Fossil: An exceptionally rare and large positive and negative impression of a Stenophlabus sp. Dragonfly (Cymatophlebia longialata) Solnhofen, Germany, Jurassic with dendrites around plate edge specimen 12cm.; 5ins by 19cm.; 7½ins Solnhofen in Germany is one of the most famous and important fossil localities in the world, and it is from here that the celebrated Archaeopteryx (the first known bird) was found. The quarries around Solnhofen were originally mined for the beautiful lithographic slate they contained and the process of lithography was invented using this stone. While digging, the quarrymen often came across the remains of a variety of different creatures perfectly preserved in the rock. Small dinosaurs, crocodiles, pterosaurs, plants, sea urchins, fish and sometimes - although very rarely - even insects, like the dragonfly offered here.

Sapphire and diamond cushion cluster ring, the central mixed cut stone 14.25 x 10.94 x 8.72mm, surrounded by fourteen Swiss cut diamonds, approximately 1.68ct in total, ring size M+, gross weight 9g. Condition report: hallmarked "Plat", "18ct"; diamonds estimated colour J-L, clarity I1-!2. Estmated characteristics of the sapphire by SafeGuard "medium to bright blue Ceylon...calculated 13.71 metric carat". Overall dimensions of the setting 21.71 x 17.88mm.
Aquamarine and diamond ring, 1930`s, the central stone 12.37 x 8.82 x 8.07mm, approximately 5.37ct, flanked by single cut melee diamonds, in "Plat" setting, ring size O, gross weight 6.6g. Condition report: slightly greenish colour, even, slight abrasion, cleavage, feather; setting slightly uneven, shank good.
A Victorian pink stone suite, adapted, in original shield-shaped fitted leather case, the brooch of yellow precious metal (tests for 18ct gold) set to the centre with five oval cut pink hardstones (believed to be sapphires) interspersed with graduated beads in a complex oval mount with ropetwist decoration and set either side with curled textured leaves and further bead embellishment, 4.6 x 2.7cm; the earrings en suite have been mounted end to end and set as a second brooch, also test for 18ct gold, length 4.3cm, but the fitted case clearly shows how each earring was originally hung from a wire hook
A two stone diamond ring, the two diamonds well-matched for size, colour and clarity, one an old round brilliant cut and the other a modern round brilliant cut, claw set to a crossover mount and fine shank, in unmarked white on yellow precious metal, size P½, cased; estimated total weight of diamonds 1.41cts
A lavender sapphire, diamond and pearl bar brooch, the oval cut pale lavender coloured sapphire collet set between trios of old round brilliant cut diamonds around 4mm pearls, on a narrow bar, in white on yellow precious metal, clasp with safety push; length of bar 5.8cm, of cluster 2.7cm The lavender coloured stone is presumed to be a sapphire: the setting makes taking an RI reading extremely difficult, even remotely, but it seems to be at least 1.7; it is quite strongly pleochroic, has no fluorescence in either LW or SW UV, has a hardness of over 8.
A blue zircon bar brooch together with another gemset brooch, the knife-edge bar brooch millegrain collet set with a round cut blue zircon in the centre and two slightly smaller zircons at the ends, in unmarked white on yellow precious metal, clasp with safety catch, length 6.2cm; the second brooch late 19th century of open fin-de-siècle style, set with graduated seed pearls and a central step cut pale green stone, possibly an emerald, set in yellow precious metal, hand-engraved `15ct`, width 3.6cm, cased (2)
A Georgian pale blue paste parure in fitted case, the aquamarine coloured pastes, all claw set in closed back settings of yellow precious metal (tests for 14/15ct gold), comprising a graduated cushion cut rivière necklace with hidden box clasp and central stone with hook to take a pendant, length 43cm; a pair of bracelets of near uniform cushion cut stones with the same box clasps, each 18cm long, and which may be worn together as a necklace; two pendants / brooches (either of which fits on the necklace), the first a Latin cross form of eight pearcut pastes with bead terminations radiating from an oval-cushion cut stone, length with pendant loop 4.3cm; the other of girandole form with three pearcut stones radiating above a round cut stone and three pendant pearcuts with bead terminations, integral curved pin, length with loop 3.7cm; and also a smaller bow form brooch with a central cushion cut paste between pairs of narrow bead-ended pearcuts clasping final small round cut stones, length 3.2cm. The suite is presented in a 19th century red morocco shaped and fitted case
A certificated 1.76ct single stone diamond ring, the round brilliant cut diamond eight claw set to a plain coronet gallery and tapered shank of white precious metal stamped `18ct & Plat`, size M; together with a certificate from Anchor Cert, no. 20019636, dated 02 October 2014, stating that the weight of the diamond is 1.76cts, its colour is H, and clarity VS2, and its cut, symmetry and polish are all graded as Good
