MITCHELL EDGAR: (1930- ) American Astronaut, Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo XIV (1971), the sixth man to walk on the moon. Signed colour 38.5 x 7.5 photograph, the panoramic image depicting the tiny figure of Mitchell walking on the moon's surface, with the lunar module prominent at the centre. Signed by Mitchell in bold silver ink to the image, adding Apollo 14 LMP in his hand beneath his signature. Mitchell has also identified various points and apparatus on the moon, annotating the image in his hand with the names of Cone Crater, Triplet Craters, Solar Wind Collector etc. Matted in a light stone colour and framed and glazed in a plain metallic frame to an overall size of 44 x 12.5. DUKE CHARLIE: (1935- ) American Astronaut, Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo XVI (1972), the tenth man to walk on the moon. Signed 39 x 7.5 photograph, the panoramic image featuring Duke standing in two places on the surface of the moon. Signed in bold silver ink to the image, adding Apollo 16 LMP in his hand beneath his signature. Duke has also identified various points on the moon, annotating the image in his hand with the names of Flag Crater, Plum Crater, Stone Mountain etc. Matted in a light stone colour and framed and glazed in a plain metallic frame to an overall size of 44 x 12.5. PRINCE PHILIP: (1921- ) Duke of Edinburgh, husband of Queen Elizabeth II. A.L.S., Philip, two pages, 8vo, Wood Farm, Sandringham, Norfolk, 28th December (1975), to Jean [Wills]. The Prince thanks his correspondent for 'the illustrated stone or painted pebble' and continues 'It was lovely seeing you at Christmas and I enjoyed our conversation - as usual!' He further writes 'All the best for 1976 - I simply refuse to believe that anything could ever match the gloom of '75! But I must admit that my optimism is burning rather low these days.' There are a number of reasons why Prince Philip could have considered 1975 as gloomy, but perhaps one of the most significant would have been the amount of IRA activity in England during the year, including several bombings and killings (Ross McWhirter one of them) and the Balcombe Street Siege in December 1975.
