The Conyngham Cup was inaugurated in 1854, and historically was one of the highlights of the racing season at Punchestown. John Sturgess was known as a hunting and racing lithographer. He worked largely for The Illustrated London News between 1875 and 1885, and exhibited in London at the Royal Society of British Artists and at The Royal Hibernian Society.
A Danish unmarked silver ruby marriage box, hinged lid and base with bright-cut swag decoration, height 10cm, 2.5ozVery good overall condition, box has join marks up both sides, all stones present, one shoulder stone has quite a large chip, no obvious damage, lightly surface scratched all over, unmarked.
