A group of WWI Belgian military medals, to include Croix de Guerre and Croix du Combatant, Victory medal, Grand Guerre war medal, and two civilian medals, together with a photograph of the recipient, and further medal or jewel, white metal wreath with purple enamels, cabochon red stone and diamond on purple ribbon, also an unrelated Venerable Order of St John badge and sterling silver ring, etc
A rare Henry VIII stone armorial depicting the Tudor Royal Arms of England, complete with the lion and griffin or dragon supports and the motto of the order of the Garter, 168 x 180cm approximately. This important Tudor discovery was made in a cottage in the village of Hanwell, north of Banbury, where it was hidden in the walls of the cottage presumably for preservation, possibly during the Civil War. It is a truly fascinating antiquity believed to have been housed at Hanwell Castle and probably commissioned by William Cope's son to adorn an overmantel or as a sign of commitment to Henry VIII and Katherine Parr on a visit to Hanwell Castle. The armorial is carved in very fine grained clunch (chalk) stone, possibly from Lincolnshire.
