Sir John Everett Millais (1829-1896). Autographed letter, 2 Palace Gate, Kensington, 17th February 1884. To Mr Mackenzie. Giving specific instruction regarding the taking and composition of photographs of a girl by a waterfall and rocks with roots of trees and tangled branches. A small sketch on on the final page gives an idea of what is required. This painting referred to could be A Waterfall in Glenfinlas which fits very closely to the description and the sketch, this is recorded as painted in 1853 but it is possible that it was started in 1853 and still underway in February 1854 when Millais wrote this letter, requiring the photos to be done at once.
