Ca. 202 BC - 220 AD.A rare pottery duck. The bird is standing on its stylised, well-defined bronze legs which support a globular body and elegantly slender neck terminating in a black-coloured head with a beak and open, attentive eyes. The body is well-formed with realistic details. Ducks, known for their adaptability and migratory behaviour, have been symbolic in Chinese culture for their associations with fidelity, conjugal harmony, and good fortune. Thus, the ducks serve as metaphors, expressing wishes for happiness and prosperity. This piece has been precisely dated by means of a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla, an independent German Laboratory. The samples collected date the piece to the period reflected in its style, whilst also showing no modern trace elements. The TL certificate with its full report will accompany this lot. Size: L:205mm / W:200mm ; 750g Provenance: East Anglian private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong.

Lot 316

Ca. 600-800 AD.A rare bronze seal etched with meticulous precision presents a tableau of spiritual symbolism. A large, imposing cross, occupying the heart of the composition, projects an aura of divinity and spiritual dominion. Its prominence speaks to the Byzantine propensity to intertwine the secular and the sacred, highlighting the inseparability of religious tenets from the fabric of everyday life. Two smaller crosses, poised in the upper corners, offer visual harmony and symmetry to the overall composition. Size: L:50mm / W:23mm ; 40.7g Provenance: Private London collection, pre-2000s.

Lot 364

Western Asia, ca. 1200-700 BC.A rare pair of bronze amulets, each characterized by a round-section shank with ribbed features on one end and a claw-shaped hook on the other, and a suspension loop in the mid-section. Western Asiatic metallurgy during this period was marked by the use of bronze, which was created by alloying copper with a small amount of tin. This process allowed for the production of hard, durable objects that could be cast or hammered into a variety of shapes. The skilled artisans of this region created a wide range of objects, including weapons, tools, and decorative items, using techniques such as casting, hammering, and engraving. Size: L:80-80mm / W:45-45mm ; 25g Provenance: Private UK collection; From an old London collection formed in the 1990s.

Lot 138

Ca. early 5th century BC.A rare terracotta protome, featuring a breathtaking visage of a goddess with ethereal beauty. This masterful creation showcases well-modelled facial features that testify to the skill and finesse of its creator. The goddess's face is a captivating sight, with her eyes imbued with a sense of depth and mystery that draws the viewer in. Her gaze seems to evoke a longing for a forgotten age of myth and legend. The nose is finely chiselled and adds a delicate balance to the overall harmony of the piece. The lips, gently closed, hint at a sense of calm and serenity, while the ears are depicted with a subtle yet lifelike realism. The goddess's coiffure is adorned with a headdress that conveys a sense of majesty and power. A protome is a type of bust made by pressing a thin layer of terracotta into a single mold. These were first made in Rhodes, but from the early fifth century BC onwards they spread throughout Greece and the Mediterranean world, becoming a staple of ancient Greek artistic expression. Cf. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Accession number: 26.164.8. Size: L:210mm / W:150mm ; 1.12kg Provenance: Private UK collection; From an old London collection formed in the 1990s.

Lot 83

Ca. 500 - 600 AD.A rare gold ring featuring an exquisite intaglio of a Sasanian horserider seated with ease atop his mount, his face finely detailed with an abundant beard and hair, topped with a headpiece that speaks to his noble status. The horse, too, is a marvel of artistry, presented in a distinctive pose with its left foreleg raised and slightly bent, its trappings and tail finely rendered. The ring's design is equally impressive, with a gold band that showcases the intaglio to its fullest effect. The intricate details of the intaglio are highlighted by the shimmering gold setting, which adds an element of richness and warmth to the piece. The Sasanian Empire, which spanned from the 3rd to the 7th century AD, was a flourishing civilization that left an indelible mark on the world. Known for its military might, artistic achievements, and cultural richness, the Sasanian period saw the rise of a unique and distinctive style of art, characterized by intricate motifs, bold designs, and striking use of color.

Die Experten in Genf schrieben damals zu dieser Uhr: "It is rare to find an unconverted Arnold escapement; it is even rarer to find one with such unusual compensation. In a regular compensation curb all parts are made fixed and are installed as such; they cannot be adjusted, and they either work correctly or do not. In this watch, the compensation can be adjusted by changing the point at which it acts on the regulator pin: the closer to the center, the greater the compensation, the farther away, the lesser the compensation. It seems that the present compensation was Arnold's answer to Earnshaw's sugar- tong compensation"!

1978 Bentley T2 Long Wheelbase Transmission: automaticMileage:The Bentley T-Series was the Bentley badged version of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, available as a four or two-door saloon with coachwork by James Young or Mulliner Park Ward. The Bentley differed from its Rolls-Royce equivalent by its more rounded front grille and different bonnet while the badging on the wheel covers, boot lid and gauges naturally featured Bentley motifs. In October 1966, the 'T' saloon's pre-tax 'list price' of £5,375 undercut the Rolls-Royce by £50! The Bentley was technically an identical twin of the Rolls-Royce and seemed to have been purchased mostly by owners wishing for a more understated luxury saloon. This rare luxury long wheelbase Bentley T2 was first registered on 20th January 1978, the car is one of only two built this production year and is presented in Scots Pine Green coachwork with a contrasting cream leather opulent trim. A non Everflex roof car and a car well known to the Rolls-Royce and Bentley owners club due to its rarity, this car has spent a number of years in Germany and was cared for by Steenbuck Automobiles with a number of TÃV certificates for recent years available in the history file. Prior to its holiday in Germany, Ghost Motors were responsible for its care and since its return to the UK the car has spent the last year wafting around London going to various social events. Delivered new to a titled owner, this car has spent much of its life being chauffeur driven and well maintained, with documents found in the history file. We are informed by the owner that the car is in very good order. Not only are the long wheelbase cars four inches longer but we believe incredibly good value given the rarity in the Rolls-Royce and Bentley marketplace, what better way to arrive to that social event and impress?

1963 Heinkel Trojan Transmission: automaticMileage:28534The cars were built in Croydon UK by Trojan to the design of the Heinkel Kabine and using the reliable Heinkel four-stroke 198 cc engine. The car was advertised as having a top speed of 56mph and achieving 95mph but probably not both at the same time! The design was inspired by the original Italian Isetta but is much lighter and the steering wheel is in a fixed position. This rare four-wheel version was built in 1963 and registered in April of that year (60 years ago) for export to Holland and was repatriated in 2015 by the previous owner on the grounds of 'significant historical interest'. It is registered with the DVLA as an Historic Vehicle so MoT and Tax (payment) exempt. The car was confirmed as genuine and original by the Heinkel Trojan Archive Trust in May 2016. Certificate provided. The body had an earlier restoration and the paintwork is still in good condition with a couple of small dents which are difficult to see in most lighting conditions. The plexiglass (acrylic) windows were replaced in May 2023 and as this is a pre-1964 model the quarterlights (and windscreen) are real glass.Continuous restoration and maintenance from 2015 of the mechanical side include replacement clutch, braking system including new wheel cylinders and copper pipework, wheel bearings, king pins, axle-crank bearings, rebuilt front shock-absorbers, engine mounts, five tyres, silencer and battery (2022).The interior was completely refurbished in 2022 using the original fittings and looks great in tartan, the wiring is in good condition and the exterior chrome-work is good but there is some minor pitting. The excellent Heinkel Trojan Club in the UK supplies reasonably priced new and used parts to keep the car on the road. You will also find a friendly welcome at the HTC and regional microcar events.Documentation includes Heinkel Trojan Trust Certificate, V5C registration document, original owner's manual, illustrated Trojan Parts List, Workshop Manual, Heinkel Trojan Club's Members Handbook (130p), back issues of HTC Review and numerous receipts. Also included are the registration mark 'TRO 376', a fitted Pro-Tec rain cover, the stainless-steel rear luggage rack fitted without drilling additional holes, an original style scissor-jack and a spare wheel under the adjustable front seat. The car successfully completed the Classic London to Brighton (and back...150 miles) in 2017 and has taken part in a number of national and local events. It won the 'Second most desired Heinkel Trojan' at the National MicroCar Rally in 2019 - before the interior was refurbished. The heater pipe is currently sealed at the bulkhead due to past experience with exhaust derived heaters but the mechanism around the head is all in place for possible reconnection. A fun and striking car which brings smiles to all that glance over it.Interested parties should be aware that the Trojan runs and drives but the cable needs looking at for smoother gear selection.

1948 Morris Minor MM Lowlight Split Screen Transmission: manualMileage:15538Sir Alec Issigonis' concept was to combine the luxury and convenience of a good motor car at a price affordable by the working classes. The Minor was a roomy vehicle with superior cornering and handling characteristics. The Minor prototype had been known as the Morris Mosquito. More than 1.3 million of the lightweight, rear-wheel drive cars were eventually produced, mainly in Cowley, Oxfordshire, becoming Britain's first car to sell a million units and was exported around the world. Production continued in Birmingham until 1972 with the last Morris Minor (commercial) assembled at Stoke, Nelson, New Zealand in 1974. The front torsion bar suspension was shared with the larger Morris Oxford as was the almost-unibody construction. Although the Minor was originally designed to accept a flat four engine with four distinctive gaps in the engine bay to accommodate it, late in the development stage it was replaced by a 918cc side-valve inline-four engine, pretty much unchanged from the outgoing Morris 8 and producing 27.5hp and 39lbf ft of torque. This little engine pushed the Minor to just 64mph but delivered 40 miles per imperial gallon. This example is one of the very earliest cars in existence, being just the seventh car to roll off the production line in 1948. It is understood to be the oldest example in private ownership, with chassis number 501 belonging to the National Motor Museum. The car was purchased by our vendor's late uncle in 1965, being in the family ever since. The car is presented in exceptional condition throughout, the Platinum Grey paintwork gleams and would proudly sit next to far more expensive cars at any show. The car has some very rare features, such as the single round rear lights, a part which is said to have taken twenty years to source during the ground up restoration process, when a new old stock pair were found at an autojumble. The car also has side semaphore indicators and chrome door tops, opposed the stainless steel tops found on later cars. This example really does need to be seen to be fully appreciated, it is understood to be the oldest running useable example; there are no records of chassis numbers 502-506, so this car is likely to be the oldest surviving example which is publicly available. It's very unlikely that the National Motor Museum will sell chassis 501 anytime soon. This car would be a fantastic addition to any collection and is an opportunity which should not be missed.
