A 9ct white gold ring, set with three circular cut rubies and with three pairs of circular cut diamonds mounted at intervals, a gold and platinum, diamond and colourless gem set five stone ring, in a crossover design and a 9ct gold ring, claw set with a row of three oval cut lilac coloured stones, between colourless gem set single stone shoulders.

A 19th century lignum vitae maul, by J Lowe, Watchmaker, wheel turned, the base set with an ebony boss depicting Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, 23cm high, c.1840. The object was clearly made by this unrecorded jeweller for this emergent municipality for the ceremonial laying of a foundation stone no doubt of a dissenting chapel or public building - conceivably by one or other of the Royal couple, or by a local dignitary to celebrate the Royal marriage of 10/2/1840. From the inset medallion, Victoria and Albert look young enough to be newly married. The object must date, therefore, to 1840 or a few years thereafter. The building involved might well have been the Independent Meeting House, Belgrave Square, Darwen, designed by Edward Walters and formally opened in 1847 [Pevsner, Sir N., Buildings of England series, Lancashire: the Rural North (Penguin, London, 1969) 113]
