Rowling (J.K.) - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, proof copy for the forty-third printing, ink inscription to half-title, original pictorial wrappers, spine creased, light rubbing and creasing to extremities, 1997; and a copy of the forty-third printing as published, 8vo (2) A seemingly unique curiosity. When commissioned to design a wizard for the lower cover of The Philosopher's Stone , the artist Thomas Taylor had not yet read the book and used his father as a likeness, the resulting image bore no resemblence to any of the characters in the book and left many fans baffled. Taylor was subsequently commissioned to design a new wizard, this time based upon the description of Dumbeldore. This proof copy, printed on inferior paper and using cheaper inks was put together as a mock-up. A possibly unique and interesting piece of Rowlingiana, we have encountered no other copy.
