A group of stone adze hand tools, three 19th century Papua New Guinea, each labelled New Guinea, collected before 1950, the longest of grey-white black speckled stone, 18.5cm, the thinnest of dark grey stone, 18cm and the last of dark green stone, 12cm, the other stone tools unlabelledCONDITION: Provenance - T. Gerrard & Co Ltd, Pentonville Road, preparators, technicians and modellers of London were involved, amongst other things, in biology, osteology and entomology. E. Gerrard & sons based in Camden, North London (opened the second premises above on Pentonville Road) was a firm of taxidermists and makers of anatomical models, and a dealer in artefacts who sold Pacific Islands collections to the British Museum and other museums. cf. a similar dark green stone adze in the British Museum accession no. A good Chinese spinach green jade rectangular snuff bottle, 18th/19th century, the sides carved in relief with a pair of lion mask ring handles, on a rectangular foot, the stone with emerald green and grey toning, with a jadeite mounted silver stopper and spoon, total height 6.8cmCONDITION: Natural inclusions to the stone, minute nicks to the edge of the rim and the foot, otherwise in good condition.
Ten assorted mainly Victorian gilt metal hardstone set brooches, including mourning brooch, 54mm, four other items and a 9ct mounted cameo shell brooch, 61mm, gross 17.7 grams.CONDITION: 9ct mounted cameo brooch in good order but there are a couple of minor knocks to the gold border.There are dents to the back of the mourning brooch with the plaited hair and the glass is quite scratched.Amethyst coloured stone set brooch has solder repairs to the back. Two of the three white agate oval brooches have a small chip to the stone and the setting is quite worn/bent. The other white agate with the seed pearl centre is in good order.The ceramic panel of the lady has a mottled surface??3 graces cameo has visible lead solder on the back. Shell in good order. Setting dented on the back. Engraved yellow metal oval locket has a hole on the back and there is an engraved monogram on the front. Back very thin.The orange agate with bloodstone centre has lead solder repairs on the back of the metal border mount.
