1st century BC. A style carved limestone male head with reserved features including scaphoid mouth and eyes, triangular nose, scrolled ears. 910 grams, 14cm (5 1/2"). Property of a West London gentleman; acquired between 1980-2010. Such stone heads were placed in recesses in tall stelai which were placed over the grave of the deceased and where offerings were made to the departed soul. Fine condition.
