The lids are usually loosely fitted and when their discovery is recorded the lids are frequently placed upside down into the vessel. As these urns are frequently found in covered stone cylinder containers the inverted lid could simply be a means to fit them inside. Many examples of this type of cinerary urn were found in a Roman cemetery in Zadar, Croatia, dated from the middle to the second half of the 1st Century A.D., see Anamarija Eterović Borzić and Berislav Štefanac, Ancient Glass. Catalogue of the Permanent Exhibition of the Museum of Ancient Glass in Zadar (Zadar 2021), pp. 212-27, nos 727-57 (including lids).
