A Chinese pale celadon jade and zitan ‘sanduo’ ruyi sceptre, 18th/19th century, the jade plaques carved in high relief with the Three Abundances (sanduo), the head with peaches and a bat, the middle a Buddha’s hand citron and the opposing end with a pomegranate, the stone of good even tone, the scrolled zitan frame, suspended with an endless knot silk tassel, 55cm long, some minor losses and glue repairs to the zitanThe combination of peach, Buddha’s hand citron and pomegranate, symbolise longevity, good fortune, and the wish for many sons.***CONDITION REPORT***There are some losses to the zitan surrounds for the jade plaques. The neck of the sceptre has been glued re-glued to the head on the reverse with some old glue still around the area. The rear of the sceptre has a chip to the zitan at the back and some of the visible age cracks to the timber, probably a later brass suspension loop and silk tassel (although still probably antique). Jade plants are probably held in position with some wiring and the largest and smallest plaques are wobbly but do not fall out. The central plaque has been later glued in position. The chain between the cover and handle has split.
