Mecklenburg-Strelitz Enlisted Mans Belt Buckle, one-piece stamped steel belt buckle all in field grey. An extremely rare buckle, clearly photographed and described on page 64 of Feldzug 16.

Wuttermberg 26th Dragoons M.15 NCO’s Worn Bluse, an ultra rare tunic worn by a Senior NCO of the 26th Wurttemberg Dragoon Regiment. Standard M.15 construction, deep turned back cuffs, two front flap pockets, 1915 rear skirt, six button fly front. The shoulder boards are fitted with the wartime subdued motifs of the 26th Dragoons with crown above, each board surrounded by frayed NCO’s lace matching the frayed NCO’s lace to the apple green collar, the collar is also fitted with its Wurttemberg rank discs. To either sleeve two strips of NCO lace, loops to the breast for two awards with three loops for a medal ribbon bar above. To the interior lining there are clear size stampings, army corp markings of ‘B.A.XIII’ (Army corp 13) date ‘1915’ with a further regimental stamp of ‘DR.26’ within a rectangle. All nap of cloth excellent. A small area of minor moth nips to the lower front skirt. This tunic is part of a much larger group found by Michael Baldwin to the same NCO. As shown on page 122, 123, 124 and 125 of Feldzug 16.

Prussian Identified 1907/14 74th Regiment Enlisted Mans Tunic, a fabulously rare tunic being the model 07/14 constructed in field grey issue quality cloth, large size, virtually free of moth, all buttons original to the tunic and untouched, complete with its marksmanship lanyard, slip-on shoulder boards for Regiment 74. to the interior there are profuse markings, firstly Army corp 10 with a date ‘1915’ with marked ‘B.A.X.1915’ (Army corp 10) which is the matching army corp markings for the shoulder boards. Below the markings there is an oval stamp for Oldenburg with size stamps below, further down the inner lining is a regimental stamping of ‘O.J.R.91’ which is for Oldenburg Infantry Regiment 91. Within the pocket of the tunic when the tunic was discovered in Germany in the 1970’s an original shoulder board of Oldenburg Regiment 91 was found with an enamelled pin indicating the coat of arms of the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment. Also within the pocket is a hard card booklet with a 125 page short history of Oldenburg Infantry Regiment 91 with the owner’s original name tag ‘Musketier Boger 1st Company’ which we have to assume is the name of the owner of this tunic. Also within the booklet there is a photograph of Boger wearing this tunic in its form as a member of Infantry Regiment 74 with which we assume his wife. The tunic is featured on pages 64,65,66,67 and 69  of Feldzug 15 with fully explanatory diagrammatic photographs how Michael Baldwin has been able to identify the tunic worn in the photograph found in the regimental book to the actual tunic

5th Cuirassiers Enlisted Mans Tunic, a fabulously rare tunic being the model 1908 Cuirassier Kollar for an NCO. Featured on pages 30, 31, 32 and 33 of Feldzug 14. This light field grey green tunic in the most wonderful condition, totally free of any moth damage, complete with its pink and field grey lace, slip-on shoulder boards piped in pink and white with number ‘5’ chain stitched to each shoulder board. Beautiful lace construction to both lower cuffs, two lower pockets with flaps, NCO’s Prussian discs to the collar. To the interior profusely stamped ‘5K 1908 3E.’ (3rd Squadron) with the original owner’s name of ‘Nicoli’ hand applied to the lining material. Further down the lining a series of size stamps. The rear skirt, back panels and joins between sleeves and the main body of the tunic piped in pink, as are the cuff edges.

Model 1910 Enlisted Mans Straight Leg Trousers, a good and rare pair of model 1910 straight leg trousers in steel grey, which have been modified for easy wear with jack boots, the lower part of the legs have been slightly narrowed and shortened, both exterior seams still having their red 1910 pattern strip. Adjuster belt in the waist. Depot patch repair in the crotch area with evidence of moth damage. Size stamping to the upper inner waistband with original owner’s name indelibly marked to the fly area. Also profusely stamped with army corp marking ‘B.A.XVIII’ (Army Corp 18) plus the date ‘1918’, also a French costumier company’s inventory stamp.

WW1 Field Surgeons Kit, a rare piece of medical equipment being a light wood box, 47 x 30 x 13 cm. The box is profusely strengthened across its main body and its corners with brass strapping. To the upper inner lid is the rather stained remains of the packing list and internally a four layered nickel container containing what appears to be the complete surgeon’s field kit, accompanied by other canvas pouches with further instruments. The whole box is then covered in protective canvas cover, which has leather strengthened corners, closing straps, one only remaining and stencilled to the side ‘Truppen Besteck’. Very Rare Steel Handled Entrenching Tool and Carrier, shown in Feldzug 18 pages 180 and 181, complete with its leather carrier. The steel head still retains much original field grey green finish. All of the leather loops, other leather straps and buckles remain strong to the leather carrier. It cannot be expressed how difficult it is to find the steel handled entrenching tool as against a wood handled entrenching tool.

Pioneer Wire Cutter Carrier, a rare accessory being the belt loop wire cutter carrier for holding the Model 1911 pioneer wire cutters,  all in steel,  painted in field grey. The clip loops over the waist belt, the wire cutters are inserted into the open frame and allow to open thus holding themselves by tension within the carrier. Fully photographed in Feldzug 17 page 204.

Prussian Grenadier Regiment 89 Enlisted Mans Shoulder Boards, good matching set of beautifully chain stitched Grenadier Regiment 89 from Mecklenburg Schwerin, a rare small Dukedom. Excellent quality chain stitching with the crown above cut from a block and then expertly stitched to the slate grey shoulder boards with white piping.

Lot 222

Frontline Medical Back Pack, a magnificent and very rare piece of paper cloth equipment being the frontline medical troops tornister. The pack itself with its paper cloth constructed cream centre circle with painted red cross, complete with all of its shoulder strapping, both straps separately maker marked but both match dated ‘1915’, one is army corp marked ‘B.A.III’. All of the correct metallic buckles and leather straps are complete. To the base all of the buckles are complete, one leather closing strap is broken. The closing lock to the tornister, which is opened by a key is maker marked and dated ‘1918’. On opening the tornister the paper instruction label is adhered to the upper inner lid and the base contains six individual metallic compartments, each stencilled with their contents and in the two lower compartments are contained various paper wrapped bandages and cloth wrapped bandages mainly dated ‘1915’, other medicines in glass containers dated ‘1917’ at the base of the tornister, all of the Morphine card containers are present without the Morphine, Featured on pages 186 to 195 of Feldzug 18.

Enlisted Mans Glass Water Bottle, the rare water bottle constructed of glass and covered with paper cloth cover, strung together at its side seam, complete with its metallic belt loop, cork and metal stopper. Slight shredding to the paper cloth on the reverse side. Any glass water bottles for the Imperial German era have to be considered rare, featured on page 182 of Feldzug 18.

Maxim Machine Gun Drag Strap in Paper Cloth, an ultra rare piece of weapon accessory being the long 1½ metre strap constructed in paper cloth with metallic clips for the ability to manually drag a Maxim 08 on its sled mount. Some slight damage to the main body of the strap, otherwise excellent. Featured on pages 84 and 85 of Feldzug 18.

Enlisted Mans Paper Cloth Puttees, a very rare set of enlisted mans full length puttees manufactured in paper cloth for wearing with the late war ankle boots, complete with manufacturer’s label to the interior. Shown on pages 86 and 87 of Feldzug 18.

Enlisted Mans Wood and Leather Jack Boots, an ultra rare pair of the enlisted mans marching boots where the leather soles have been supplemented by wood because of the shortage of leather. Virtually unused. The upper part is with the classic side seams of WWI construction. A leather toe cap and a 2½ cm thick wood sole. Size stamped on the base with what appears to be a maker’s logo in red ink. Both boots are complete with their canvas pullers. Unworn condition.

MP18 Snail Drum Adaptor, a rare accessory being the adaptor clip that enables the snail drum Luger magazine to be fitted to the MP18, the world’s first submachine gun. Much original blackened finish present.

Lot 260

WW1 German Medical Gas Mask, the very rare hood gas mask in its original container used for when wounded soldiers were taken to dressing stations in the event of a gas attack. The hood gas mask, manufactured in rubberised linen with two eyepieces and an aperture for screw in filter is rather shredded, attached to the mask is an old museum label, which reads ‘German gas helmet brought from France by Colonel’ with name indecipherable, with further wording ‘AA & QMG 7th Div gave to me January 1917’ with signature. As a separate item its container with white stencilled instructions to the exterior of the tin, a red cross stencilled onto a white background with its carrying string, the red paint to the red cross is extremely delicate and flaking. Featured on pages 184 and 185 of Feldzug 18.

Four Colour Aircraft Fabric Cross, a fabulously rare 75 x 66 cm Balkan Cross from a Fokker D7, the starboard side from the fuselage, excellent condition as can be seen from the images and extremely rare. Shown on pages 14,15 , 16, 17, 18 and 19 of Feldzug 18.

Rare Balloon Observers Escape Trousers, a highly unusual piece of aviation equipment being what is in effect a pair of field grey heavily corded ¾ length shorts to which is affixed a canvas and rope harness with lovely old German script label attached by string, which reads ‘fliegerhose’. Unfortunately Michael Baldwin passed away before he could complete his own description for Feldzug 18 of the exact designation of this rare piece of equipment, however we can only assume they are a form of an escape equipment for a fixed balloon whereby a rope would be secured inside the basket and to the large metallic clip on the harness where if the balloon was hit the observer was able to jump before the balloon completely deflated. One other theory is they could have been worn by aviators with an early rudimentary parachute affixed to the harness, the trousers are constructed in the identical cloth as a full size WW1 German flying suit shown in “German” Arms by  Krause. Featured on pages 126,127,128 and 129 of Feldzug 18.

Imperial German Aircraft Propeller, a very rare full length propeller measuring 271cm in good overall condition, one slight chip to one tip, complete with both of its manufacturer’s decals with the Iron Cross to the centre with lettering ‘Garuda Feldpropeller’. Central boss all complete. Technical designations stamped to the centre ‘100PS Mercedes 1270 Blattbr 022 SIG 140 ZUG’. Imperial German Stormtrooper Postcards, a very rare full set of stormtroopers postcards, the set of 12 published showing images of activities of the storm troopers with the logo to the front of the 5th (Rohr). Thuringen Infantry Regiment No.72 beautifully woven red crown and cipher non piped. A rare Wurttemberg Dragoon Regiment 26 non piped excellent red ciphers laid on the field grey background. Prussian 2nd Leib Hussar Regiment Feldmutze, an ultra rare feldmutze for an enlisted man in the 2nd Prussian Leib Hussar Regiment. All slate grey body with excellent nap to the cloth, stamped size ‘54’ to the interior. Laying between the national and state cockades are the skull and crossbones of the Regiment. The linen interior is army corp marked ‘B.A.XVII’ (Army corp 17) and clear date of ‘1915. Featured on page 188 of Feldzug 15.

Prussian Jager Battalion Feldmutze, a rare Prussian Jager Battalion feldmutze constructed in the classic Jager green. Three minor moth nips to the crown otherwise good nap to the cloth overall. Jager green body with darker Jager green centre band, complete with both national and state cockades. To the interior it is clearly stamped ‘B.A.VI’ (Army corp 6) and clear large date of ‘1916. Illustrated and described on pages 16 and 17 of Feldzug 16.

Prussian Enlisted Mans Helmet Plate with Waterloo Scroll, the rare field grey Prussian helmet plate with Waterloo scroll worn by Infantry Regiment 74, 77 and 78. good field grey finish, both securing loops intact to the interior and have not been moved. Slight rubbing to the high spots but rare.

Prussian Field Artillery Regiment No.46 Helmet Plate, the rare helmet plate all in gilt brass of Field Artillery Regiment No.46 carrying the Peninsular, Waterloo and Gohrde scroll on the upper part of the plate, worn by the 4th, 5th, and 6th Battalion of Regiment 46, part of the 10th Army Corps with garrison town of Wolfenbuttel-Celle.

Prussian Cuirassier Regiment No. 2 Enlisted Mans Helmet Plate, the ultra rare large size field grey helmet plate for fitting to the metal Cuirassier helmet for the famous Cuirassier Regiment No.2. formed in 1717 part of the 2nd Army Corps. Large Prussian plate with the scroll one-piece stamped into the plate reading ‘HOHENFRIEDBURG 4th June 1745’. Complete with both fixing lugs on the reverse side in their original positions.

Prussian Anhalt Infantry Regiment 93 Enlisted Mans Helmet Plate, the rare enlisted ranks helmet plate for Infantry Regiment 93 Anhalt. Non cut out crown. The scroll ‘Fuerst’ at the lower part of the eagle’s neck with the extra overlay plate with the arms of Anhalt, double constructed in nickel with cut out crown. To the reverse side the plate lugs have been moved and a small repair to the reverse side of the staff on the left hand side of the helmet. Anhalt Regiment 93 part of the 4th Army Corps.

Bavarian Enlisted Mans Chevauleger Pickelhaube, a rare helmet being all leather, this helmet worn by the Bavarian Chevaulegers, the Schwerreiter and Bavarian artillery from November 1916. Medium size skull, some lifting of the outer covering of the leather close to the cruciform. All matching field grey fittings with its correct national and state cockades, original chinstrap, square cut front peak, interior liner all complete and in excellent condition, supple with its original leather drawstring. Profuse markings to the inner rear peak ‘1.CHEV.R’ with clear block ‘1915’ date. As shown on pages 148 and 149 of Feldzug 15.

Lot 96

Prussian Infantry Regiment 92 (Brunswick) Enlisted Ranks Pickelhaube, a helmet photographed and described on four pages of Feldzug 14, pages 40, 41, 42 and 43. This rare helmet is basically in excellent condition, all fittings match in colour. The front plate is the correct plate for the Brunswick Infantry Regiment 92 with the ‘Fuerst’ scroll at the base of the neck of the Prussian eagle. Complete with both its national and correct Brunswick blue and gold cockade. The interior all complete with its leather drawstring. Beautifully marked to the inner back peak with J.R. 92 plus two separate dates. It is unknown as to when the running horse of Hanover or the skull and crossbones would have been removed, this is discussed at great length in Michael Baldwin’s Feldzug 14 description. The images in the work make it appear that the chinstrap is fully fitted to the helmet, in fact this was dressed for the occasion, the original chinstrap is complete with the helmet but is broken at both attachment points.

Lot 99

Prussian Fur Felt Bodied Cloth Covered Enlisted Mans Pickelhaube, a super rare finish and construction for a Prussian ersatz helmet being a basic fur felt body covered with cloth then painted over. The complete helmet is painted in field grey over the afore-mentioned construction. As can be seen from the images there is much flaking of the field grey paint, which gives this helmet great character. All brass matching fittings. Cloth reinforced rear peaks and sides, with its original chinstrap, national and state cockades. The inner highly unusual field grey green substitute ersatz liner is all intact with a long shoelace drawstring. One slight crack to the rear peak. A label attached to the inner rear peak with what appears to be the numbers ‘97’ attached, this may be an old collectors numbering system. One leather wedge holding the front plate to the helmet missing otherwise a superb combat style helmet. Fully illustrated and described on pages 156 and 157 of Feldzug 14.

Prussian Fusilier Regiment No.90 Shoulder Boards, a rare set of the 1915 slate grey stitch-on shoulder boards with the red overlaid monogram of the 90th Fusilier Regiment. The overlaid motifs are beautifully formed and stitched to the shoulder boards.

Prussian Enlisted Mans Ersatz Pickelhaube, a very rare helmet being the Berlin made all tin helmet worn by an enlisted man in a Prussian Reserve Regiment. The all black japanned body has been over-painted in field grey green, there is one small indentation to the crown, which has cracked the olive drab paint off to reveal the original black. A Reserve Cross has been fitted to the centre of the Prussian front plate. Brown leather chinstrap with all matching painted fittings, complete with its national and state cockades. To the interior the light tan leather liner in beautiful supple condition with a section of German newspaper from 1914 folded in-between the main body and the liner for a snugger fit for the wearer. Stencilled in gold size number ‘57’ and a clear date of ‘1914’ to the upper inner crown, which was never over-painted and is in its original black.

Saxon Grenadier Regiment 100 Shoulder Boards, rare service worn and used matched pair of 1915 shoulder boards to the King’s Saxon Leib Grenadier Regiment No.100. the red motifs beautifully formed and stitched to the slate grey body of both stitch-on shoulder boards.

Mecklenburg Officers Shako, a good all leather bodied shako for an officer of Mecklenburg Jager Battalion No.14. Front and back peaks excellent, complete with its large Mecklenburg officers double constructed front plate with flat gilded chin scales, its correct and rare Mecklenburg bullion red, blue and yellow velvet centred field cockade, complete with a national serrated edge cockade fitted to the right hand side of the helmet. Inner leather liner and brown inner silk liner with old collectors label attached to the upper inner crown in German describing the helmet and its history. An original owner’s name hand applied to the inside of the skull.

Lot 135

Prussian Enlisted Mans Ersatz Uhlan Helmet with Field Cover, an ultra rare ersatz helmet being a relatively upper medium sized ‘56’ all tin pickelhaube, the main body is superb with all its original finish remaining with its tin non removable mortarboard top, brass Prussian enlisted ranks front plate, original chinstrap with brass fittings, national black, white and red cockades fitted. To the interior the leather liner all complete with its original leather drawstring, some degrading to the leather at the joint of the liner to the main body. Good interior colour to the skull, which appears to be leather lined. Fitted with its field cover and its black and white Prussian field cockade. To the interior of the cover it is marked to the ‘3rd Uhlan Regiment’ with the manufacturer’s mark of ‘Emil Fabian Berlin’ with date ‘1914’.

Lot 136

Prussian Fur Felt Enlisted Ranks Jager Shako, a rare shako for an enlisted man in a Prussian Jager unit, complete with its very light brass Jager shaped front helmet plate, national cockade and black and white Prussian field cockade fitted, with its original chinstrap. Totally original untouched liner and drawstring complete.

Lot 14

Hessian Regiment 117th Shoulder Boards, rare pair of service used and removed from tunic field grey shoulder boards with blue wool piping. Although not a complete matching pair we believe they have been worn as a pair. Slight moth damage to the lower left hand section of one board. Red motifs in solid form and extremely well stitched to the main grey green body.

Lot 141

Landsturm Infantry Pickelhaube Cover, a rare helmet cover for an infantry pickelhaube, complete with its Landwehr cross and numbers ‘45’ in green cloth. Beautifully photographed on pages 110 and 111 of Feldzug 15, also photographed in Michael Baldwin’s first book Field Grey Uniforms of the Imperial German Army.

Lot 146

Very Rare Paper Cloth Constructed Officers Pickelhaube Helmet Cover, profusely photographed and described on page 15 of Feldzug 17. A company manufacturer’s stamp of ‘Vorn’ to the interior of the front peak of the cover and the remains of lacquer where the helmet cover has lain upon the helmet in heat. A good heavy duty item.

Uhlan Regiment No.6 Shoulder Board, a rare single slip-on shoulder board model 1908 pattern for Uhlan Regiment No.6. Thuringen. Beautiful condition, the woven motif stitched directly to the main field grey green body with crown above.

Lot 151

Model 1918 Camouflage Trench Helmet, as explained in Feldzug 18, to obtain the camouflage version of the M.1918 helmet is extremely rare. Shell size stamped ‘ET66’. To the exterior subdued block camouflage pattern with black separation lines, liner securing rivets present. To the interior the three section light cream padded liner is present, the tip of one tongue is split, two of the leather sections have their inner horsehair pads complete, one is missing. Clips in place to the M.18 liner for the M.18 strap which is unfortunately missing.

Lot 152

M.16 Trench Helmet, stamped size ‘G62’ to the inner shell, this good M.16 trench helmet retains at least 70% of its original field grey green paint finish. Both of the armoured front plate attachment lugs have been filled with wood, which was a common occurrence. The interior liner is in place on its leather band, the leather has solidified, of the three leather sections two retain their inner pads, the tongue to one of the pads is completely missing and the helmet also retains its original extremely rare chinstrap.

Lot 155

1st Foot Guards Camouflage Trench Helmet, being a very good M.17 size 64 shell trench helmet as worn by the 3rd Company of the 1st Foot Guards. The mixture of dark brown and yellow camouflage with light tan separation lines. Foot Guards insignia hand applied to the left hand side of the helmet with large number ‘3’ to the reverse side. To the interior the helmet retains all of its original three pads in mid tan colour. The tips of all six tongues are complete and with its original chinstrap. A rare helmet, as featured on pages 114,115,116 and 117 of Feldzug 18.

Lot 158

Very Rare M.18 Ear Cut Out Helmet with Remains of Camouflage Paint Finish, it is extremely rare to find a camouflage M.18 ear cut out helmet, this example is clearly marked ‘ET64’, as all of the ear cut out helmets are, with the faint remains of its camouflage finish, which has been applied over the rare original flock finish. Both armoured plate attachment lugs have been plugged with wood as quite commonly encountered. To the interior all three of the light cream liner sections remain with all of their tongues. Two have their inner horsehair pads remaining, one is missing and complete with its M.1918 chinstrap pieces, one of which is completely detached from its strap post. The unique carbine clip strap featured only on M.18 helmets has the faint remains of its manufacturer’s stamp and a clear date of ‘1918’. The faint remains of a paper post home label is visible, this is affixed to the inner rear skirt. Featured on pages 142,143,144 and 145 of Feldzug 18.
