This figure study was painted from sittings at Buckingham Palace 1989-1991. The larger finished portrait was officially unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery and subsequently presented to Colchester Borough Council by the artist in February 1992. Diamond single stone ring with a brilliant cut diamond estimated to weigh approximately 1.10 carats, in eight claw setting on gold (18ct) shank. Ring size P CONDITION REPORT The diamond has a fissure/crack which touches the table surface and runs across the stone all the way to the girdle. This fissure/crack 'forks' on the surface near the middle of the stone. There are unusual flashes of purple and green and even a 'rainbow' effect which might indicate that the stone has been fracture-filled although I cannot locate the drill hole if this is the case. It is possible that the stone has been fracture filled with glass

No obvious draw of colour but does have a faint brown tone when held against a piece of white paper. It is a fairly 'lively' stone. The girdle is very thick. Setting in good condition. Shank is worn at the base. No hallmarks, possibly removed/lost during re-sizing
