HEROES OF THE FLAMESOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Fine on Linen Universal, 1931The stunning stone litho one sheet offered here from the series' penultimate chapter, bringing the heat with its bold colors and dynamic design, features McCoy performing a heroic and dangerous rescue, a rare piece that shows him in action as something other than a cowboy. Prior to restoration, this poster had previous issues including fold and cross-fold wear, chipping, and pinholes in the corners. There have also been sporadic touch-ups to the backgrounds, plus some airbrushing including to the lower part of the dress around the center point cross fold, and the borders have been airbrushed. The poster now presents splendidly.Heroes of the Flames (1931), a serial starring Tim McCoy, best known for his cowboy roles, is Bob Darrow, the inventor of a new kind of chemical fire extinguisher, who must protect himself and his invention from the depredations of the evil Don Mitchell (Gayne Whitman), who wants not only Darrow's formula but his girlfriend, June Madison (Marion Shockley), as well. Unsurprisingly, many of the cliffhangers in this serial involve major characters trapped in burning buildings, requiring the heroic efforts of local firefighters to rescue them. Though lost for decades, a single print of this film was recently discovered and subsequently preserved by Universal. It's notable for McCoy's performance and early appearances by future Western stars Andy Devine, Walter Brennan, and Bruce Cabot. McCoy was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 and passed in 1978, leaving behind a legacy as one of the great Western stars of the silver screen. Lot 158

JOSEF JERABEK PRAGUE SMOKED GOODS FACTORY AND HAM EXPORTCzech Advertising Poster (17.75" x 24")Fine Rolled c.1910A unique and detailed advertising poster from 1910, this original vintage Czech poster was for Josof Jerbek Prague Smoked Goods Factory & Ham Export. The poster has some wear, mostly in the borders, including sporadic and scattered light crimping and creasing, staining, discoloration, some surface paper loss, tiny tears, and a pinhole in the upper border. Plus, there have been light touchups to the lower border, one going slightly into the credits. And while there are a few light horizontal creases in the image itself, this piece presents very clean and bright.Although there's little to no documentation available regarding the Josef Jerabek company promoted here, it was, apparently, an important and well-established institution as a smoked goods factory and ham exporter, as the statement "Kaiserl., Konigl., Hoflieferant" ("Imperial, Regal, Purveyor to the Court") indicates. Regardless of its background, the 1910 Czech stone litho poster offered here is a marvel of turn-of-the-century design, with an image of a "modern" airship (similar in appearance to the Italian military aircraft that would be used as bombers to fight World War I) flying high over the factory. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.

Lot 161

KING KONGFrench Grande, Full-Bleed (46" x 63"); Style AVery Fine+ on Linen; Artist Roland Coudon RKO, 1933This is one of two styles produced for the first release of this horror classic in France. The other style was a more stylized depiction of the giant ape on the Empire State Building. Artist Roland Coudon created this stone litho image that is arguably the best from this classic title -- King Kong, illuminated by the glow of native torches, as he gazes upon the lovely Fay Wray. Previously folded, this poster is in exceptional condition. There is no paper missing and the colors are bright.A film of profound importance in the annals of moviemaking, RKO Studio knew they had a huge hit on their hands when Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack turned in this legendary fantasy full of dinosaurs and adventure. Not only did they create a tragic version of the "Beauty and the Beast" narrative that has continued to captivate audiences for generations, but they did so by combining numerous technical innovations with awe-inspiring effects. Chief among these was the work of stop-motion animator Willis O'Brien, whose efforts on such projects as The Lost World brought him to the attention of Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack. It was truly O'Brien's skilled treatment of Kong and Skull Island's dinosaurs that breathed life into the film, keeping audiences' suspension of disbelief in check and thus raising the status of the picture to a true classic. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Lot 163

KING KONGNumbered Limited Edition Reproduction Three Sheet. (42" x 82.5"); Style AVery Fine; Artist S2 Art S2 Art Group, 1997Offered is a reproduction of the style A three sheet for King Kong printed using a historical stone lithographic process on antique 19th century presses. The poster comes in 3 panels, as originally printed. The bottom panel is numbered and signed by chromist David Copson. One of the most popular and groundbreaking fantasy-horror films ever made, King Kong featured state-of-the-art stop-motion animation created by Willis O'Brien, which set the standard for decades of imitators. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. Lot 174

LIFEBOATOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Fine+ on Linen 20th Century Fox, 1944Posters for acclaimed director Alfred Hitchcock are becoming more scarce, and this is an early one from his American career. This excellent stone litho poster gives us a glimpse of most of the cast, including Tallulah Bankhead, William Bendix, Walter Slezak, Mary Anderson, Henry Hull, Heather Angel, John Hodiak, and more. This poster on linen has had some touch-ups to fix previous issues, including wear, light separation, and some paper loss to the fold lines and cross folds. There have also been sporadic touch-ups to other areas, including the four corners, but the images themselves are very presentable.Although Lifeboat was based on John Steinbeck's novel, the author chose to disassociate himself from the film because of its treatment of his material. Nevertheless, the picture is one of Alfred Hitchcock's most innovative films, which takes place almost entirely on a small lifeboat that carries the survivors of a torpedoed freighter during WWII.This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.

Lot 188

MELODY CRUISEOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Very Fine on Linen RKO, 1933The first feature film from director Mark Sandrich, the movie is represented here by a gorgeous, art deco design stone litho one sheet on linen that perfectly captures the glitz and the glamor of both this delightful film and the era from which it hails. With only minor sporadic touchups to center point cross folds and two spots of minor airbrushing in the lower border, this stone litho poster remains in immaculate condition. In this racy Pre-Code comedy, two friends board a cruise from New York to California through the Panama Canal. Not surprisingly, the bevy of eligible - and beautiful - women on board instantly set their sights on the two playboys, causing all kinds of risque hijinks on the high seas. Double entendres abound in a film that couldn't have existed only a year later, as the enforcement of the Production Code virtually eliminated this type of sly sex farce from the screen. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.

Lot 195

MYSTERIOUS MR. MOTOOne-Sheet (27" x 41"); Stone LithoVery Fine- on Linen 20th Century Fox, 1938Peter Lorre starred in this famous series, which many agree was an attempt to capitalize on the Charlie Chan series. This stunning stone litho one-sheet is the most striking of any Moto posters.Linen backing and airbrushing have fixed the very few minor issues with this brightly colored poster, including some previous fold wear in the upper half of the poster, tiny center point flecks were touched up, and minor wear and scuffing in the title "Lorre" with slight imperfections smoothed out.The fifth movie in a series of eight crime-mystery films is centered around the character of Mr. Moto, a Japanese secret agent portrayed by Peter Lorre. The film was created by John P. Marquand. In this particular adventure, the ingenious Mr. Moto deliberately lands himself on Devil's Island in order to prevent an international assassination plot from being executed. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.

Lot 209

THE PALM BEACH GIRLOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Fine+ on Linen Paramount, 1926This gorgeous stone litho poster features a striking image of Bebe Daniels from the heyday of her stardom. This poster on linen has had restoration to previous issues, including corner chipping and pinholes, plus fold line wear. There have been light, sporadic touch-ups, especially on the three horizontal folds, and all the borders have been airbrushed. The Palm Beach Girl is a silent romantic comedy movie based on a short-lived Broadway play titled "Please Help Emily". It stars the famous Bebe Daniels, who was already a major star during that time. The movie tells the story of social classes. Sadly, the film is considered lost as there are no surviving prints found in any archives. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.

Lot 239

THE SEA BEAST24 Sheet (246" x 108")Fine+ Folded Warner Bros., 1926A vibrant poster in 12 panels and a gorgeous stone litho printing. This magnificent portrait of a young John Barrymore in a vehicle received high praise when it was released and became the top-grossing film among all of Warner Bros.'s 1926 productions. The poster indicates use, such as edge and fold wear, fold separations, creases, and tears. Also present are mostly small chips, noticeable surface rippling, and staining. All of the stone litho billboard-sized posters are included, and all are wonderfully bright in color; an impressive piece.Actor John Barrymore had always wanted to star in a film adaptation of Herman Melville's classic sea-faring novel Moby Dick, and in 1926, he got his wish… sort of. Instead of Melville's tragic tale of obsession and monomania, The Sea Beast, the very first screen adaptation of Moby Dick, is a loosely adapted romance, one that takes great liberties with the famous text and provides a happy ending for Captain Ahab Creeley (Barrymore) and the love of his life, Esther (Dolore Costello), who is reunited with a hale and hearty Ahab at the end of the picture. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.

Lot 243

SHADOWSOne-Sheet (27" x 41"); Style AFine+ Folded Preferred Pictures, 1922This gorgeous style A stone litho not only features Lon Chaney in a role that contributed to his being labeled as "The Man of a Thousand Faces."Unrestored, this outstanding style A stone litho one sheet is likely the only surviving one sheet from this movie. The poster has light edge and fold wear, a few micro-tears and chips in the borders, slight fold separation, and thin dust shadows. There are a few strips of archival tape on the verso.Lon Chaney demonstrates his remarkable skill with character makeup in this film, in which he transforms himself into a humble, stoop-shouldered Chinese laundryman named Yen Sin. This was his most elaborate make-up to date - taking more than two hours to apply - one that would only be surpassed in the next year when he created the look of Quasimodo, the deformed bellringer in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923). The film opened to rave reviews by critics, who hailed it as Chaney's best performance of his career. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.

Lot 28

THE BITTER TEA OF GENERAL YENPre-War Belgian (23.5" x 30.5")Very Fine on Linen Gaumont/ Columbia, 1931Here is a striking pre-war Belgian poster on linen, featuring a lush image of Asther and Stanwyck under the French title La Grande Muraille (The Great Wall). Paper on this title is extremely scarce.A beautiful and rare Pre-War Belgian image, the poster was previously folded in quarters and shows little fold wear. There were a few small chips from the borders but is otherwise in wonderful condition. In this controversial Pre-Code drama directed by Frank Capra and based on the book by Grace Zaring Stone, superstar Barbara Stanwyck plays Megan Davis, a missionary in China who inadvertently gets caught up in the Chinese Civil War and finds herself at the mercy of General Yen (Nils Asther in yellow-face), a local warlord who soon falls in love with her. The film is also notable as being one of the first to deal with the subject of interracial sexual attraction, a focus that contributed to its initial poor box office showing (making it one of Capra's rare commercial failures). In recent years, however, the film has undergone a critical reappraisal, gaining a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest and most daring films of the era. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.

Lot 31

BLONDIE OF THE FOLLIESOne-Sheet (27" x 41"); Style D, Stone LithoVery Fine- on Linen MGM, 1932Posters for this title are known to be very scarce and, when found, are kept in collections. MGM was known to produce predominantly white posters, meaning images on white backgrounds. This excellent stone litho, an art deco image, is magnificent and full of color. While there is restoration to the upper part in the white border and blue area, there is still some evident wrinkling and creasing in the center upper area. Otherwise, there has yet to be any touch-up work to the interior artwork, leaving this linen-backed poster displaying very well.Marion Davies and Billie Dove star in this musical comedy, which is about two best friends whose relationship is tested when one of them (Dove) becomes a star of a burlesque show. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Lot 311

UNION DEPOTOne Sheet (27.25" x 40.75")Very Fine- on Linen First National, 1932This lovely example displays all of the cast on the poster, including the young Douglas Fairbanks, Jr and Joan Blondell in full color above the title. This is the first time we've seen another copy of this poster in auction, and believe it may be unique. The poster shows some wear to the lower vertical fold with a small amount of chipping. There is a slight amount of silverfish nibbling in the upper left corner. The studio-applied rubber stamp is slightly bleed-through in the lower left side border. This stone litho one sheet has beautiful colors and displays magnificently. This delightful Pre-Code classic stars Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. as Chic Miller, a drifter recently released from jail on a vagrancy charge, and Joan Blondell as Ruth Collins, an out-of-work chorus girl who will do anything for the price of a train ticket to St. Louis. The elaborate train station set in which much of the action takes place was enormously expensive to build but became a lasting legacy, as it would be seen in many of Warner's pictures for years to come. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.

Lot 33

'BLUE BLAZES' RAWDENOne-Sheet (28" x 41"); Tim Matheson CollectionVery Fine on Linen Artcraft Pictures Corp., 1918There were two styles of one sheets to this Western film and this style we've not seen before. A wonderful image of the early Hollywood star in a beautiful stone litho image. The poster had tiny tears on the border. There have been sporadic airbrushing to the borders and slight touchups to fold wear and a small horizontal tear just under the upper border. The poster now presents well and displays beautifully.William S. Hart's success story is rare even today, just as it was back then. In 1907, he left his successful career as a Broadway Shakespearean actor to venture into the unknown potential of the silver screen, appearing as Messala in the first cinematic version of Ben Hur. It wasn't until seven years later, with his leading role in The Bargain, that he gained instant popularity and became one of Hollywood's first big stars at the age of fifty. Hart's focus on historical accuracy, true stories of real-life pioneers, and a gritty morality made his Westerns extremely popular at the box office until newer stars like Tom Mix introduced fast-paced, flashier shows. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.

He travels with the band Stillwater during one of their tours. The plot is based on the real-life experiences of writer-director Cameron Crowe, who wrote for the magazine as a teenager. The film features Patrick Fugit, Billy Crudup, Frances McDormand, and Kate Hudson in lead roles. Additionally, the legendary singer/guitarist Peter Frampton served as a technical consultant for the movie. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. Lot 35

THE BOWERYOne-Sheet (27" x 40.5")Fine+ on Linen United Artists, 1933Offered here is the bright and colorful stone litho one-sheet on linen featuring a dynamic image of Beery against a bright orange background. Professional conservation has fixed previous issues on this Stone Litho poster, including fold wear, separation, tiny tears, and chipping and light staining in the borders. There have been sporadic touchups and both the borders and Beery's colored outline have been airbrushed, but the poster now presents nicely. This movie was released as part of a series of "Gay '90s" films, following the success of Mae West's steamy film She Done Him Wrong (1933). The story follows two rivals, Chuck Connors (played by Wallace Beery) and Steve Brodie (played by George Raft), whose competition reaches its peak when Brodie decides to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge to get the money he needs to open a saloon bigger than Connors'. This film also marks Lucille Ball's first appearance on screen, but her role is uncredited. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. Lot 396

DON DARE-DEVILOne-Sheet (27" x 41")Fine+ Folded Universal, 1925This killer stone litho one sheet features a heroic and resolute Hoxie as Jack Bannister, protecting the lovely Ynez Remado (Cathleen Calhoun) from the villainous Bud Latham (Duke R. Lee) in a tense standoff. This folded poster has edge wear with small edge tears and chipping. There is also light fold wear with separation on the three center point cross folds. Jack Hoxie (1885-1965) was a major Western star of the silent era. Unlike many of his contemporaries, however, Hoxie was a real cowboy, rodeo competitor, and ranch hand, having honed these skills during his formative years in Northern Idaho. His first leading role came in 1919 as the title character in Lightning Bryce, a 15-episode serial from Arrow Film Corp. His fame grew tremendously during the 1920s when he became a well-known and well-beloved star, as big as any of his Western contemporaries. As one of the pioneers of the Western genre in film, Hoxie's contributions to the medium cannot be ignored. It was Hoxie who helped shape the image of the upright, white-hatted working cowboy hero, and his influence can be seen in such later stars as Randolph Scott and John Wayne, the inheritors of his mantle. This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. CALL HER SAVAGEOne-Sheet (27" x 42")Very Fine- on Linen Fox, 1932The beautiful Pre-Code stone litho one sheet on linen offered here pictures, Bow in all her red-headed glory, a marvelous image of a legendary actress. This is an extremely rare alternate style poster, one far lovelier and more striking than the one sheet more commonly available. It is, therefore, a highly desirable piece celebrating the career of this iconic actress, the ultimate Jazz Age flapper. This poster has been restored to fix previous issues, including tears and fold wear. There have been touchups to cross-fold center points and to sporadic tears, especially in the lower border. The image is clean, and the poster presents well.Clara Bow, known as the "It" girl of the silent era, was a top actress during the 1920s. She was the first female cinema sex symbol and represented the lively Jazz Age. Bow was one of the few Hollywood stars who successfully transitioned from silent to sound films. However, her talking career was short-lived due to the pressures of working with the new technology, and the increasing number of scandals associated with her, both real and imagined. This film was her second-to-last picture, marking the end of an era and a legendary career. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th.
