Approx 450 Pages. The opening page illustrated Guru Nanak^ the last page has a 19th century watercolour painting of Guru Nanak Ji. The Janamsakhis^ literally birth stories^ are writings which profess to be biographies of the first Sikh Guru These compositions have been written at various stages after the death of the first guru.

A jade boulder Carving, second half of the 19th century, the irregular white-flecked, pale grey-green stone carved with a horse beneath a willow, the reverse with lingzhi, small chip at the base, 10.5cm, wood stand (2) CONDITION REPORT: A 1cm long chip to rear left of base. Small knock to far left pinnacle.
A jade Libation Cup, 20th century, the deep vessel well carved as a mallow flower supported on interlocked stems and with leaves and buds, the stone of pale green, 9cm, fitted wood stand and box (3) CONDITION REPORT: A small chip to left hand side exterior rim. Small section missing from stand.
A smokey-quartz Libation Cup, 20th century, carved as a peach, the handle as a stem with four leaves and a further fruit, the almost clear stone with a minute cloudy-brown inclusion, 9cm, fitted wood stand (2) CONDITION REPORT: Small tiny crack to rim of cup to left of handle, otherwise no obvious faults.
A rose quartz Vase and Cover, 1950s, the shield-shaped body with high relief peony and leaves, the pink stone suffused with white, minor chips, 12.5cm, fitted wood stand, box CONDITION REPORT: A small chip to right hand side top rose leaf. Natural striations and flaws. Small chips to lid knop and one small part missing.
An attractive double-sided jadeite Pendant, 20th century, one side with carp leaping through a lily pond, the reverse with a bamboo growing lingzhi, a leaf and a bat, all against a thunder diaper ground, the stone of pale purplish grey streaked with bright emerald, 10cm CONDITION REPORT: No obvious faults.
VARIOUS MATERIALS A good jade uncut Seal, 18th/19th century, in the form of a walking turtle, its carapace engraved and almost simulating the Eight Changes, the stone attractively multi-coloured, pierced for suspension, 3cm, and a soapstone Seal, c.1900, as a turtle, its dragon head turned back, the stone of mottled black and brown, 3.1cm (2) CONDITION REPORT: One chip to foot of base, some small nicks to side of base on looking back turtle. The other turtle with no obvious faults. Provenance: as per catalogue.
Three Seals, two jade and possibly 18th century, the other soapstone, each in the form of a turtle pierced for suspension, 2.1 to 3cm (3) The middle seal reads: zisun bao zhi (for the inheritance of Sons and Grandsons). CONDITION REPORT: Small fish with small nicks to side. Turtle, some small nicks to side and edges of base. Jade stone with no obvious faults. Provenance: as per catalogue.
Other Scholars' Objects A good Jadeite Finger Ring, 19th century, the stone of flocculated pale green and suffused on one side a brilliant emerald and carved with a shou amongst clouds, 2.5 x 3cm For similar, but plain, jadite ring see: Later Chinese Jades, Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, 2007, no. 21, where it is pointed out that the form is based on Neolithic originals worn by archers to protect their fingers from bow strings, hence the current term. However, when copies were made during the Qing, they were worn by noblemen for display. CONDITION REPORT: No obvious faults. Provenance: as per catalogue.
A Jade Dragon Pendant, 20th century, the stylised beast in a pale grey-green stone, carved with 'S' scrolls and with pierced mouth, 8.5cm These dragon pendants were first carved and worn during Neolithic times and unearthed at various periods such as the Song and Qing, when they were admired, copied and altered. This lot, and the following, differ from antiquity as they lack drilled suspension holes. CONDITION REPORT: No obvious faults. Provenance: as per catalogue.

An unusual Jade Pendant, 20th century, the pale-green stone with a thin, brown encrustation on one side of the curled dragon, its body and tail forming a complete circle, the details well-engraved and the whole based on an original from the Neolithic Hongshan culture, 7.1cm CONDITION REPORT: No obvious faults. An unusual jade Pendant, of indeterminate date, in the form of a qin wrapped in cloth and tied by a ribbon, the exposed end with key-fret, the stone of mottled pink and purple and curiously phallic in evocation, 9cm The qin is a seven-stringed musical instrument most nearly related to the zither or lute and very difficult to play. Managing it was one of the Four Scholarly Pursuits to be attained by the literati. CONDITION REPORT: Centre left there is a small rough mark on the band. Provenance: as per catalogue.
A pair of Chinese white jade Belt Ornaments, Qianlong (1736-1795), each in the form of a two-handled vase on an openwork stand, the centre of each vase carved with a flowering prunus branch within a recessed panel beneath a band of leaves on the neck, the stone of even white colour, 6.5cm (2) CONDITION REPORT: One with fine hairline to top. Some inclusions/fracture marks.

A complex grey-green stone Carving, modern, in the form of an archaic vase and cover with dragon head handles and knop, supported on the back of two further dragons, loose ring handles, tiny chips, 20cm, wood stand (3) CONDITION REPORT: The Kylin lid has been restored and glued, both handles to lid missing. Chip to both right hand side dragon mouth's. The upper dragon missing a link beneath its mouth. Ring to lower dragon restored. Left hand side dragon lower link has been broken and glued. Right and side dragon far left claw missing. Underside has chips to both dragons rear feet. Upper right hand dragon has small section missing from ear.
