Richard Hillary one of the Rarest Battle of Britain autographs signed to the inside page of his book The Last Enemy printed in 1942.He was badly burned in the Battle of Britain and tragically killed in 1943 in a Night training flight. Flight Lieutenant Richard Hope Hillary 20 April 1919 - 8 January 1943 was a Battle of Britain pilot who died during World War II. He is best known for his book The Last Enemy 1942, based upon his experiences during the Battle of Britain. His autograph in uncommonly rare and highly sought after. The book comes with a letter dated 1963 from the Old House Bookshop in Farnham which gives details on the purchase of the book from the estate of a lady associated with the authors family. The book was signed in 1942 and the purchases viewed other letters from Hillary to the lady, which were being kept by the estate. France.- Arnout (Jules) Excursions Aeriennes, 7 tinted lithograph views, some foxing and dust-soiling, mostly to margins, loose as issued in original printed wrappers, tears to spine ends and a little soiled, folio, Paris (Jeannin) & London (E. Gambart, Junin & Co.), 1846. ⁂ Extremely rare suite of magnificent aerial views of Orleans, Fontainebleau, Rouen, Paris (2), Versailles and St. Cloud. Each image depicts a balloon in the distance and the plate captions include the name of the place depicted followed by the words "en ballon" and then a sub-heading stating precisely whence the view was taken, e.g. "Vue prise au dessus du Quartier Francois 1er." We were unable to trace previous copies of this set at auction.

Cockerill, 1697. ⁂ Important early work by Defoe on socio-economic matters in which he also proposes the education of women. Rare at auction with only 2 copies appearing over the last 40 years. The inscription quoting Benjamin Franklin in his memoirs reads "There was also a book of Defoe's....which perhaps gave me a turn of thinking, that had an influence on some of the principal future events of my life."

Lintot and R.Gosling...A.Bettesworth...and W.Innys, 1712. ⁂ The rare true first edition, published in only one volume, of this buccaneering expedition around the world led by Capt. Woodes Rogers in 1708-11. Cooke and Rogers each rushed to publish an account; the second edition of Cooke's work expanded his final chapter into another volume. During the voyage they rescued Alexander Selkirk who had been marooned on the island of Juan Fernandez four years previously. "It is generally supposed that De Foe took his "Robinson Crusoe" from the account here given of Alex. Selkirk, as it was the first book containing it." Sabin

The fine portrait by W. Sherwin is here in the rare first state with reading "W. Sherwin ad vivum facibat".

Dickens (Charles) A Tale of Two Cities, first edition in book form, first issue, additional etched title, frontispiece and 14 plates by H.K. Browne, occasional light foxing and slight offsetting, ink name at head of etched title, upper hinge weak, primary binding of original red cloth, spine blocked and lettered in gilt, a few marks and a little shaky, [Smith I, 13; Hatton & Cleaver pp.333-342], 8vo, Chapman and Hall, 1859. ⁂ A very good copy of Dickens' classic set during the French Revolution which opens with one of the most famous lines in literature: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." The work was originally serialised in All the Year Round and then issued in monthly parts. Its huge popularity meant that initial demand for the book version was less than usual, making surviving copies quite rare. This copy, in the primary red binding (it was also issued in olive green cloth) conforms to all the internal flaws mentioned by Smith, the most obvious of which is the mis-numbering of p.213. This novel also marked the final Dickens work illustrated by Hablot K. Browne ("Phiz").

The clothes are largely for poor women and infants, with particular emphasis on minimising waste.
