AUSTRALIA. Victoria, 1837-1901. Gold sovereign, 1872/1 M. Melbourne. Shield; 2 over 1. In 1871 it was decided to open a second mint in Australia, this time in Melbourne, to service the increasing demand for gold coins. From now coins would bear the same design as the British sovereigns, identified by a mint mark in the lower section of the reverse of the coin. Dies of the new designs and bearing the date 1871 were prepared in London and left Southampton via boat on 30 September 1871. However, after transferring the package to the steamer Rangoon on 1 November, the boat hit a rock on the Southwest coast of Ceylon. Despite this terrible fate all passengers and a small number of packages were saved. The 1872/1 overdate is testament to the survival of at least one of the 1871 dies as local engraver Julius Hogarth was commissioned by the Melbourne mint to create the overdate die. An extremely rare variety with a captivating story and truly historical significance.Young head left, WW on truncation; date below, with 2 struck over 1; VICTORIA DEI GRATIA. / Crowned shield within wreath; mintmark M and national emblems below; BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:. 1964 BRA P-Type Transmission: manualMileage:15248BRA Ltd was formed in 1981 by John Berry and Peter Ibbotson for the purpose of designing, developing and manufacturing a limited number of high-quality reproduction sports car kits styled on famous models of the past but incorporating modern mechanics and safety features. All kits featured professionally engineered jig built, MIG welded steel tube chassis, which do not rely on bodywork for strength. The bodies are very high-quality GRP and the P-Type featured an MGB 1800cc engine and running gear. This example was registered new in 1964 and is believed to have been converted to BRA P-Type specification in 1984. The P-Type was acquired by the current vendor 17 years ago and has been used sparingly throughout his ownership, using it on high days and holidays. Having seen little use in recent years, the P-Type would benefit from light recommissioning but can be enjoyed as is and it runs and drives as you would expect. Accompanying the car are copies of the original BRA brochure, MoT online records and the current UK V5 registration document. Offered without reserve this is a very good opportunity to acquire a rather rare BRA P-Type.Interested parties should note that this example will require recommissioning before use.

Lot 108

1956 Ford Thames Deluxe 7CWT Van Transmission: manualMileage:4072Launched in 1954 as Fords answer to the success of the Morris Minor Commercial was the 'Thames' 300E which shared its bodyshell and 1,172 cc side valve four-cylinder engine with the Ford Squire estate. The van was offered as both a basic 5CWT model or a 'Deluxe' 7CWT panel van with 356kg of load carrying ability. This 7CWT example benefitted from an earlier restoration and is presented in two-tone brown coachwork which is evocative of its era but is now showing signs of age. Overall, the bodywork appears solid with the brightwork and trim in good order. The cabin is basic and functional and features tan leatherette seats which are protected by plastic seat covers that have a period appeal of their own. An original set of factory mudflaps complete the look. This rare Ford is presented to auction with a V5C registration document and offered without reserve. Given that there are fewer than 50 Thames 300E models known to exist, this must be an ideal opportunity for any Ford enthusiast or a perfect promotional vehicle for a small business.

Lot 124

1951 Ford Thames 400E Pick-up Transmission: manualMileage:31046The Ford Thames 400E was introduced in 1957. Production of the range continued until September 1965, by which time a total of 187,000 had been built. Publicity for the model included hiring the Cy Laurie band to make the promotional short film 'Band Wagon', in 1958, preserved in the 'Ford Film and Video Collection' at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. Within only a short period of time a wide variety of special bodies were available from outside suppliers, with Ford approval for these being confirmed in many cases by their inclusion in the Ford Motor Company's official glossy brochures. Mobile shops, milk floats, ambulances, flat platform trucks with generators or compressors and box vans, and the popular pick-up trucks all appeared. This delightful Thames 400E is fitted with a pick-up body and has benefitted from a total restoration. Originally registered on 11th May 1960 this pick-up presents extremely well in Orange and is sign written R and M Gibbs of St. Stephen. We are informed that this 15CWT example drives well and is both attractive and practical. MSL 656 would make an ideal display vehicle or be perfect for classic car meetings. Presented to auction with a V5C registration document and offered without reserve this rare Ford is certain to create a lot of interest.

Lot 135

1992 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon GES 300 Transmission: automaticMileage:103725The Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagon, short for Geländewagen (cross-country vehicle), is characterised by its boxy styling and body-on-frame construction. It uses three fully locking differentials, one of the few vehicles to have such a feature. The G-Class is still in production and is one of the longest produced Mercedes-Benz vehicles in their history with a span of 32 years. It was developed as a military vehicle from a suggestion by the Shah of Iran and offered as a civilian version in 1979. The first major refinements were introduced in 1981, including an automatic transmission, air conditioning, an auxiliary fuel tank, protective headlamp grilles and a cable winch. Fuel injection became available in 1982 when the 230GE was introduced in Turin, along with more comfortable and supportive front seats, auxiliary heating, wider tyres and wheel arches. For 1985, differential locks, central door locking and a tachometer became standard. This example is very well presented in metallic Beryll Blue, (which is actually Green in colour), with cream cloth trim. This GES 300 G-Wagon was originally supplied to Guernsey, the supplied service book shows it was first registered there on 12th June 1992. Unusually well appointed, this GES 300 comes supplied from the factory with metallic paint, automatic transmission, alloy wheels, heated front seats, electric front windows and even air conditioning. The service book also shows over 18 stamps and the accompanying history file shows many more receipts for maintenance and servicing work carried out during the vendor's ownership, many by main Mercedes-Benz dealerships. Today the car presents very well; the interior is well kept for a 31 year old 'utility' car, but perhaps this is indicative of the beginning of the luxury SUV market with little use as compared to a traditional utilitarian vehicle. The paint is also in good condition with only the odd blemish to be expected on a vehicle of this age. Owned by the vendor for the past 24 years, this is a very well-kept example, is in great condition throughout and is reported to run and drive very well, only now reluctantly offered for sale, due to the arrival of a new car. Supplied with the UK V5C registration document, MoT test certificate valid until 1st March 2024, an impressive history file, past MoT certificates, original Becker radio, jack, toolkit and first aid kit. To find such an original, good condition example of this 4x4 legend, let alone with such a comprehensive history file and so well optioned, is rare to say the least and an opportunity not to be missed.

Lot 138

Lot 138 - 1961 Daimler SP250 Dart ‘B’ Specification Transmission: manualMileage:88982The controversially styled Daimler Dart was introduced at the New York Motor Show in 1959 and had its European debut at the 1959 Earls Court Motor Show; the Dart name was soon dropped after the threat of legal action from Chrysler who had a car of that name within their Dodge division. Thereafter this new sports car was known as the Daimler SP250.   Power was provided by the 2.5 litre, Edward Turner designed, V8 that soon became revered for the smoothness in its power delivery with 140bhp on tap.   Independent double wishbone front suspension at the front and half elliptical springs at the rear with a live rear axle kept the car on the road with stopping power supplied by hydraulic disc brakes on all four corners.   The coachwork was constructed with glass reinforced plastic providing a tough, strong and lightweight shape that enhanced performance with exciting and non-traditional looks.   The 120mph plus capability was recognised by the police and they were soon being used as high-speed chase cars.  505 WPU is reported to have undergone restoration in the early 1990's with the body being stripped and repainted in Navy Blue, the interior tidied up and the engine rebuilt. Any other mechanical work required was also reportedly done at the same time. The supplied purchase receipt to the buyer Dr. Jacobs in September 1993, shows the beginning of much care lavished on the car by the Doctor under his ownership, clearly keen to maintain its restored condition. There are many receipts from Classic Automobile Repair Services of Wandsworth, London, under Dr. Jacobs ownership, detailing the care that was given to the car. Amongst these items was the inclusion of fitting a Kenlow fan to aid with engine temperature regulation in London traffic as well as other works such as carburettor rebuilds and steering strip and rebuild. The vendor reports the car to run and drive extremely well, attracting admiring looks wherever it goes.Supplied with the UK V5C registration document and history file. With a desirable low ownership, this rare, early 'B' specification SP250 offers great usability and looks to match.

Lot 143

1986 Land Rover Defender 90 V8 Transmission: manualMileage:112937The Land Rover 90 V8 is equipped with a 3.5 litre V8 engine that provides an impressive amount of power, making it ideal for off-road adventures and heavy-duty work. It features a boxy and utilitarian design with a tough chassis and four-wheel drive system that made it capable of traversing difficult terrain. Today, the 1986 Land Rover 90 V8 is a highly sought-after classic car for those who appreciate its iconic design and legendary off-road capability. This rare V8 example was registered in May 1986 and is painted in bright metallic blue with a contrasting black roof and black wheel arches. This look is enhanced with larger alloy wheels and all terrain tyres. It is fitted with side steps, a rubber boot liner and has tinted glass side panels. It comes with its service book showing 14 services, mostly Aston Martin with the most recent service carried out in June 2022 at 75,000 miles. Its powerful 4.3 litre V8 is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and sounds fantastic. This is the most desirable of this model being a manual gearbox and it is rare to find one in this condition which is superb.

1961 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster Flat Floor Transmission: manualMileage:Introduced in 3.8 litre form in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type caused a sensation when it appeared with instantly classic lines and 150mph top speed. While, inevitably, the car's stupendous straight-line performance and gorgeous looks grabbed the headlines, there was a lot more to the E-Type beneath the skin. The newcomer's design owed much to that of the racing D-Type and, indeed, the E-Type would be one of the last great sports cars developed directly from a successful competition ancestor. Just as in the D-Type, a monocoque tub formed the main body/chassis structure while a tubular space frame extended forwards to support the engine.Manufactured in 1961, chassis 850327 was delivered to its first owner Mr. J Langman of Gloucestershire in January 1962. Presented in its original specification of Old English White coachwork over a contrasting red interior and black hood, this E-Type is a matching numbers example. Treated to a comprehensive restoration in 1990 by Fulbridge Motor Company including extensive work to the body, and later in 1995 the engine was extensively rebuilt by Thoroughbred Car Services Ltd. More recently, this Jaguar was the subject of a respray in its original colour of Old English White coachwork. As such the paintwork presents in very good condition throughout with very few blemishes to report as does the interior. The E-Type is also fitted with an uprated rear differential for more user-friendly road use, although the original is offered with the car. The vendor reports that this E-Type drives as it should being used on the occasional weekend, and on our viewing, it fired up with ease and sounded superb!  Accompanying this very special flat floor is a sizeable history file including the Jaguar vehicle identification sheet, confirming its matching numbers status and original specification. Many old MoT test certificates, old sales invoices, service records, many invoices detailing the multiple restorations, photographs of the car during the current vendors ownership, and the current V5C registration document. A 3.8 litre 'flat floor' E-Type is a rare find and one as good as this, with its comprehensive history, is sure to appeal to collectors and investors alike.

1976 Lamborghini Urraco P300 Transmission: manualMileage:63515In accordance with their usual practice of naming their cars after fighting bulls, it was fitting that this new, junior, V8 Lamborghini was named 'Urraco' which approximately translates as 'little bull'. Its 2+2 configuration hinted at Lamborghini's grand touring roots and its distinctive styling by Gandini displays a family likeness to the fabulous Countach. The V8 engine, however, was a departure from the traditional V12 and may have been indicative of Lamborghini's decision to have a look at a different market where the Porsche 911 and Ferrari Dino 246 currently reigned supreme. The most developed Urraco was the P300, of which approximately 205 were made between 1975 and 1979. The P300's engine had a larger stroke than the P250, upping displacement to 2,996cc and providing 265bhp at 7,800rpm. The P300's is a considerable step up from the P250 with its chain driven, quad cam engine proving both more powerful and robust, as well as the addition of a brake servo ensuring the car's stopping ability matched its improved performance.First registered on 1st May 1976, this stunning stainless steel bumpered example presents beautifully in its metallic grey paintwork with tan interior. Sitting on a set of incredibly rare, new old stock Campagnolo magnesium wheels, this car is unusual in that the wheel's centre caps are clipped in, a feature not possible when these types of wheels have been refurbished, (the centre caps are then usually glued back in). Details like this are a clue as to the quality of the car. Maintained for some time by the very well reputed Lamborghini specialists Colin Clarke Engineering, the car has had very light use by the vendor who has been keen to maintain its beautiful condition. Anything that the car has required has been done by Colin Clarke Engineering and the vendor reports the car to run and drive extremely well. An example of this is that Colin Clarke removed the engine and rebuilt the gearbox as well as checking the clutch in September 2021 at a cost of £10,146. The original four spoke steering wheel remains and the interior was re-upholstered to a high standard in tan leather, in 2014, at a cost of £6,600. Complementing the new interior, the then owner is reported to have had the car repainted at around the same time. All the relevant badges and stainless steel trim are present, even the original Blaupunkt radio cassette player is in situ, making this a rare, arguably concours condition example of these handsome 1970's Italian sportscars.Supplied with a V5C registration document and file of receipts amongst other information. With only three former keepers in the UK since its registration in the UK in 1990, this excellent example is ready to be shown off and hold its own at any prestigious event as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the esteemed Lamborghini brand.

1980 Ford Escort RS2000 Transmission: manualMileage:48419The squarer-styled Escort Mk. II version appeared in January 1975 with the first production models having rolled off the production lines on 2nd December 1974. Unlike the first Escort (which was developed by Ford of Britain), the second generation was developed jointly between the UK and Ford of Germany. Codenamed 'Brenda' during its development, it had the same mechanical configuration as the Mk. I Escort. The estate and van versions used the same panelwork as the Mk. I but with the Mk. II front end and interior. The car used a revised underbody which had in fact been introduced as a running change during the last six months of the life of the Mk. I. The car was a success with just four body styles by competing in many different market niches where rival manufacturers had multiple models. The 'L' and 'GL' models were in the mainstream purchased by the private sector, the 'Sport', 'RS Mexico' and 'RS2000' in the performance market; the 'Ghia' for an untapped small car luxury sector and 'base' models for the fleet market. During the second half of the 1970s, the Escort continued to prove hugely popular with buyers in Britain. Production, after an incredibly popular model run, ended in Britain in August 1980 with other countries following soon after. This absolutely superb example of this highly sought-after British classic is presented in Salmon Pink (Signal Red 80) with chocolate brown cloth interior. We are informed by the vendor that the mileage is genuine at 48,000 and he is the fourth keeper from new. This car was on show in a Vauxhall dealership showroom for 19 years and recommissioned in 2016. The car has never been welded and all panels are original. It sits on correctly refurbished four-spoke RS alloys and new Pirelli CN36 tyres (including spare), original style steel exhaust system fitted and in the last six months, he has replaced a faulty lamination ignition with a new old stock lamination ignition system. The car has a new battery, three year ceramic coating treatment and its only been run on Esso synergy fuel (less ethanol) and runs beautifully we are told. The glass sunroof was replaced with a full length and fully restored Webasto sunroof and the vinyl roof covering was also renewed, as was its headliner. The original four-speed gearbox has been changed/upgraded to a fully rebuilt 2.8 type five-speed, correctly adapted and fitted with the same gear ratios as standard but plus fifth! A GS classics quick shift and cross member also fitted to fit the RS tunnel with no cutting. This Escort wants for nothing and is in fabulous condition. A rare Ford which is fast gaining pace in the collector's eye!

2003 Bentley Arnage T Transmission: automaticMileage:127418The Arnage T can lay claim to the title of world's fastest saloon, needing all but the last two spots on its 170mph speedometer. It is powered by another version of the 6.75 litre Rolls-Royce, V8 engine but treated to what Bentley described as 'the most thorough re-engineering of its life'. Other changes included the adoption of a 'drive-by-wire' throttle to go hand-in-glove with Bosch's Electronic Stability Program which replaced the Red Label's traction control but what really gives this nearly three-ton car its immense poise is a revised suspension that features 57% more roll stiffness than the Red Label. The car's basic structure is also 10% stiffer which means there are no creaks and squeaks of the sort that distinguished previous generations of Bentleys. This lovely three owner example is presented in Silver Storm with Linen leather interior. The servicing was carried out by Broughtons of Surrey up until 2010 with invoices totalling £8083.54 and from 2010 to 2022 the car was looked after by N.Sandell Rolls Royce and Bentley specialists with   invoices totalling £32,853.80 €“ which shows clearly that this rare and sought after Bentley Arnage T has indeed been kept with no expense spared in its lifetime. The previous owner, who was only   the second owner having purchased the car in 2005,   had been the only driver predominantly and being generally the only individual in the car has resulted in the interior being in excellent general condition and still is as the present owner has used it sparingly. A great luxury tourer which ouzes opulence but has terrific performance to match. Rare indeed!

1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL California Transmission: automaticMileage:65513The stylish Mercedes-Benz W113 was presented at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show and replaced both the expensive 300 SL and entry-level 190 SL with one medium-priced two-seat sports car. The SL was a huge success, with 48,912 sold in nine years, and is now considered a true masterpiece. The body combines the elegantly trim look of contemporary Mercedes saloons with a simple grille derived from the 300 SL. Béla Barényi conceived the patented concave hardtop, soon called the 'Pagoda.' Like the best designs, the W113 has proven to be timeless in its appeal. We are pleased to offer this superb low mileage, three owner from new example which is an original and rare 'California Coupé', with the single bench seat as designated by option '417' on its factory record.Originally purchased in July 1969 by its first owner, a Mr. Luigi Bresciani an Italian ice cream manufacturer who ordered the Mercedes as a retirement present to himself. Interestingly Mr. Besciani ordered the Pagoda in UK right hand drive specification but had it delivered to his Italian residence. Later in 1972 he returned to England to join his family bringing the Pagoda with him. The Pagoda remained his pride and joy until 1982 when at the age of 80 he found his health failing and with great reluctance arranged for the car to be sold. At this stage, the car had covered some 51,000 miles. The car was then sold to its second owner, who at this time carried out various maintenance work to insure the car was ready for further use. The Mercedes was enjoyed for a further 8,000 miles and was taken around the country as well as on the continent. More recently 868 VC was purchased by our vendor at Historics auction for a figure of £113,200, elated by his purchase there were no thoughts to sell until he received the news that his driving licence was to be rescinded therefore he is forced to sell after a relatively short tenure.Offered with over four decades of single ownership, this superb example has covered a mere 65,513 miles and has had just three owners from new having been purchased recently for over £113,000. Accompanying the Pagoda is a sizeable history file with many documents, sundry bills, service records, MoT test certificates, and even the March 1983, edition of Classic and Sports which the car featured in!Having been dry stored since 1982, this Mercedes was last MoT'd in the early 2000's and has been used sparingly since but recently recommissioned by our vendor and running as it should. Presented in very good, preserved condition the paintwork retains a deep shine and shows little sign of age as does the interior and chrome work. Having covered little mileage from new and with a superb three owner history, this example represents a fantastic opportunity to acquire an ever-desirable right hand drive 280 SL Pagoda. We expect this wonderful example to be keenly contested at auction.

This ultra luxurious long wheelbase version of the Jaguar saloon, codenamed X300, was equipped with every option available plus a few more. Limited to a worldwide production run of 100 each of the 4.0 litre and 6.0 litre versions they, unsurprisingly, sold quickly. 2005 MG ZT Estate Transmission: manualMileage:63444In 2001, three years after the launch of the Rover 75, and less than a year after the demerger of MG Rover from BMW, the MG ZT and MG ZT-T were launched. During the cars' development, the models were codenamed X10 and X11, for the saloon and estate versions, respectively. The basic shape and styling of the MG ZT remained the same as for the Rover 75 but with changes to the front bumper, now with an integrated grille, and detail alterations including colour coding of the chromed waistline, a new boot lid plinth, and different alloy wheels and tyres sizes. During the first few months of 2004, MG Rover facelifted the design of the ZT and ZT-T to a less retro look, at the same time as the Rover 75 received a facelift. This didn't feature much in the way of mechanical differences to the ZT, most changes were merely aesthetic. The main changes to the car included the replacement of the twin headlamps, with a new, clear single headlamp unit. Between 2003 and 2006 the top of the ZT range, and the rarest, was rear wheel drive and powered by the Ford 4601cc V8 engine giving 300bhp, 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.This rare MG ZT is best described as a 'wolf in sheep's clothing'. A relatively unassuming vehicle from the outside, with the only visible feature being the large bore exhausts. However, start the engine and suddenly you become aware of the Ford Mustang 4.6 litre V8 under the bonnet. This is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox making this a true drivers car and one to really enjoy on the open road. Performance is put at 260bhp and 407NM of torque. The interior is trimmed in black leatherette and cloth seats with electric windows, electric mirrors and digital climate control with air conditioning. Showing just 63,444 miles on the odometer, the previous owner fitted a bespoke (and very expensive)  stainless steel  exhaust system with sports cats and central silencer box, coupled to an OE back-box, helping  unleash a little more sound of the American dream. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until October 2023, together with the original book pack and a collection of invoices. This stylish MG estate is both a capable load carrier and a truly exciting car to drive. These were built in relatively small numbers, it is thought less than 200 were manufactured, thus this could well prove to be a fine investment.Guide £8,000- £11,000

1989 Innocenti 990 SE Transmission: manualMileage:26600Innocenti were originally an affiliate of the British Leyland Group, until being bought by Alejandro DeTomaso in 1976. The Innocenti 'Nuova Mini' was produced between 1974 and 1993 and was originally a replacement for the Mini. It was designed by Bertone, featuring a three-door hatchback body and retained the trusty 'A series' engine. The mechanics would eventually be replaced by Daihatsu units in 1982. A longer wheelbase version, the 990, was released in 1986 and had more modern Mini Clubman underpinnings. The later cars were true rivals for cars such as the Renault 5 and Fiat 127, but were never offered in right hand drive guise, so are something we are not so familiar with on these shores. This particular example spent a vast majority of its life in Turin, Italy with one owner from new until its import to the UK in August 2021. The car is showing less than 27,000km, which the condition would suggest is very likely genuine. The overall condition is very impressive, with only a few age-related marks, which are to be expected. The car was fitted with new tyres in 2022, and had a new battery in March 2023, meaning it is ready to take on the summer.Being powered by a 993cc Daihatsu three-cylinder engine, this may well be the perfect starter classic for a young enthusiast or make for an ultra-rare daily classic. Inside you will find electric windows and wing mirrors, internal hatchback lever and importantly a five-speed gearbox. Parts supply is strong and our vendor reports that the car attracts attention and sparks conversation wherever it goes.
