Our example is rare as it was drawn on Warhol’s “Andy Warhol Enterprises, Inc.” letterhead at the Factory (or as it was known then, “the office”). Ample margins. Fine impression. Fine condition; affixed to very thin and supple archival acid-free support sheet, not mount/board. Literature/catalogue raisonne: cf. Feldman/Schellmann II.365. Overall size: 8 1/2 x 9 5/8 in. (216 x 244 mm). Rare. Issued to promote the 'Vesuvius by Warhol' exhibition at the Museo di Capodimonte, Naples, Italy. The show consisted of over 30 separate images of Warhol's renditions of Vesuvius. Apparently there were very small quantities of this lithograph printed for distribution at the opening night reception and they went quickly. The reception was held on July 17th, 1985 and the exhibition ran from July 18th to October 31st. Printed by La Buona Stampa. Collection of three Georgian "beehive" Valentines (also known as "cobwebs", "flower cages" or "birdcages"), rare mechanical cards in which a secret message is revealed by pulling a piece of thread to lift concentric circles of a web. 1: Hand-painted rose and forget-me-nots lifting to reveal gilt illustration of flame on sacred hearth with quiver and arrows, embossed border, Dobbs Patent New Bridge Street Blackfriars, handwritten verse ('All the powers of love combine, A flame to kindle in this heart of mine, May Cupid, sweetest Girl, thy heart incline, To love, and be my Valentine'), inscribed to verso, 'Painted for and sent to Ann Georgiana Le Boutillier', backed with protective sheet; 2: Hand-painted roses and blossom lifting to reveal watercolour depiction of church surrounded by applied silver & gold wreath, hand-coloured lithographic butterflies, embossed border, c.1825, handwritten message ('This faithful Heart Will never prove untrue'); 3: Watercolour basket of flowers lifting to reveal gilt rose, embossed border, Westwood, c.1825 (3)

An incredible rare mid-20th century 1950's ' BP ' Avery Hardoll petrol pump. Lovingly and sympathetically restored to immaculate condition - includes an original rare ' BP ' glass globe to top. Rectangular form, in green BP livery, with glass viewing panel in chrome frame above painted notation. Black hose with original period nozzle. Working light to top, fully PAT tested. An incredible and impressive display piece. Measures approx: 220cm tall x 55cm wideProvenance: originally from the Workman Garages in Coronation Avenue, Bath. This pump, and the previous lot (lot 450) stood together in the garage from 1952 until our vendor purchased them in 2009. They were ordered from Avery Hardoll together, and have sequential serial numbers to the side. Both pumps are 100% complete, with all the inner workings present. Keys also present. The vendor spent a huge amount of time researching the correct signage and had them professionally signwritten in their correct font, and even checking the correct price of petrol for that area in 1952. They should both be considered as good as when they left the factory.
