Worksplate LNER 72 of 1924. Oval brass, ex LNER A3 4-6-2 Pacific SUNSTAR. Originally numbered 2571 when built in September 1924, it received the LNER number 72 in July 1946 and finally the BR number 60072 in 1948. Initially a Gateshead loco moving to Heaton until 1958 and Tweedmouth. Also at Copley Hill and Holbeck before withdrawal from Heaton in October 1962. It was stored at Blaydon for 6 months and finally cut up at Doncaster in May 1963. This 9 x 5 is the second pattern of this plate to be carried by this engine, replacing the original plate numbered 2571 in March 1948. However both "new" plates had been removed from the splashers by 1951, thus making this a very rare survivor. Note: Sunstar was the Racehorse that won the 1911 Derby and 2000 Guineas.
