There is glaze crazing and there are some minor glazed pieces away from the left hand turret. There are also minor pieces of glaze and pottery away to the underside of the foot (see image). There is also a piece away from the right hand flag at the back of the flag where the orange stripe meets the white stripe.
A rare framed and glazed early 18th century needlework sampler; central lozenge detailing The Lord's Prayer, dated 1731, old typed paper label verso, 27.5cm x 18cm CONDITION REPORT: The outer stitching looks Ok, the inner stitching looks like it has faded somewhat and on the top right hand side of the lozenge with the Lord's Prayer looks like staining and it has darkened. See images
An early and rare Hogarth framed and glazed sampler: the Ten Commandments; Mary Hines worked this October 30th ... in the year of our Lord 1726; the sampler 30cm x 22.5cm CONDITION REPORT: It is not known if this is glued on as it is under glass. The back of the piece has obviously been re-backed many years ago and now has a cardboard back on it with paper tape around the edges which is discoloured and has obviously been there for a fair period of time. Condition is not good, discoloured lower left hand corner, it is darker on the upper left hand corner, also dark lower right hand corner and where the last words Our Lord and the date 1726 is there is some degeneration of material as there is on the left hand side approx. 5cm up into the lower main body of text on the right hand side. Also several other places where the material has deteriorated.
A rare late-18th century sampler with text, flowers etc.: Betty Watson born June 1st 1787; 42cm x 36.5cm CONDITION REPORT: This is rather dark around the edges and the item is loose from the frame and glass. It has faded a little but overall the condition is not too bad, it has also faded a little around the edges.
A large, fine and rare mid-19th century French chestnut or ash femme de chambre; the outset cornice above four glazed doors opening to reveal shelf space, four concave moulded drawers below and four panelled doors, each with a central lozenge design, original ironwork and of very good colour, raised on plinth base, circa 1840, 230cm wide x 53cm (deepest) x 195cm high, together with original copy invoice from Denzil Grant (Suffolk Fine Arts Limited) for £9,600 CONDITION REPORT: This is in two sections top and bottom and each section is exceptionally heavy. The cornice and plinth base are not removable. Condition is generally commensurate with age. The second door in from the left has a cracked pane also the first door in from the right. As a French provincial rustic piece it is in reasonable order. There is evidence of historic woodworm mostly to the left hand side upper section and also some minor historic worm to the right hand side. This does have some splits to the sides but these are really just where the individual planks are parting having shrunk across the grain through time. The piece retains a good overall colour and does show minor scratching and scuffing mostly commensurate with age and in our opinion this would benefit from a decent wax polishing. Some sections of wood have split naturally (notably the right hand vertical where the bottom hinge is on the top section and it looks as if these have been filled some years ago). This comes with an original copy invoice from Denzil Grant (Suffolk Fine Arts Ltd) for £9,600 as originally supplied to the clients.
A fine and rare Clichy sulphide paperweight; of faceted form with full-length sulphide portrayal of Napoleon Bonaparte against a blue ground with an outer garland of white canes interspersed with pink and green roses; 8.6cm diameter x 6.2cm high. Provenance: Sotheby's November 1986 (Lot No. 386), ex Guggenheim Collection CONDITION REPORT: The piece does exhibit some “minor” surface scratching and marks etc., but no major problems, commensurate with age. The underside of the paperweight exhibits some scratches and marking around the foot area which is to be expected given the age. No major problems noted. See images.
