Carpathia, Captain Rostron", 2ins diameter Note: The S.S.Carpathia arrived two hours after the Titanic had sunk and succeeded in rescuing 705 survivors from the ship's life boats. Rare WWII para-dummy, also known as 'Rupert'.  This was a military deception device intended to imitate a paratrooper drop to cause the enemy to move forces unnecessarily.  They were sand filled and intended to explode on contact with the ground to hide their presence.  Approximately 500 dummies were dropped on D-Day alongside 6 SAS soldiers who were dropped with them and played recordings of loud battle noises in order to distract German troops from the real invasion.  Made from hessian or sandbag material, the dummies have cords at the head, hands and feet for filling sand and contain a small folded cotton parachute, in unused condition
