Interior Design/Fossils: An extremely rare pair of positive negative prawn plaques, Solnhofen, Germany, Lower Jurassic, 38cm by 33cm Solnhofen Germany is one of the most famous and important fossil localities in the world, and it is from here that the celebrated Archaeopteryx (the first known bird) was found. The quarries around Solnhofen were originally mined for the beautiful lithographic slate they contained, and the process of lithography was invented using this stone. While digging, the quarrymen often came across the remains of a variety of different creatures perfectly preserved in the rock including small dinosaurs, crocodiles, pterosaurs, plants, sea urchins and fish.

A group of 19th century marble and stone architectural fragmentsComprising a large 19th century carved white marble lion’s paw, two 19th century white marble chimneypiece scrolls (one black painted), a 19th century alabaster lion after Canova (part of the tail lacking), 19th century Gothic corbel possibly in Coade stone and a stoneware corner stone with a grotesque mask, the marble foot 16cm high, 24cm deep. Scarce and fine 19th century Maori greenstone mere, elongated teardrop form with pierced moulded terminal, 34cm bearing label detailing provenance - ‘Collected by Jonathan Backhouse Hodgkin on a tour of New Zealand, about 1845’, by family descent from Jonathan Backhouse Hodgkin. NB: The Backhoiuse family were founders of Backhouse Bank of Darlington and supporters of the Stockton-Darlington railway. NB Should read Maori carved bassalt mere. We believe this is bassalt rather than green stone

Stamped 18ct and plat. Gross weight approximately 2.03 grams the other ring has three diamonds, one brilliant cut measuring approximately 2.7mm diameter, the other two are single cut diamonds measuring approximately 2mm. Estimated total diamond weight 0.13ct, one end diamond is chipped, clarity and colour for the remainder assessed as SI, I. Stamped 18ct. Gross weight approximately 1.59 grams both are worn and have wear commensurate with daily wear

Finger size R.Condition report: Good condition commensurate with age and wear. Wear to shank and under bezel. Old cut diamond; colour H/I, clarity VS1/VS2, measures approximately 4.97 x 4.70 x 3.25mm, estimated weight approximately 0.50cts, not hallmarked but stamped ‘18ct’.
