A fine Indian ankus, all steel construction richly embellished with gold and silver koftgari, the haft of seven stage cage form interrupted by bands of koftgari and with captive jingles, extending to a square section head supporting a spear like point and a re-curving side hook all with foliate gold koftgari within silver borders, butt with a broad band of foliate gold koftgari, pommel with a swirling pattern in silver koftgari, late 18th or 19th Century, possibly Rajput, length 56cm (22 in.). French School circa 1800, signed "Piquet", depicting a girl with shoulder length hair wearing blue dress and yellow belt with lace bodice, watercolour on ivory, in silver frame with semiprecious stone mounts, tortoiseshell back with silver coloured coat of arms. 60 mm x 48 mm (see illustration).
A rare and highly unusual Chinese ivory carving early 19th century, the pierced and elaborately carved tusk depicting four octupi emerging from a rough, stylised sea, their tentacles reaching upwards over a rocky outcrop towards a group of six macaques, one macaque`s arm being stretched alarmingly downwards, decorated with silver pins and the octupi with inset stone eyes, mounted on a conforming carved hardwood base, depicting two octupi with outstretched tentacles, signed to lower section of carving and sides of base, 9.25in (23.5cm) high, old repaired crack.
