JOXE DE ALBERDI (1922 - 2008 Basque) - Bacchus, resin casting mounted on polished stone base, 25.5cms high. Provenance: from the family. Born in Azkoitia in 1922 Alberdi began training in 1935 moving to the United Kingdom in 1937 to continue his apprenticeship at the Maidenhead School of Art. He also trained in Civil Engineering but returned to art and sculpture in 1945. He returned to Spain in 1972 settling in Alicante where he died in 2008. There is a museum of his work in Axkoitia.
A carved shell cameo brooch, the plaque depicting the Three Graces within a yellow metal mount of scrolling design, 7cms high; a 9ct. yellow gold floral pattern brooch, set with orange, purple and green stones, 4cms wide; a 9ct. yellow gold flower pattern brooch, the flowerhead centred with seed pearls surrounded by fancy heart-shaped cut garnets, 4cms high; a 19th Century costume brooch, set with purple, orange, green and white paste stones in flowerhead pattern mount, 2.5cms wide; a 19th Century costume brooch, the faceted 'amethyst' glass central stone surrounded by pearl bezel, 4cms wide; and an early 20th Century costume brooch, the 'citrine' glass stone mounted with central floral design, within a gilt metal claw mount set with turquoise stones, fitted gilt metal chain, 5cms wide. A single stone diamond ring, the old cut diamond weighing approximately 0.50 carats, in illusion setting, crown mount above chenier shoulders, on 18ct. yellow gold shank, ring size N; an 18ct. yellow gold wedding band, ring size O; and a 19th Century ring, the central square glass cabochon covering plaited hair within half pearl bezel, further tapering pearls to shoulder (one shoulder broken and missing), engraved to back "RS".
