GEORGE VI: (1895-1952) King of the United Kingdom 1936-52. An unusual, rare signed 6 x 8 photograph depicting King George VI in a full length pose, in uniform. The King is captured emerging from the entrance of a brick air raid shelter following a raid over the Royal Navy stone frigate HMS Collingwood. The original press photograph bears the blindstamp of Portsmouth & Sunderland Newspapers Ltd. Signed ('George R. I.') in bold black fountain pen ink to a light area at the base of the image and dated 1940 in his hand. Neatly mounted and glazed in the original frame to an overall size of 9 x 11.5. VG. The shore establishment of HMS Collingwood, at Fareham, was commissioned on 10th January 1940 and still exists as the lead establishment of the Maritime Warfare School and is the largest naval training organisation in Western Europe. King George VI was visiting on 25th July 1940 when he had to take shelter during an air raid.

WESTWOOD VIVIENNE: (1941- ) British Fashion Designer. Collection of seven A.Ls.S., Vivienne, each to the inside of her personal Christmas greetings cards, with different colour designs, n.p. (London), 1997-98 and largely undated, all to Dominic. Westwood apologises for not keeping in touch more and refers to her travels, invites her correspondent to various fashion shows in Milan and Paris, in one commenting on her latest collection, 'We really tried to make the fabrics look weathered by time & sea & we sent our evening dresses to the stone wash', sending him two small samples of fabric and original working copies of her dress designs ('This is on a girl called Alec Wek who is from Sudan & so black she's blue-flag carried by handsome white man called Jack'), also including a further five signed and inscribed Christmas greetings cards, compliment slip etc., and seven invitation cards to various shows.
