiny marks to gilt on fairy to centre of web on cover, some seepage from lustre bleeding into green glaze at base underside and inner pot, pattern number indistinct but visible.

MG - O Wad Some Power the Giftie A rare 1929 large format 12pp brochure, highlighting the activities of the company at a time of their move to Abingdon, having a tipped-in depiction of the Abingdon factory covering that of Edmunds Road in Oxford. Discussed is the Cpt Samuelson success in the Monte Carlo, Chiesman in the L to L, tributes from Malcolm Campbell and others, monochrome images. Some creasing to the cover edges, some soiling, the laid paper editorial with a little foxing, otherwise sound. Also, 'Adventures in France', a 1929 12pp leaflet discussing the use of a 14/40 through France, Good, clean condition. (2)

M.G. 18/80 Mk 1 & Mk II A rare two-fold colour Mk 1 brochure promoting the saloons and tourers. C1930, slightly soiled, but better than most. Also, a similar brochure for the Mk II, the front and edges a little soiled, several short splits, also a two-fold version with Connolly imaging, but creased and soiled. Together with two single-sided handbills for the Weymann bodied Mk II and another for 'Fabric Finishes' for the Mk 1. (5)

Brooklands - Royal Race Meeting 1922 A rare 24pp, A4 brochure produced by The Motor Owner Magazine, and uncompromisingly of the same quality, an official programme of the race meeting held on May 20th 1922, support by H.R.H. The Duke of York (later King George VI) with the tipped-in colour photograph on its card still insitu. Excellent detailed text, colour advertisements, vignettes of the drivers and officials, details of the Industrial Welfare Society, a rare HE advertisement and much else. Some creasing and soiling to the cover, the cotton-ties intact, but will benefit from paper husbandry in due course.
