A good Art Deco emerald and diamond ring, the central square cut emerald weighing approx. 1.3cts within a platform of twenty-two diamonds in white metal, size S, approx. 4.3g.Purchased on 24th September 1937 from Edwin Pryor & Son, for £40 by the vendor's grandmother. Additional InformationThe head is approx. 17.6 x 11.8mm, the emerald has light surface abrasions as you would expect and also natural inclusions to the stone. The diamonds are facing up nicely and are well matched. No stones are missing. The setting itself is in good order and the ring is unmarked.

The diamonds are well matched but under a loupe you can clearly see inclusions and flaws. Some of the tips of the claws would require attention. The band is unmarked with light surface wear throughout.
An impressive white metal, sapphire and diamond five stone ring, the central oval sapphire weighing approx 1ct, flanked by twin diamonds each weighing approx 0.90ct with two further oval sapphires, each weighing approx 0.5ct, with eight tiny diamond chips to the elaborate scroll setting, unmarked, size L, approx 6.5g.Footnote: the sapphires have previously been assessed as being Burmese.Additional InformationThere are some abrasions to the raised parts of the sapphires, the diamonds are old cut and do have inclusions when examined under a loop but with the naked eye this is a very striking and impressive ring.

When considering the present work Jonathan Black notes, 'Nevinson acknowledged and celebrated the burst of building activity that London witnessed c.1920-26 in The Rising City. During the period, Adelaide House, just north of London Bridge and designed by Sir John Burnet, was completed in 1925 while Devonshire House on Piccadilly (1924-6) and Edwin Lutyens' Grosvenor House on Park Lane (1926-8) were under construction using the latest American-inspired techniques involving steel frames clad in stone, brick and concrete.' (Op. cit. p.56). Another example from the current edition is held at the Victorian and Albert Museum.Condition reportThe sheet has deckled edges; patches of staining to the extreme corners of the sheet border; two small pieces of mounting tape to upper left and right sheet border.
