D-Day Veteran Collection. A truly remarkable selection of memorabilia, saved by D-Day veteran Private Eric Hodgson, Royal Army Medical Corps, Army Service No. 14333477, 32 Field Dressing Station. Private Hodgson was part of Task Force "L" which was assigned to reinforce the initial landing at Gold Beach on D-Day, 6th June 1944. This really quite stunning and fascinating collection consists of the following: Small black and white photo of Private Hodgson, his Royal Army Medical Corps pin badge, four of his medals awarded: The 1939-1945 Star, The France and Germany Star (instituted after D-Day for those serving in operations from then on), The Defence Medal (awarded for non-operational military service during WWII) and the War Medal (instituted for people who served full-time in the armed forces for at least 28 days between September 39 - September 45). That's not all. Also included in this fine collection are the following: Original slip of typed paper, given to Private Hodgson prior to D-Day. It bears the wording "KEEP THIS", then details his camp, commander, serial number and force. Another card titled WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU LAND. This was given to Private Hodgson with instructions on what to do. His in particular, were "go immediately to the nearest personnel transit area". 1 x 5 franc note, 1 x 10 franc note which was given to Hodgson. A selection of small photographs of his task force on D-Day. A field service postcard, which personnel were required to send with vague messages such as "I am quite well" or I am wounded". For security purposes, they weren't allowed to disclose any other information. A very tatty (although I'm not surprised!) printed message from Dwight Eisenhower given to soldiers and airmen after D-Day, congratulating them on the task. A handwritten letter from Private Hodgson, dated 27th June 1944 sent to his mother and father from Base Office, BWEF. A duty pass for Hodgson to visit Brussels in 1944. A really incredible selection of D-Day Memorabilia. So rare to get items such as this which have survived after all these years. Good condition. Est £100 - 150
