A large and rare Galluba & Hofmann all bisque Gentleman and Lady figure, German circa 1910, the Gentleman with painted features, ginger hair wig and moulded black jacket with tails, trousers with gold thread trim and white waistcoat, mounted on modern wooden stand, (condition: some restoration to fingers), standing Lady with painted features real hair wig and raised right arm, wearing a long silk dress and hat with feather, (condition: good), both 6 ¾” (17cm) tall, (2 items).
A rare and interesting Omega RAF 1953 military watch. This 17 jewel manual wind movement watch has dust cover, black dial with white Arabic numerals and luminous dots and hands. The back case is marked 6645 101000 (for NATO issue), 6B/542, 3150/53, with the large RAF arrow to the top. The dial is also marked with the “fat arrow” above 6 and the encircled T below 12. This watch is mounted on a retrospective strap and may also have retrospective hands. The watch is in apparent good working order but has a crack to the glass and scratches to the lugs etc as expected with a watch of this age and character. Only 5900 of these timepieces were issued for pilots and officers, in a one year order of this exciting antimagnetic chronometer.
A RARE JAPANESE SET OF HAND-PAINTED PLAYING CARDS, HYAKUNIN ISSHU UTA KARUTA EDO PERIOD 1615-1868 Comprising 416 cards, 208 with inscriptions in free cursive sosho script, the other 208 with figures and still lives, all hand-painted in ink, colour and gilt on thick card with gold flakes, the reverse covered in gold leaf, in its original box with paper wrappings and silk covers, a paper label for 'C.Pratt & Sons, Bradford' on the box, each card 7.9cm x 5.5cm, the box 16.5cm x 16cm x 22.3cm. (a lot) Provenance: from a private English playing cards collector. Together with a letter from Sir William Wilkinson (1858-1930), British Sinologist and card collector whose collection is now at the British Museum, addressed to the previous owner and identifying these as hyakunin isshu cards. A RARE JAPANESE KO-KUTANI DISH C.1670 Decorated in red and black enamels with details picked out in gilt, the well painted with a central medallion containing two rabbits beneath flowering peonies, with two butterflies fluttering above, the rim decorated with five lobed panels of flowers on a diaper ground, the rim with old kintsugi gold lacquer restoration, 20.9cm. Provenance: from the collection of Soame Jenyns (1904-1976), Assistant Keeper of Oriental Antiquities at the British Museum (1931-1967). Jenyns published many books on Chinese and Japanese ceramics which are now considered references. Cf. J Ayers, O Impey, J V G Mallet, Porcelain for Palaces, The Fashion for Japan in Europe 1650-1750, p.121 for a box and cover with similar style decoration in red, black and gilt.
A RARE KOREAN WHITE GLAZE ZOOMORPHIC VASE CHOSON DYNASTY Modelled as a double gourd vase on the back of a turtle, the lower half of the vessel of octagonal form and with the eight trigrams drawn in underglaze brown, the eyes of the mythical beast and further details highlighted in colour, the base with a paper collection label for the De Vermes Collection, 21cm. Cf. Le Mus?e Guimet, Paris, for another Korean vase modelled as a vessel on the back of a large turtle.

A fine and very rare Chinese Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) gilt bronze cloisonné scribe's water dropper, probably early seventeenth century, the cylindrical-form pot with flared rim decorated with two five-clawed dragons upon a turquoise ground. Dimensions : Height including the dropper finial 79.07 mm. Diameter across the base 57.20 mm, diameter across the top 52.04 mm, height not including the dropper 60.65 mm, weight not including the dropper 342.3g, gross weight 348.8g. CONDITION REPORT: The item is in very good condition showing time-aged natural wear and discolouration, rubbing to the gilding in keeping with age along with minor surface scuffs to the metal. Detail is good and crisp, in keeping with age some cloisonne cells showing pitting and tiny vacant patches with no signs of damages, cracks or chips. This item appeared recently as a feature in the BBC Antiques Road Show from the Civic Centre, Newcastle Upon Tyne, series 40, episode 26.

A RARE CHINESE UNDERGLAZE RED 'DRAGON' BOWL 1ST HALF 16TH CENTURY The gently flared body decorated with two scaly dragons chasing flaming pearls of wisdom against an incised wave ground, the centre with a slight recess and painted with two further dragons in pursuit of sacred jewels, with simple red bands to the rim and tapering foot, the slightly convex base with a six character Xuande mark and labels for R H R Palmer, The Oriental Ceramic Society 1950 Exhibition, and F O S & M M Dobell, 21cm. Provenance: Bluett & Sons, 29th September 1944, purchased by R H R Palmer for £30, collection no.584; sold at Sotheby's London, 27th November 1962, lot 21, and again on 24th March 1964, lot 86, purchased by Bluett & Sons for £220 on behalf of F O S and M M Dobell, no.48, and thence by descent. Exhibited: The Oriental Ceramic Society Ming Polychrome Exhibition, 1950, no.133. Illustrated: S Jenyns, Ming Pottery and Porcelain, 1953, pl.49A, and p.55, where this bowl is discussed. THE PALMER DRAGON BOWL This rare, elegantly shaped bowl is striking for is lively painting of striding dragons pursuing flaming pearls amidst anhua waves and above rocks. The designs were first incised, then the dragons were applied with copper colorant and, finally, the bowl was covered with a colourless glaze. The anhua designs are only faintly visible, shadowed by the deep red of the dragons, pearls and flames. The dating of these bowls has been long debated and remains controversial, with opinions differing between a mid Ming and Kangxi attribution. Two smaller bowls, with similar dragons and Kangxi marks but no anhua decoration are in the British Museum, one in the Percival David Collection, the other donated in 1926 by C T Loo. Another smaller bowl, with a typical Lang Tingji (Governor of Jiangxi province, 1705-1712) Kangxi mark, is in the Shanghai Museum. However the larger Xuande marked bowls, such as this Palmer/Dobell piece, differ in several important aspects from the Kangxi examples. All have gentle flared rims, with a single line drawn to the inside edge, central design (usually inward facing double dragons, chasing pearls), and a recessed base. The Kangxi pieces have straighter rims with plain, undecorated interiors, and no base recess. Elements of the dragon designs, such as the elbow hair, and body and tail fins, are executed differently on the Xuande mark pieces when compared to the Kangxi examples. The foot is wide, the inside base is convex and, where the glaze meets the biscuit, the edges have burnt a strong orange. The Kangxi pieces have a narrower foot, the inside bases are usually flat, and the burning to the glaze edges are less pronounced. The Xuande mark was first copied in the Chenghua period and is seen again in the Zhengde period. The style and calligraphic strokes used, size and spacing of the Xuande mark on this bowl is very similar to that seen Imperial Zhengde pieces such as those in the Gugong Museum, Beijing. See for examples ‘Mingdai Hongzhi Zhengde Yuyao Cigi. Jingdezhen Yuyao Yizhi Chutu Yu Gugong Bowuyuan Cang Chuanshi Ciqi Dubiai’ - ‘Imperial Porcelain from the Reign of Hongzhi and Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty. A Comparison of Porcelain from the Imperial Kiln Site at Jingdezhen and the Imperial Collection of the Palace Museum’, Beijing, 2017, vol.2, catalogue numbers 222/223 and 248/249, together with a partiality reconstructed dish with incised dragon amongst waves in green and red glaze, excavated at the Imperial kiln site, Zhushan, in 2014, catalogue numbers 271. The drawing of the mark is very different to that seen on Kangxi period Xuande copies. For examples see two Kangxi period monochrome stem bowls, both with very well written Xuande marks, along with a Kangxi period bowl copying Xuande lotus scrolls in underglazed red, with an apocryphal Xuande mark, all in the Shanghai Museum. A RARE CHINESE CINNABAR LACQUER SQUARE-SECTION TREASURE BOX AND COVER QIANLONG 1736-95 The four sides of the cinnabar lacquer cover carved with peony, prunus, lingzhi, rockwork and other plants against a finely incised geometric ground, with key fret to the edges, surmounted by a large lion dog resting a paw on her young, her eyes inset with shell discs, the box intricately decorated all over with fylfots, octagonal floral diaper and key fret, one side with a drawer and two doors which open to reveal a further drawer, the top of the box with a removable tray which holds four small square boxes and covers, each painted with a central flowerhead surrounded by scrolling lotus designs, all raised on a cinnabar lacquer base incised with a band of key fret, 36cm. 1958 RARE BUDDY HOLLY AND THE CRICKETS PROGRAMME. A rare original 1958 Buddy Holly and the Crickets souvenir programme for the March tour. Cover and contents are in good condition though inner pages are loose from binding. Also to include: later reproduction copy of the same programme, a promotional 'Nixa' postcard bearing signature in the hand of Gary Miller, a slip of paper bearing inscription and signature in blue ink in the hand of Frances Tanner of the Tanner Sisters. Condition is generally very good.
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN - US STERLING SOUND ACETATE. Extremely rare 1978 12" single sided metal acetate of the title track from the album; this is an alternate version (Take 28). The acetate plays at 33 1/3 RPM. Printed label states 'STEREO 33RPM DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN TAKE 28 3-30-78 and dated 4/12/78'. On playback, the vocal parts are slightly different, perhaps most noted at 3:08 where the word 'ready' is insert in the line 'I'll be there on time, ready to pay the cost'. The acetate was cut on April 12, 1978 almost two months before the LPs release date. Presented in very fine Ex condition with just a couple of very light and faint surface markings with no lifting/peeling or damage to the aluminum lacquer on the playing surface. Extraordinary.

HEROES DEL SILENCIO - ENTRE DOS TIERRAS 7" (ORIGINAL DUTCH RELEASE - EMI 1225517). Scorchingly rare original 1992 Dutch pressing of the mega Entre Dos Tierras from the Spanish rockers (EMI 12 2551 7). The record is in superb Ex+ or archive condition showing few discernible markings. The original picture sleeve is in very clean Ex condition with a little ringwear on the reverse.
Space interest: Rare 1969 signed photograph of the Apollo moon-landing crew and accompanying letter from Neil Armstrong. This iconic image showing Apollo 11 crew of Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar module Pilot Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldin, hand-signed by each member and dedicated ‘to Glynn and Clinton’ with best wishes, image 18 x 24cm, applied with commemorative U.S. moon landing stamps, in glazed frame, mounted verso with letter to E. L. Smith, date. Stamped ‘Aug 12 1969’ signed from Neil Armstrong - ‘...I am sorry I was unable to reply before the launch, but we were all extremely busy. I have enclosed an autographed crew picture which your twin boys, Glen and Clinton may enjoy...’ An extremely rare and poignant document, sent less than a month after the Eagle touched down on July 20th 1969.
