Rare 1921 Hong Kong Boxing Association silver and leather championship prize belt – comprising white metal plaque decorated with 2x dragons and engraved “Hong Kong Boxing Association – The Colony’s Featherweight Championship Belt – Presented by J Scott Harston Esq – won by 26th November 1921 Leading Stoker Brett – 8th February 1924 Able Seaman Chadwick – 14th January 1926 Seaman Gardner” and mounted either side with white metal bare knuckle boxing figures and shields together white medal chain link to the edge of the belt and comes with silver hall marked belt buckle – some wear and tear to the leather belt, chain link has come away from from the leather belt in places – leather needs feeding and polishing
A Rare Collection of Oxford University Rowing Medals and plaques awarded to Edward Prichard Evans, a member of the winning Oxford Boat Race Team in 1905 This fine and impressive collection of 13 pieces includes his Winning ‘Putney’ medal (Boat Race) and his Winners ‘Visitors Challenge Cup’ medal from Henley together with 2x OUBC Four Oars Challenge Prize Silver Medals, 2x OUBC Bronze Trials Eights, 4x engraved boat crew plaques and 2x Radley College medals – all mounted f & g c/w gilt slips – together with two photographs by Moyse Putney to incl a cabinet photograph of Evans showing him wearing his sweater onto which are sewn his initials, his Oxford Blazer and the Oxford University Boat Club Cap complete with crossed oars emblem. The second is a shot of the crew manning the boat in 1905 with Evans seated at number six. Evans, the son of a clergyman, was born Sandgate, Kent in 1884 and lived in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. A print of a newspaper account of the race is also included
Fine and rare Geo. G Bussey London Ball tail wooden tennis racket c1920s –stamped “Tournament 3” to the throat and comes with the extremely rare ‘Ball-Tail’ handle – c/w chamfered head and ‘Wavy-wedge’. Four strings broken next to the frame at the top and two broken mid-head. A superbly finished frame with no cracks or warping. A fine honey coloured patina – a fine example – c/w full length racket cover
Rare and early Jefferies wooden and leather bound handle racket c1870 – this delicate concave wedge racket fitted with the period white sheep skin grip c/w braid collar and stamped across the throat Jefferies – period thick gut stringing (G) – 2x areas whipping to the head – otherwise a good example of an early period racket – overall length 23” Note: Jefferies were the earliest makers of tennis rackets in the mid 19th century and made the original Sphairistike sets for Wingfield in 1875 which helped to spread the game of tennis across the whole country and was considered to be the general break through for the game
Rare “Junior Army & Navy Lawn Tennis” pine equipment box c1875-1885 – the early pine box is painted with red/blue /red stripes on the outside, the hinged lid reveals the original colour lithograph pictorial label featuring mixed doubles tennis scene with a view of possibly Windsor castle in the background. It also complete with internal partitions which very rarely survive over the years – the box measures 39” x 15.5” x 9.5” max c/w cast iron carrying handle to the front panel and pine handle support to the rear panel, closing hooks, and original wavy end supports to the base Note: This is a good variation on other similar boxes which feature different tennis scene (no castle) and it’s describes as “Junior” although the box is full size. Either side of the original Army & Navy label there are details of the Rules as set down by “The Marylebone Cricket Club, The All England Croquet and Lawn WTennis complete boxes to come on the market some time Club” Diagram of The Court and The Contents Of The Box – It is probably one of the best

A rare George III rectangular tortoiseshell tea caddy embossed to all four sides with a basketwork pattern between concave and rounded corners, the lid with a raised central rectangle with a steel urn finial, the whole raised on steel ball feet, width 11.2cm. Condition Report: There are lots of bits of damage. The worst is the front left hand side of the lid and two missing side elements from the upper edge when open. We believe the silver to be original. The lid interior is present, it is wooden with the same veneer. There is no key.
An extremely rare Troika black ground tall vase of rectangular section, one side moulded with a series of open horizontal cubes, signed Troika St Ives, height 47.3cm (neck damage). This vase is one of a series specifically made for Heals, and a white example is illustrated no. 25 in the New Century, Kensington Church Street, Troika Exhibition 1994 catalogue. (See illustration)
