A DIAMOND BRACELET FIRST HALF OF TWENTIETH CENTURY. Articulated sections of geometric design. Three sections each with a central peg set brilliant cut diamond estimated to weigh 0.65ct with an eight-cut diamond and baguette diamond border, each interspersed with single irregular hexagonal sections also set with eight-cut and baguette diamonds (total estimated weight for the balance of stones 9.25cts), one stone absent. A THREE STONE PINK SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND RING CIRCA 1940. Central claw set oval cut sapphire with a single claw set old cut diamonds on either side (each estimated to weigh 0.75cts). See illustration Shank tests as platinum . Sapphire of deep pink colour and loks amazingunder electric light. . Inclusions. Signs of heavy bruising. Each stone colour I/J, Vs clarity.
AN ATTRACTIVE THREE STONE DIAMOND RING CIRCA 1920. Claw set graduated stones estimated to weigh 0.70, 1.50 and 0.70ct respectively. Shank with carved shoulders and of an earlier date. See illustration Shank would test as 18ct gold and the claws as platinum. Stones H colour. CLARTIY: Centre Vs, one of side stones Si the other Vs. Centre with chipped girdle.

Magneticall Advertisements: Or, Divers Pertinent Observations, and Approved Experiments Concerning the Nature and Properties of the Load-Stone: Very Pleasant for Knowledge, and Most Needfull for Practise, of Travelling, or Framing of Instruments fit for Travellers both by Sea and Land, 1st ed., 1616, 80 pp. only (of 86 pp., lacking N1-4 & O1), woodcut headpieces and initials, illustrations, occasional light soiling, a few frayed foredges, previous owner signature to title, modern cloth, small 4to. STC 1442. Contains Barlow’s discovery of the directional properties of the compass-needle. The book’s publication was the subject of a dispute with Mark Ridley, who had published his own A Short Treatise of Magneticall Bodies and Motions in 1613. (1).
Stone (Reynolds, 1909-1979). A series of five autograph letters signed, ‘Reynolds Stone’, The Old Rectory, Litton Cheney, Dorchester, Dorset, 2nd June 1955, to 13th February 1956, all addressed to Bernard, plus one further letter to Helen, signed Reynolds S., all concerning a proposed exhibition, and all but the first written in brown ink, the last letter giving a list of three watercolours and fourteen engravings, ‘If I can’t come and fetch the exhibits at the end of their time (a month you said?) it might be possible that John Sparrow at All Souls would consent to house them temporarily. I hope the exhibits explain themselves. I am sorry if the ones relying on lettering are not of much interest to your common room users. But lettering and typography might be of some interest in itself and is useful in its application not least to scientists. The technique also of engraving might be interesting with its impartial treatment of symbol, pattern and illusion, or fictional suggestion’, two letters with a few spots and small smudges without loss of sense, one or 2 pp., oblong 8vo, the last letter 2 pp., 4to.
